[IRCA] GX94/CJGX-AM 940 Yorkton, Saskatchewan

2009-03-03 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
At 1:52 AM Central on Tuesday March 3rd, 2009 I was spinning the AM Dial and
coming out of a commercial break and PSA stopset, I heard references The
Saturday night country show at 7pm on GX 94 in a station promo and then it
was into music.

This is CJGX 940 Yorkton, Saskatchewan!

The signal was steady, but buried way in the mud fighting with KPSZ 940 Des
Moines with lots of fades up and down.

I saw two FM Talking House transmitters at a Goodwill, last Fall for $6

Bert - suggestion, ask local realtors if they have a spare to loan the

can maybe get some marketing benefit from the trade.

I wonder if this is a good deal. I was considering buying this for
my school and having it in addition to the amateur radio setup I'm about
to install. Any thoughts?
THE TALKING HOUSE TRANSMITTER was originally manufactured for
real estate agents and home owners who wanted to broadcast a recorded
message advertising a house for sale. This transmitter is placed inside
the home and it transmits messages and announcements that can be
received on any standard AM radio. The transmitter closely resembles a
small VCR and it will broadcast a 100mW signal to any standard AM radio
within range. The transmitter soon caught the interest of hobby radio
enthusiasts and eventually it became a popular device for aspiring DJ's
and announcers who wanted to create their own neighborhood radio
station. The transmitter does not require any license to operate and it
is completely self contained with everything necessary for easy set up
and operation. It will broadcast on any frequency between 530 KHz to
1700 KHz with 100 milliwatts output which is the full legal limit
allowed for unlicensed operation. The transmitter features LED frequency
selection th!
at locks in for a drift free signal on the AM broadcast band. It even
features a built in antenna tuner that will automatically calibrate the
transmitter for maximum performance to the supplied antenna. The typical
range using the supplied 10 foot wire antenna usually averages about ?
mile in a suburban area. An external antenna can also be connected to
the Remote Antenna Jack on the back panel. Audio can be recorded using
built in microphone which stores a 5 minute message that continuously
repeats on the audio loop chip. Live audio can also be fed using the
Direct Live Input Feed Jack on the back panel. This transmitter can be
used to broadscast local messages to recreation facilities, camp
grounds, stadiums, block parties, neighborhood fairs, church and school
events, or you can just have fun and set it up to create your own
neighborhood radio station! Complete with AC adapter included. Excellent
condition. Ready to go on the air! $50.00 + $15.00 shipping. Contact
KA2EEV!

[IRCA] UK Pirates

2009-03-03 Thread Mike Stonebridge
Hi Everyone:

There was an interesting piece on the BBC news website this morning about
pirate radio in the UK. I've always known pirate radio existed there as I have
heard them, from the UK unfortunately, but I never realised there were so many.
According to this article, as many as 150 are operating at any given time. Go
to http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7920067.stm for all the details.

[IRCA] WTOR-770 open carrier - where to complain?

2009-03-03 Thread Mike Brooker
For the past several months (perhaps for more than a year now) WTOR-770 has
been leaving their carrier on all night after sign-off. Their open carrier
is seriously hammering WABC from my location in mid-town Toronto. In
particular, I like to listen to Imus in the morning before WTOR signs on,
and can't hear the I-Man too well under the WTOR carrier. I would like to
file a complaint, but where or to whom? The FCC likely will not respond to
complaints from outside the U.S. Industry Canada and the CRTC have no
jurisdiction over WTOR even if they maintain an office in Toronto and
virtually all of WTOR's programming is intended for Canadians. Not much
point in reporting the interference to WABC, as skywave listeners no longer
count for anything to I-A clear channel blowtorches - they're just radio
nerds, beyond the range of potential advertising revenue. And I doubt
WTOR, or their parent company Birach Broadcasting, would give a rat's
hindquarters, if they even know what an open carrier is.

Re: [IRCA] WTOR-770 open carrier - where to complain?

2009-03-03 Thread Greg Shoom
Mike, I think you should complain to WABC. WABC might not care that much
about us Canadians listening to them, but they probably do care about
people in central and upstate New York who listen to them, and if WTOR
is on all night, they'll be interfering with WABC's signal in New York
State as well as in Ontario.

A report to the FCC might get some action too. After all if WTOR is
leaving their carrier on all night, they're breaking the FCC's rules,
and the FCC takes a dim view of that.

Best,
Greg Shoom
