Nigel, KJNP is very rare here. Maybe because of so much activity on 1170. Korea and the Philippines are more common on top of KPUG. John, I was trying to pull enough signal out of presumed Romania on 855 and then going back to 1503, presumed Iran. Amazing DX we are getting! I tryed to pull audio out on 918. It may have been threshold at one point, but a lot of domestic splatter. Farda 1575 was quite good at times. Probably the best of the evening. I got AA singing on 531 while looking for Faroe, I presume Algeria. Re: [IRCA] KSL 1160 IS OFF!!!
Well it was fun while it lasted. About 0530 EST KSL popped back on. However, I believe I may have logged WYLL. From 4-4:30 AM, they ran Induring the Truth with a Black preacher, show was out of CA, per 877 number given and address at end of program. At 0427 I heard Celebrating 20 years ..of Christian Then a promo by Big Lloyd about some Christian music program. It sounded like something was said about The Light then some spot for home or window repair. Then bang KSL returned at S9+45 DB!!! Wiping out any possibility of an ID. Was this WYLL? Thanks. Drake R8 1500' Eastern beverage By the way, who on 1150 or 1170 from the Midwest or East is running IBOC? KFAQ? Off the LSB the IBOC hash was bad. The USB was ok, except for a HUGE signal from a Chinese on 1161, even audible off the Eastern beverage. I unterminated it to use it for LW and other stuff. Tonight I wish I would have had it terminated. I was much more interested in the Domestics on 1160 than the TPs on 1161. I can always go after those in the mornings after KSL fades. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-12... Anemic
Hello All, Around 0300 UTC yesterday (during a nice west coast TA opening) it seemed like the band suddenly dived, and the mediocre conditions certainly continued throughout the local sunrise period. The strongest TP's (594, 603, 657, 666, 738, 747, 774, 828 and 972 kHz) had decent audio, but the second-tier Asians were seriously down-- and none of the common co-channel TP's showed up to pester the NHK big guns on 594, 666 and 828. The high band seemed depressed, and the rest of the band was depressing. After last night's great TA opening, however, I guess we shouldn't be too disappointed. [IRCA] WOYK 1350 and KQLO 1590 contact info
Does anyone have a valid email address for WOYK York PA 1350 AM? This was one of the stations I heard recently in Lapland, but the station doesn't seem to have a website and I can't find a way to get in touch with them. The phone number given in various sources (717-840-0355) only goes to voice mail, and based on my experience, US radio stations never return calls to foreign phone numbers. Of course, there's the old-fashioned way of actually sending a report by mail, but I'd rather do it quicker. Also, it seems that KQLO Sun Valley NV (1590 AM) has been revived from bankruptcy under new ownership. The previous owner was notoriously lazy in responding to reception reports, but does anyone know any contact info for the current station? Hi all: Last night I got a 9x10 foot Slinky Super Loop installed in my shack, and it appears that I am now able to actually hear TPs and contribute here! Not sure what size Super Loop it equates to, but it really pulls it in, is deathly quiet even in the urban RF zoo here, and has nulls off the back (with an adjustable pot) like I have never seen before. I agree with Gary's comments and list. 972-KK was remarkably muted, although 693 was pretty good here. China CR1 on 639, verified with the //5030, was quite good here, with 640-KFI completely nulled out on the Super Loop. I had brief audio on 738, and by the sounds of the music was Taiwan Fisheries. Re: [IRCA] Slinky Super Loop
Hi Kevin, Can you describe your antenna in more detail? I've had Slinkys on hand for months after learning about David Hamilton's (Scotland) success, but haven't yet built anything with them. Are you using the Slinkys on all four sides? Is your transformer a 16:1 impedance ratio? At what bearing is your antenna oriented? If I ever get something built with my Slinkys, it will go on the rotating frame that now supports my ALA100, or along a fence line. 73 Guy Atkins Puyallup, WA www.fivebelow.squarespace.com Date: Thu, 12 Nov 2009 11:35:09 -0800 (PST) From: sa...@sounddsl.com To: irca@hard-core-dx.com Subject: Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA TP's for 11-12... Kevin S Bainbridge Island, WA Hello All, Around 0300 UTC yesterday (during a nice west coast TA opening) it seemed like the band suddenly dived, and the mediocre conditions certainly continued throughout the local sunrise period. It's nice to see John joining in the wild TA fun, and hopefully the band will recover to give us more action tonight. 73, Gary DeBock Spotting receiver: Modified ICF-2010 (30 loopstick) Main receiver: Modified C.Crane SWP ultralight (7.5 Slider loopstick + CFJ455K5 filter) 9' PVC tuned passive loop (in the back yard) ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] TP's on Thursday - much improved
Contrarian that I am, I'm going to disagree with everyone else and say that TPs were good this morning. In fact, the best they've been since last Saturday. After several days of ho-hum/mediocre/so-so/humdrum/same'ol-same'ol DX, there were a few interesting things to be had today. I recorded a bit of the band (700-900 kHz) for couple of hours around 0800-1000 UT, and low-mid band towards sunrise. There was lots of activity both times, though nothing was all that strong. The domestic splatter seemed to be worst than usual, making it harder to hear some stations that otherwise had decent signal strength Here's the summary Really good audio (a native speaker could understand most of it, at least for a brief time) 594Japan 747Japan Somewhat OK audio (a native speaker could understand some of it some of the time) 639China 666 Japan //594 693 Japan 729Mix of Japan and China 738 Mix of Taiwan and Korea 774 Japan 828 Japan, with bits of China in background Marginal audio (recognizable as to program content but mostly not good enough to comprehend) 549Russia 603 Unid 621 Unid Chinese 648 Russia, sometimes good for a few seconds, but mostly bashed around by CISL splatter 576 Russia, decent signal but too much KVI splash 702 Unid, probably Japan 756 China 783 Unid(s), sounded like CC at times, unid language at other times 819 N Korea 846 weak pips, not sure whose 855 N Korea 1026 2 Chinese stations, one possibly Beijing 1035 CNR, with echoey audio 1053 Unid 1071 weak MW in language that didn't sound like CC or JJ, possibly Tagalog 1257, definitely Chinese 1308 1098 Unid, possibly Nei Menggu in Mongolian 1305 1107Unid 1116Unid 1134 Japan or Korea, too much CKWX splash to tell 1206 Yanbian Carriers (sometimes with real or imaginary bits of audio) 531 558 567 585 657 792 1044 1125 1179 Bruce in Seattle SDR-IQ receiver, K9AY antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] KSL 1160 IS OFF!!!
Patrick, I have no doubt it was WYLL you heard. They're actually audible (if well under KSL) quite often here since they upgraded their signal a couple of years back. It so happened I was doing some overnight recordings last night, so caught KSL off at 5:00 pm Eastern, and was lucky enought to catch a clear Legacy 1160 WSKW Skowhegan ID.Not new, regrettably, but only the 2nd time heard, and any reception from Maine is more than welcome! 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta Patrick Martin wrote: Well it was fun while it lasted. I think the CC was probably the Taiwanese anyway which is unneeded. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] WYLL-1160 Tentative
Thanks J.D. According to another DXer that was listening at the same time, he heard the same ID I heard. Except he got all of the words in the ID. But it matches exactly to be WYLL. I did get enough info to try to get a QSL too. 73, Patrick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

At 0650UT, audio has been heard on 567, 576, 594, 747, 774 (quite good), 1008 (Russian?, quite weak and brief in splash), 1287...Good carriers on 666, 738 and 846 but the latter two may be Pacific Islands. best wishes, Nick * Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
