[IRCA] TP for 1 Sep from Victoria, BC

2010-09-01 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Started before 1230UT, and lasting until after 1300. If anything, conditions
seemed better earlier this morning, but beyond the first tier of stations,
there really wasn't much to be heard.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB
1566 HLAZ

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

828 JOBB at various times

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

594 JOAK?
738 likely Tahiti per direction
1287 JOHR? very poor in splash

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

693, not enough to deliver audio in CBU splash; 1008, 1053 1098

best wishes,

Nick

Hi Derek,

BEL2 is the official name for the 100 kw 738 kHz station in Penghu, Taiwan.
You may remember the buzzing signal it had this time last year, as in this
recording using a 3' bedside loop last September:
_http://www.mediafire.com/?njno91gntme_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?njno91gntme)

For some bizarre reason this station seems to come in very well at this
modest DXing location (in comparison to what the other TP-DXers reported last
year). Around October it is often the strongest TP on the band here.

[IRCA] 1220 CHSC gets stay to appeal

Just off the phone with CRTC media relations. CHSC owner Pellpropco filed a
motion Aug 25 with the Federal Court of Appeal and a stay to appeal was
granted Aug 31. CHSC is therefore on the air legally for the time being, I
would expect at least until the appeal is heard and/or ruled upon. I've
asked for clarification and further information in terms of time lines and
will report back if and when I hear anything.

[IRCA] Alberta DU for 1 Sep 2010

2010-09-01 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Overall, things not quite as good as yesterday here, but as Steve
noted, the upper band seemed favored today.

All DU audio once again (have yet to hear any Asians in this young season):

828 - 3GI with weak talk
891 - 4TAB on top this am with race results, and the best DU signal of
the morning. 5AN audible underneath

1107 - just detectable audio @1240
1116 - usual 4BC, though rather weak this morning
1521 - bits of audio now and again. Sounded like an Australian, with
man taking phone calls.

1539 - weak, but could tell it was English, with man and woman speaking.
1566 - Lengthy ad string, then caught nice clear ID as 15-double 6,
3NE New one for me, Australia #39 In from 1240 to past 1300.
X-band - none quite made it to audio, but lots of quite decent
carriers. The one on 1683 was noted well off freq at 1683.24 or so, and
three were noted on 1701, ranging from 1701.01 to 1701.06.

Hello All,

Like everyone else, I made a serious TP-DXing effort this morning, hopeful
of some nice Asiatic signals (and with the additional motivation to evict
some spiders and other pests from the dormant loops in the back yard). The
nice Asiatic signals never seemed to show up, but healthy spiders were out
in force.

Stations below were heard on the C.Crane SWP Slider (7.5 loopstick) and
7.5' PVC tuned passive loop:

594JOAK Best of the NHK signals this morning, with good audio at 1303
666JOBK Audio in and out around 1310
738BEL2 (presumed) Threshold Chinese audio from the Asiatic
direction
927China (presumed) Another station with ghostlike Chinese audio in
and out
1053 Mix Equally weak stations drowning out each other at 1313
1134 JOQR Fair male-female Japanese audio around 1326

1566 HLAZ Fair religious music in Japanese program at 1321

1575 VOA(presumed) Weak Asiatic language audio in and out around 1316
