[IRCA] TP for 8 Apr from Victoria, BC

2009-04-08 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
It didn't seem as good a morning today, but a very odd strongest signal, and
China is still being heard. Signals seemed even more erratic than usual.
Listened from 1300-15UT, and again briefly at 1340 when most had faded.

pretty darn good audio (at least briefly):

603 likely HLSA with pop mx at 1304UT

reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or
noise):

594 JOAK
738 unID 36Hz hum and man talking
774 JOUB
828 JOBB, something under may have been Aussie?
1566 HLAZ w/JJ talk
1575 likely VoA

not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise:

747 JOIB
936 CC talk at 1313UT, so Anhui RGD?
972 HLCA
1053 100Hz hum, still unID
1206 likely CRI w/man talking, off channel

Burbles in the splatter and noise:

918 no idea, though China has been heard on the coast

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

666, 1098 DU, 1134

best wishes,

Nick

Pete

I noticed a similar problem with KOMO several months ago at sunset.
They suddenly went off the air for a couple of minutes right when they
should have switched to the night time DA. I haven't noticed it any
other time, so it might have been an isolated incident. Or maybe not.

[IRCA] KFI 640 is now IBOC

2009-04-08 Thread Patrick Martin
Got the word that KFI turned on their IBOC. I can barely notice a slight
amount of hiss on 630 off the SW EWE and none on 650, KSTE is stronger.
Being nearly 1,000 miles from LA and no antenna really pointed to the
SSE. KFI is weaker here than with their old tower that fell. KNX is
still the strongest LA area station here. I do notice their IBOC, but
not much. The only concern I have is with the splits.

Re: [IRCA] KFI 640 is now IBOC

2009-04-08 Thread satya
Hey Patrick:

When KFI first came on the air with their new antenna a few weeks
(months?) ago, they were blaring in up here, but they are noticeably
weaker these days, not much stronger than when they were on their back-up
antenna. In listening to KFI tonight, their audio sounds atrocious,
indicating they are IBOCing. I can't say I notice their IBOC some 1200
miles to the north, although I have a strong local on 630 that covers up
the lower digital sideband noise and enough occupants on 650 to make the
upper digital sideband manageable.
