[Internetradio] "Marketplace" and BBCWS "Business Daily" collaborate today
Today's editions of the American Public Media "Marketplace" business program and the BBCWS week-daily "Business Daily" program are being jointly produced and presented...I haven't had a listen yet but will be doing so on the way home. Interestingly, it's not just "the BBC", it's prominently "the BBC World Service"... Meanwhile, the "Business Daily" version is extended today to a half hour...it appears that each program put its own "wrapper" around jointly prepared content. Both programs are available on-demand. http://www.marketplace.org and http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p002vsxs (the Business Daily microsote). [Internetradio] interesting BBC WS website development
I haven't visited the main World Service website in a few weeks...interesting to see there are now three live streams showing on the main web page - "World Service Radio", "World Service News", and "World Service for Africa". The only program schedule I could easily find was for the main "World Service Radio". World Service for Africa stream is identical to the West and Central Africa schedule sheet available for PDF download on the WS site. Thanks for explaining Rich. I tuned in late and was wondering what was going on with the alternating announcers. It really wound up being an edition of "Business Daily" that Marketplace aired...using the usual Business Daily music etc. after Marketplace's opening sequence...or so it seemed. Re: [Internetradio] "Marketplace" and BBCWS "Business Daily" collaborate today
Somewhat off topic but couldn't resist. BBC America cable TV channel and PBS TV stations are carrying a segment celebrating the 75th anniversary of BBC's first "high definition," regularly-scheduled telecast originated by BBC World News. They showed a plaque on the wall of Alexandra Palace saying it was the first "high definition" telecast. In 1936 "high definition" was 405 lines and much better than the Baird electromechanical system previously used experimentally. Interviews with folks who worked there highlighted the folly of putting the transmitter and antenna on the same building where the TV RF got into the studio equipment. People in the lunch room were reported to be drawing sparks between the knives and forks. The reporter explained the decision to co-locate studio and transmitter that the palace was already 200 feet above surrounding terrain, shortening the tower by that amount. Hitler interrupted British TV in 1939.
