Re: [IRCA] 830 kHz, I was wrong again!

2010-09-16 Thread George Sherman
WCRN website only mentioned God Talk for religion didn't say when. They
don't seem to list what they carry overnight? Most of their schedule seems
conservative talk and what some might call infomercials or paid programming.

I went to Roy Masters' website www.fhu.com and it lists Advice Line 4-5 am
Tu-F 2-4 am *Saturday* on WCRN.  My reception was about 2-4 am EDT *Sunday*
but many consider a day as not over until they go to bed, so maybe a safe
assumption it was them?

Advice Line has been on the radio 52 years is currently on about 175
stations. This was the only one I saw for 830. Thanks for all replies. 73,
George S., MN

WCRN's website is http://www.wcrnradio.com/on-air.htm

If WCRN carries Roy masters, it's new as it isnt o nthe program schedule.

deficit. So I was unaware that one station was fading out quickly quickly
 replaced by the other.

When I heard Talk Radio slogan at bottom of hour, I thought WTRU? probably
said Christian (unreadable) Talk Radio as their website shows that slogan.
Definitely many calls with religious subject, and what I think of as
southern accents. Carolina was mentioned 2 or 3 times, including Carolina
Mobile, which is listed as a sponsor on the WTRU website.

Also when WTRU showed Truth Radio Network on their website, I thought that
might be what they said, but thought Truth sounded like 2 syllables. Does
the CRN in WCRN stand for Christian Radio Network? (Christian is  2
syllables). Or did I miss a syllable maybe they said CBS Radio Network? Or
maybe they said True Talk Radio Network?

WCRN is listed as CBS True Talk on Barry's site. When I tried a search
engine for CBS True Talk, nothing came up? Roy Masters seemed like a mix of
religion politics, except some of that talk may have been WTRU, listed as
carrying Micheal Medved. I would like to thank Ken Baird for telling me WCRN
does carry Roy Masters. Also, I heard a CBS News sounder weakly about 15
seconds before I heard it stronger on WCCO. 73, George S., MN

Conditions here this morning seemed to reflect what others were saying
yesterday morning. I was out of town yesterday, but apparently didn't
miss too much if today is any indication. No TP audio at all today,

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-16

2010-09-16 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

The TP propagation doldrums continued for a second day here, and it
was a scramble to find decent Asiatic audio. An indication of the poor
conditions was the failure of 1566-HLAZ to produce audio here, for the first
time in all of September. The morning wasn't a total waste, though-- there
were a couple of bizarre TP fade-ins that were completely out of character
with the poor propagation, providing a reminder once again that strange
things can happen at any time in this hobby.
594-JOAK was the first to produce audio at 1325, but it was poor at
best. 828-JOBB was the same way at 1327, refusing to stick around. Then
suddenly 648-VOR (of all stations) faded in at a fair level with Russian music
at 1329 during the Chinese program, stuck around for a minute, then dropped
out completely. Shortly after that the 1053-Korean Jammer did the same
thing at 1335, producing a fairly strong buzzing signal, as if to make a
point. Various other TP's on 657, 738, 747, 972 and 1134 produced threshold
audio, but nothing like these two overachievers. All things considered,
despite the lackluster propagation, it was a strangely interesting morning.

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the
rainy
back yard):

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Poor audio at 1325, but practically ghostlike
648 VORRazdolnoye, Russia Very strange fade-in with music during
Chinese external program at 1329; unusual strength for the
poor
propagation _http://www.mediafire.com/?4qrf4egkqx61qaw_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?4qrf4egkqx61qaw)
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Threshold audio in and out throughout morning
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Another NHK big gun reduced to weak audio
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Threshold audio around 1338
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Very weak Korean speech at 1341
1053 Korean Jammer Once again producing fair buzzing during fairly
  poor propagation
_http://www.mediafire.com/?45scruhjsms73h0_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?45scruhjsms73h0)
1134 TP-Mix Very weak mix above the noise level at 1343, apparently
JOQR-KBS

73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
657 Pyongyang, N. Korea Threshold audio from rough carrier at 1338

[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle 9-16

2010-09-16 Thread Bruce Portzer
My experiences were similar to everyone else's this morning, but I thought
conditions were slightly better than yesterday.

HLAZ-1566 and JOUB-774 had decent signal strengths for brief periods. They
might have had readable audio were it not for electrical noise on HLAZ and
KTTH-770 splatter on JOUB.

594 693 747 828 972 and 1134 tried to cough up unimpressively tiny chunks of
audio but there was barely enough to tell whether it was voice or music

Carriers and/or hets were noted on 639 648 729 738 756 891 909 981 1008 1071
1179 1422 1475 and 1521 but most of them were quite weak.

[IRCA] Mexico's Bicentennial Celebration Ceremonies

2010-09-16 Thread Stephen Ponder
Did anybody catch any XE's broadcasting special programming last night?

I totally forgot that last night was the eve of Mexico's Bicentennial
Celebration and that Presidente Calderon would be leading the El Grito and
ringing the Hidalgo Bell from the Metropolitan Cathedral in the Zocalo Region
of Mexico City. Bummer! I had planned to listen around 0500 GMT (2300 Local)
to any of the major Mexico City outlets to see what I heard.

Did anybody catch anything of significance last night?

[IRCA] Poor TA/TP conditions in Manitoba

2010-09-16 Thread Barry Wasylik
DXing last night/this morning (Sept 15/16) 50 miles East on Winnipeg, MB
using beverages and NRD-535D

No TAs - a few very weak hets - 783 747 774 855

In the morning around sunrise conditions also poor -
some hets but little audio.

738 - was in at times with decent audio that you could tell was French and
understand a few words.

Just before sunrise (11:52 GMT) some audio on 774 765 and 1116 but not even
strong enough to tell what language
atho based on time and direction of antenna I'm pretty sure they were DU.

[IRCA] WATH 970 on Day Power

2010-09-16 Thread David Faulkner
Hi All:

WATH, 970, Athens is running day power because of the weather emergency.
Several buildings trailers in and around Athens were destroyed by apparent
tornadoes.  Station owner Dave Palmer is hosting/running the board.  Format
right now is announcements interspersed with oldies.  I doubt they get very far
with all the competition.  They also seem to have much better groundwave than
skywave propagation.  Still, some of you might be able to pull them out.  Given
the number of emergency vehicles coming in to bring support to the locals from
other counties, the emergency could last for awhile.  The storms are all east
of us now.  The hardest hit area appears to be The Plains, a village across the
ridge from Athens.
