Gnus threads too many articles together

2023-10-24 Thread John Haman
Everyday I get an email from my bank saying what my account balance is. These
are all different emails, but Gnus puts them all in one thread, I think because
they have the same subject. If I go into my bank group and insert old articles,
I get

O Jan 24, 2023 Alliant Alerts 0 Account Balance Notification
O Jan 24, 2023 Alliant Alerts 0 ╰─►
O Jan 25, 2023 Alliant Alerts 0 ╰─►
O Jan 27, 2023 Alliant Alerts 0 ╰─►
O Jan 30, 2023 Alliant Alerts 0 ╰─►
O Jan 31, 2023 Alliant Alerts 0 ╰─►

I don't know the most informative way to ask this question, but is there a way
to make Gnus just thread distinct conversations together (like Outlook.)

I'd like to not disable threads entirely.

Great! Yeah, a backup is never a bad idea :-)

  Best regards,

Adam

Thanks, Adam.

I wasn't aware of "nntp-address", although I've been using
"nnimap-address" in a similar context.

My goal is to retain the name "gmane" for historical consistency,
regardless of the actual address used. Your suggestion aligns with
that. I've since updated my configuration to:

  (nntp "gmane"
(nntp-address "news.gmane.io"))

Additionally, I've made updates to the ~/.newsrc.eld file, replacing
"news.gwene.org" with "gmane". Everything seems to be running smoothly
so far, and I've made sure to keep a backup, just in case.

I tried with a random message that I ticked for this test. It was found
only when it was ticked.

Anyway, with gnus-search-use-parsed-queries switched on, the search
query mark:flagged works when mark:flag doesn't. That is not what the
search queries documentation states.

Interesting. Adding this to my config (years ago) fixed the problem I
was having that, IIRC, was essentially the same as what you are seeing.
Oh well, complex systems...
