[IRCA] 1380 kHz Chinese?
Hi all, a station in Chinese heard here in Finland at 0300 this morning? Frequency seemed to be a bit below; 1379.984 kHz or so. All I can understand from the ID is the end " ... Guangbo Diantai". I see that WKDM should be in Chinese, but are there other possibilities? Re: [IRCA] TIS Stations in Washington
Colin At one time, TIS stations could only operate on 530 and 1610, but that's long since changed. They can now operate on any freq between 530 and 1700, or maybe 1710. Locally, we also have TIS stations on 1520, 1500, 1650, and maybe a couple of others. 530 is a very commonly used TIS freq in the Seattle area - the State has several of them around here. 1610 is not used in the Seattle due to having locals on 1590 and 1620. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 9-24...Chinese Boom In
Hello All, As reported by John, Walt, Bruce, Colin and Dennis (at Grayland), the morning conditions were very impressive. Didn't have too much time to chase TP's here, but did notice that the Mandarin Chinese station on 603 kHz was again dominant over HLSA at 1335-- which makes me wonder why others aren't reporting it. 738-Taiwan Fisheries was a 9+ at 1345 with its buzzing carrier, the strongest I've ever heard it. I replaced the MP3 on the Ultralightdx file site with a recording made this morning, which sounded like the transmitter was next door (and about to explode). Taiwan is a relatively rich country (unlike North Korea), so it's a puzzle why they don't correct the problem. 73, Gary DeBock Modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) Modified C.Crane SWP (7.5" Slider loopstick and CFJ455K5 filter) 36" Collapsible frame tuned passive loop ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] 1350 KCAR question
I first noted these guys in 2002 or 2003 if I recall. There was some superb TX cx in Feb and some rare TX loggings here. I did have KCAR a bit prior to their sunset one night but wasn't sure whether they reduced power then or not. Anyhow, I do think others can log KCAR if they spend some time on 1350. The usual format is classic country. 73 KAZ Barrington IL - Original Message - From: "HASCALL, DAVID CIV DFAS" To: ; Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 11:38 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] 1350 KCAR question Right Paul (Walker) but even if stuck on day power, 410 watts from TX (Texas!) to Scotland / Ireland is a HUGE accomplishment. [IRCA] EXCELLENT TPs from Orcas Island: Sept 24
It's getting difficult to judge "the best of the season, so far," but this morning was a candidate, for sure. From 1300 kHz on down, I only had ten channels without at least some Asian audio, including the zero-ending channels. Above 1300, there were ten of the usual suspects. The more interesting ones: 549: Murmur level that was at lang. recognition fairly early. It was the rare visitor R. Mayak out of either Magadan or Vladivostok. I had a slew of stations // to North Korea's KCBS 2850, including the unlisted 675, running about equal with VoV around 1400 Others //2850 noted were: 702, 720, 819, 873. The 873 transmitter has mostly been a widely-spaced LSB + USB growl lately, but today, it was doing just wonderfully. They must have found some parts somewhere. 702.030 had an awful hum: the signal looked like a trident, with the outer spikes being somewhat lower and only modulated by hum. 639 and 756 were both doing unusually well as CNR1//5030. 891 had classical Western music on it like Russian stations often broadcast, but it was not Mayak and I'm not sure of a likely candidate at all. It was not CNR2, either. 990 had an Asian language on it, fairly weak. It was neither standard CC, KK, JJ or VV. Some interesting possibilities. 1080 The sub-dominant sounded like North Korea, but I forgot to check the 2850 listed //. It was a fun morning for sure. I certainly wish that North Korea QSLed! Re: [IRCA] 1350 KCAR question
Checknig radio-locator, Google maps, and FCCInfo.cmo I see KCAR-AM's tower is almost 297 feet tall, but not located within at least 1/2 mile of ANY body of water of any signifigance. Instead of a skirt up the tower for about 175 feet, which is about 1/4 wave for 1350Khz, the entire tower is likely the radiotor. The AM tower is alost home to the 50KW/308 foot signal of KGAP 98.5 which was a simulcast of KEWL 95.1 Texarkana. *Before anyone says something, the tower may only be 297 feet tall, but that doesn't mean the FM bays stopp there. Each bay, depending on model, can be very large and the HAAT refers to the center of radiation so say, a 6 bay, could extend another 20 feet above the top of the tower* Paul Walker, Jr. www.onairdj.com www.facebook.com/onairdj walkerbroadcast...@gmail.cmo On Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 11:38 AM, Neil Kazaross wrote: > WOW ..they are making it across the pond !!! Re: [IRCA] Great cx towards NW from IL
Thx guys.,...was certainly impressive cx towards the NW to put it mildly. Things did seem to taper off about 12:45 am CDT. I tried to get something more positive from KFQD ..ie some of their channel 2 newscast relay at 1 am my time but nada. As for CFPR finally something I could pin down as CBC English. I did try to // it to CBU but when I phased Montreal, WLW 's IBOC wasn't phased and I couldn't really tell what was in the mess. When I report these two, I will play it safe until I can get something more positive and call them tentative. I was shocked by CFYM 1210. If this is really 250 watts at night (Any Alberta DXers here know if they reduce to night power) at 1175 miles it is quite a catch. Anyone needing KYES 1180 should note that they seemed near local-like last night. I have doubts that they were using proper night facilities. 73 KAZ Barrington IL - Original Message - From: "Bruce Portzer" To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" Sent: Thursday, September 24, 2009 2:13 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Great cx towards NW from IL Neil Congratulations on hearing KFQD and CFPR.
