Not sure if that silences the compiler though. Last I recall having to
do

int ignored = fscanf();
(void) ignored;

and then you get compiler warnings about set-but-not-used variables!

#define ignore(x) if ((x)) {} else {}
#define ignore(x) ((x) ?: 0)
