Thunderbird may have a 'Move' option but the IMAP protocol does not.
'Moving' a message translates to a COPY followed by an EXPUNGE.

True; but if the server supports UIDPLUS (allowing individual messages  
to be expunged) vs. expunging the entire folder (or not expunging at  
all) - and - the client supports that extensions... then move  
behaves more consistently.  I have no idea if TB supports / uses  
UIDPLUS per-message-expunge.
