[IRCA] Carrier on 693 at 0845
I was getting a carrier on 693 at 0845z just now. Is this Japan? Is it too late for Azores? I am recording right now or else I would go back to see if there is any audio. I think there are slight traces on 747 and 774. I need to get a west directional antenna up. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Carrier on 693 at 0845
Patrick, It is certainly possible, but this will remain a mystery; I went back over the recording and there was just too much slop and the signal on 693 was just barely over the noise floor. Whatever it was, it has faded out. It looks like this is something to chase later. What is sunrise in the Azores anyway? Re: [IRCA] Talk on 890 AM?
Tim beat me to it. If it is Christian talk it must be KLFF, although that's a very long distance for a 5 KW non-directional diplexed (off KXTK-1280) electrically very short tower. However nothing else seems likely. They have a CP to increase to 12 KW non-directional daytime but the FCC web site doesn't show a license to cover so they're probably still at 5 KW. That site will be triplexed at some point in the future. There's a CP for 1060 to use the existing towers and add one more. Triplexing is unusual but a little over a mile away I have three stations (KZSB-1290, KCLU-1340 and KIST-1490) using a single (KIST's) tower. Honolulu has a couple of triplexed sites. 73 - Original Message - Date: Fri, 7 Nov 2008 19:49:21 -0600 From: Paul B. Walker, Jr. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [IRCA] Talk on 890 AM? [IRCA] TPs on Orcas Nov 8: Mediocre Minus
There haven't been many poor mornings this Fall, so I can't complain too much It was just POR. Only the strongest regulars were there, almost exclusively on the Low Band. Most were stronger an hour before dawn that at dawn enhancement. The only ones above language-recognition level were JJs: 567 early, 747+774+828 all at 8s early and 945 CNR1 at 8 late. There were about a dozen other low banders, at 6s or 7s. There was noting TP of particular interest. I continue to note KJNO, Juneau on 630 with Fox Sports over-running the Seattle religious blaster. This morning, I decided to check a few other Alaskan frequencies and got 670-KDLG//890-KBBI running BBC overnight with a soccer game between Manchester United and someone... that was a real audience grabber in Alaska, I'll bet. I also found 750-KFQD, 580-KRSA, 800-KINY and 930-KTKN. I suspect that most of them are usually in at dawn, thanks to the directional characteristics of the Wellbrook array... and the fact that I look right up the coast at southeastern Alaska. [IRCA] KNBR silent period
This morning I woke up a little after 4, and turned the radio on to find KNBR off. I had about an hour to sit with this and get some loggings... mostly I heard soft jazz instrumentals with occasional Ciento Siete voiceovers between songs, no spots of any kind. About 10 minutes before the hour another signal rose up with Tina Turner, heard Grupo ACIR, and someone doing the Mexican NA behind it. A little past the top of the hour, I heard a clear X-E Oro ID, with detailed station information. KNBR came back on about 5:20 PST. I did some checking online and I am guessing that I heard the following: Ciento Siete is likely XECHG, Chilpancingo, Gro. as Fred Cantu shows this station to have a 107.1 // but he shows the ID as Ke-Buena. Never heard any Ke-Buena. Grupo ACIR is probably XESON, Hermosillo, Son. That's based on looking through the ACIR website. X-E Oro is XEORO, Guasave Sin. I hear lots of Sinaloa stations here so that would be a most likely logging anyway. This is the first time I heard anything IDable from California or Nevada on 680 since I started DXing in 1970. I am very pleased with this!! I will send you a proper submission, Patrick. Re: [IRCA] Talk on 890 AM?
Was it during the day or at night? Travis AFB in Fairfield recently started broadcasting a TIS-HAR type station geared to the servicepeople stationed there. I just sent a log in to Nancy's column about it. If he heard any mentions of David Grant Medical Center, or Golden Bear Radio, that's what he heard. Audio quality is at telephone level. They originally gave calls KIRB in a tape loop, but do not find it in any FCC databases. Severe interference from KDXU/KLFF, etc at night, and I'm probably less than 10 miles from the base. During the day the signal carries to Sacramento on my car radio, but mixing products take over once I'm downtown.. Rich Toebe Vacaville CA - Original Message - From: Paul B. [IRCA] Afternoon activity
Hi,Between 1500 and 1600 PST (when I have time to scan with barefoot 60s era AM FM portable) all the 50krs drop in with night time signals from places like S.F.on 810,Reno 780,Sacr 1530,Eug,OR 1120,Port 1190,SLC 1160,Cal AB 1010,Sask 540,etc.Also,a 980 is cutting into CKNW Van BC but is not stable enough for ID with Van at zero signal, and is still there after dark(A Station not powering down?).How can these signals be so strong at 3PM and earlier? Is sun angle low enough for E layer to disappear ? With conditions this good in early November it should be possible to hear these guys all day in December with the sun even lower.Bill in Vic BC. __ Looking for the perfect gift? Re: [IRCA] KNBR silent period
AARGH! A couple years ago, I got word of a silent period for both KNBR and KTCT and announced it here. The East Helena MT test on 580 got re-arranged to that date because of the silent period. I wish I would have known about this one...I can't get Las Vegas/670 from here since I can see KNBR's stick from my home. Don, Curtis lives way across town from me, in the southwest corner near the Medical Facility with all those metal wires strung out in straight lines... he must have better reception as a result. :-) Let me know if you can hear the Travis AFB station on 890. During the day it should be possible, especially if you hear the TIS on 790 from Pittsburg. Rich Toebe Vacaville CA - Original Message - From: Donald K. Yep. Even if I had went to bed, the silent sound of a spammer coming to the forum that I moderate calls to me. I get up, add their web sites to a blocklist that is used by several hundred thousand people, ban them and go back to bed. Always check email though just in case a WheresGeorge bill gets logged in somewhere. This time of year the D Layer is never very intensely ionized. As a result, the likes of 810 KGO is audible 24 hours a day. The same applies to many other clears. [IRCA] IRCA 55 35 7 TAs
Hi Jim Renfrew,In your log of TAs I assume that 747 R5 is Radio 5 in Hilversum Holland with 200KW night power and two towers so high they are visible for more than 20 Km in the flatlands east of Amsterdam.I don't know if R5 has one of the towers or both and is sharing them with the 1008 station also with studios in Hilversum.Bill in Vic Bc __ Looking for the perfect gift?
