Re: [IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Friday
Hi Walt, Thanks for your interesting comments about the Oregon coast DU propagation. Before our vacations in Oregon, Guy and I had a nice discussion about how your Haida Gwaii location had a definite edge in TA and Asiatic TP propagation (over Victoria, Grayland, etc.) and how Patrick Martin seemed to have somewhat of an edge in DU propagation over everyone else. We discussed the unusual results of the July DXpedition to Lincoln City, OR, in which a humble Ultralight radio and 3' loop solidly received many DU's that aren't exactly "regulars" at Grayland. After this recent 3-day trip, it's easy to become a true believer that the Oregon coast does indeed have somewhat of a DU propagation edge over Grayland, judging by the 7 previous ULR Dxpeditions that John and I made to Grayland over the past 2 years, where we had nowhere near the DU success that these last two Oregon trips have produced. Guy also plans an investigation of the DU propagation during his current Oregon beach vacation, and I'll be very interested in his report. Unfortunately the Asiatic TP's are starting to seriously compete with the DU's now in NW Oregon, so we may need to postpone further investigation until around next spring. 73, Gary In a message dated 8/22/2010 9:32:37 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, can...@gmail.com writes: Great report so far, Gary. Clearly the Oregon coast sounds like a place that must be further explored and used, now that Grayland has become a little less accessible and quiet. No doubt the DU stations are simply much more difficult to hear up in these parts, and more so on Haida Gwaii (with a notable exception of my one night DC only DXpedition to Rose Spit on the north east corner of Haida Gwaii, when the entire band was full of NZ and Australian MW stations (August, 2008). At the cottage, the DU stations are always a fairly difficult catch, compared to Asia, and even Europe! .Walt On Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 4:25 AM, <_d1028g...@aol.com_ (mailto:d1028g...@aol.com) > wrote: Hi Steve, Thanks for the rundown of the DU's in NE Oregon on Friday. Both John B. and I had received 1017-Radio Tonga before at Grayland, but I'm pretty sure that the other 3 stations had never been previously received by ULR's on the west coast. Many other nice DU's also showed up again, like 603-Radio Waatea in NZ. The LW conditions were also great, with the new stand-alone 7.5" LW loopstick PL-380 solidly receiving all 5 Radio Rossii LW-TP's (153, 180, 189, 234 and 279 kHz) yesterday morning, with 4 nice MP3's made. Re: [IRCA] TP's for 08/22/10
Hi Nick, Dennis and Bill, Thanks for the report of the DX action from Victoria this morning, Nick. This morning at Lincoln City, Oregon, the TP and DU propagation dropped off somewhat in comparison to the previous two days, but there was still some lively action on 531 kHz (with three DU stations mixing), 594-NZ Rhema dominant over 3WV (and // 648) and the two NZ National Radio stations on 567 and 675 kHz fairly strong. 576-2RN had some unusual strength, and 639-Radio Fiji One was at a nice level. By contrast the upper band seemed very anemic, and the Radio Rossii LW TP's (153, 180, 189, 234 and 279 kHz) were nowhere near as strong as yesterday. Guy Atkins is still DXing at an Oregon beach 50 miles to the south (and we haven't yet compared notes), so it will be very interesting to read what his DXing results are with his Perseus SDR and (hopefully) a beverage antenna strung near the coast. 73, Gary DeBock (back in Puyallup, WA) In a message dated 8/22/2010 8:31:08 A.M. Not much MW then, but the LW band was quiet enough to allow whispering audio through from 153, 180, 189, 234 and 279, all in parallel, with a woman talking, occasionally with a man interjecting. Surprisingly, the best frequencies were 180 and 234, rather than the usual 279, but even for those the audio was not readable even if I spoke Russian. best wishes, Nick At 13:21 8/22/2010, Dennis wrote: >Listened from 1236-1350 utc. > > >153RUSSIA, Radio Rossii 1237 very weak with music. >180RUSSIA, Radio Rossii 1239 very weak with music. >279RUSSIA, Radio Rossii 1240 fair with man in Russian. >738TAHITI,? 1311 weak to fair at times with Island music >774JAPAN, JOUB NHK2 1241 weak with Japanese. >1566 REPUBLIC OF KOREA, HLAZ 1247 weak to fair with religious music. > Briefly at 1304 with music, fair at times. > > >Dennis, >Salmon Creek, WA >JRC NRD 545 >Ewe NW >Local Sunrise 1320 utc >___ >IRCA mailing list >IRCA@hard-core-dx.com >http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca > >Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers > >For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org > >To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com * Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

I am in coastal WI tonite with TA oriented phased BOGs set up and will see if CKWW is noted on 580. 73 KAZ -Original Message- >From: todftscytj7...@aol.com >Sent: Aug 22, 2010 12:37 AM >To: irca@hard-core-dx.com >Cc: irca@hard-core-dx.com >Subject: [IRCA] 580 CIWW > >Hi all. [IRCA] NRC/WTFDA 2010 Convention program now available
At least 53 of you are now signed up for the NRC/WTFDA 2010 Convention that starts Thursday evening here in Rochester - and if you'd like an early preview of what's on tap and where to go, the entire convention program is now available in PDF form. (Convention attendees will also get a printed version when they arrive in town.) Download it now at http://www.fybush.com/2010program.pdf - and check in with me if you have any questions. And if you haven't yet confirmed your attendance at the Thursday night pre-convention dinner or Rochester Red Wings ballgame, please talk to me ASAP so we can make sure you have a seat and a ticket... Colin, Either the link you posted is invalid, or you didn't stream for very long after you sent your message. Incidentally, many stream links are like; http://00.00.00.00:/listen.pls although one can certainly have an m3u link with any title referencing the stream URL. Re: [IRCA] TP's for 08/22/10
Good to see you back in action Dennis. Inaction described me better at sunrise this morning, catching up on sleep after a rather heavy travel day, but as an aging DXer, I was up briefly at 1150UT. > > >Dennis, >Salmon Creek, WA >JRC NRD 545 >Ewe NW >Local Sunrise 1320 utc >___ >IRCA mailing list >IRCA@hard-core-dx.com >http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca > >Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original >contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its >editors, publishing staff, or officers > >For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org > >To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com * Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
