834 Belize was not a pest in the San Francisco Bay area. I was lucky enough to
verified
them and have their QSL card framed on the wall next to Haiti 4VEH.

Re: [IRCA] Belize 834

2010-08-26 Thread John Callarman
The Ecuadorian QSLs in my collection came from stations on 995 and 805, the
latter a DX test put on when Dave Gleason owned the station. His QSL letter to
me has been on display on Dave's website. Best Brazilian QSL was from 980
station, heard in July, in the mid '60s from Texas. Argentina and Peru heard
but did not confirm reports. My favorite South American QSL was Radio Mendez,
Bolivia, on 680 ... Larry Godwin and I were the first to hear this baby, he in
Denver, me in Houston, in 1966. There was a brief window on Monday mornings
after San Francisco signed off and before WAPA signed on ... Boston nulled in
our direction and Mendez's distinctive native music was unmistakable. Early in
1967, Gordon Nelson in Watertown, Mass,, was able to find a Monday morning when
WRKO was off the air, and snared this one ... I listened to his tape and it was
absolute.

Those, amigos, were the days! What fun it would have been to have Perseus
recordings of a few Monday mornings in 1964, 65 and 66.

I also managed to log and QSL HCJB-690 during one of their monthly DX tests
in January 1996. Only "deep South American" I've EVER logged on MW (no Brazil,

No, not a pest. Belize was nice to hear on 834 in California, bringing Top

I can only imagine what a huge signal it must have had in the southeastern
U.S.
I was in Miami in 1979 but don't recal hearing it.

Re: [IRCA] TP's for 08/26/10

2010-08-26 Thread D1028Gary
Hi Dennis,

Congratulations on your fine E100 Ultralight TP loggings from the Ocean
Spray Beach Resort in Grayland. You certainly did a great job with the tiny
radio, and the Space Magnet loop!

Our family also recently returned from an ocean beach trip to Lincoln City,
Oregon (August 20-22), during which the conditions mostly favored the DU
stations, but with occasional Asiatic TP reception. From now on the DU's
will probably get tougher to log, so it was nice to hear them with good
strength one last time this season.

Thanks again for your Grayland TP-DX report, Dennis, and I hope you
wouldn't mind if I re-post it on the Yahoo Ultralightdx list, where they would
be
very interested in your E100 TP-DX loggings.

Have an audio recording and QSL from 1976.

Do not believe I have ever heard Ecuador on MW - that would be a catch

Patrick & Steve,

Our local Russian station on 1710 kHz appears to be off the air.
On my 3 most recent visits to the East Vancouver area the station
has been off the air. I have not heard the Seattle area Russian

[IRCA] TP/DU DX 8/26

2010-08-26 Thread Patrick Martin
So far a rather poor morning on the North Coast. I still need to peak up
the SW EWE. The best this morning was 2PM-531 at around S7 on peaks.

5312PMAUSTRALIA, Port Macquirrie, fair to poor with non top
oldie pop music "Just When I needed You The Most" then "MoreMusic, More
Favorites" a spot for a Jewelery store, followed by some event in
Kempsey, then into "Dedicated To The One I love-Mamas and Papas) at
1223-1228 UTC 8/28. As usual no call letter ID, but enough to prety much
ID them. I have ben hearing this station since the 1970s when they were
2KM (Kempsey) on 530 with 2 KW. Then in 1979 they moved to 531, in the
80s boosted to 5 KW directional and switched to 2MC (Mid Coast Radio),
then in to 90s going to 2PM (Port Macquarie). Hard to get a call ID out
of them these days, but at least there are times the spots give them
away. (PM-OR)

576/594 JAPAN, Both rather poor with what sounded like a JJ Play of
some kind at 1234 8/26. Woman in JJ. (PM-OR)

738TAHITI, fair with woman in FF at 1237 8/26. (PM-OR)

891JAPAN, Sendai JOHK fair at peaks //594with what sounded like
play at 1243 8/26. Over unid which sounded like Sports, so probably
Australia. (PM-OR)

972 KOREA, fair with woman in KK at 1241 8/26, lots of 960 IBOC noise.
(PM-OR)

1053 KOREA, weak with man and woman in KK 1245 8/26. (PM-OR)

Nothing except a few hets on the Tecsun PL-380. Tried to pull audio out
on 531, but could not quite make it.
