[IRCA] Strong het on 530khz this evening

2010-11-10 Thread Marc DeLorenzo

Tom,

Most likely Algeria but Spain is also a good possibility and Kaz reported many
Spaniards last night from his DX Shack in Grafton, WI. Keep trying and also
check 549 for Algeria which is usually stronger than 531 here on the East
Coast.

I see that you are from the hometown of John Belushi and journalist/author Bob

The first ever purpose-built DXpedition base in Finland was constructed
arlier this year, tested by us in October, and found to be excellent. A
partan cabin in the middle of nowhere is equipped with nine beverage
ntennas, each almost a kilometer in length. A bunch of New Zealand AM
tations and a 10-watt highway advisory station from Alaska were among
he highlights heard in Aihkiniemi.

I also heard this one (WCXN - NC) last night which is new to the ULR

Over the weekend, I caught WMOB 1360-AL and WMER 1390-MS for the first

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-10

2010-11-10 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

It's nice to be in complete agreement with Richard and Bill that this
morning's Asian propagation was improved over yesterday, with a healthy
sunrise enhancement here producing many vibrant TP signals. The Asian big
guns were generally restored to their normal strong levels, although some
mystery co-channels pestered them on certain frequencies (a typical quirk of
late-season TP propagation).
The Korean big gun 972-HLCA has been fighting a battle with an UnID
station (apparently Chinese, because of rare Chinese speech) with an
English study format from 1430-1530 the past week, although there don't seem
to
be any reports of such a station format in the PAL, or other recent
loggings. A slow English speech format was heard on the station six days ago
during one of its rare dominant periods, and it has been pestering HLCA
heavily
on mornings with good propagation. Another interesting signal was
657-Pyongyang's huge carrier with apparent puny modulation, having the high

Another interesting signal was
657-Pyongyang's huge carrier with apparent puny modulation, having the high
audio
frequencies seemingly reduced by a transmitter issue. 738-BEL2 (Taiwan
Fisheries) had another excellent signal this morning with its typical Chinese
pop
music, and most of the Asian powerhouses were still going strong at 1520,
when DXing was cut short here. Hopefully this vibrant transoceanic
propagation will continue at least until tonight, allowing a few TA's to make

[IRCA] TP for 10 Nov from Victoria, BC.

2010-11-10 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
I didn't really notice sunrise enhancement today, if only because signals were
not bad from 1400UT onwards; really not bad in retrospect, just not too much
that was really good. Interesting that Gary has heard EE on 972; I had a SAH
on there yesterday, which is unusual, but no audio to argue with the big Korean.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

747 JOIB
774 JOUB
1566 HLAZ

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK //594 at 1504
576 RR talk by man and brief Mayak chimes at 1430UT
594 JOAK
828 JOBB
873 JOGB //774
972 HLCA
1242 JJ talk by man at 1511UT, so JOLF
1287 JOHR JJ talk at 1431

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

279 R. Rossii
558 HLQH //603, something underneath
603 HLSA //558, also something underneath
621 CC talk at 1510UT
639 CNR-1 //6030
648 CC talk before 1500UT, presumably VoR
855 hum gradually giving way to KK talk by woman; no // available, but assumed
N. Korea
873 N. Korea fighting w/JOGB, //2850 at 1429 w/singing
936 presumed Anhui, woman in CC at 1517UT
981 CNR-1 //6030, woman in CC then mx 1450UT; really quite good strength, but
too much 980 splatter
1044 CRI woman talking //7410 at 1451UT
1314 unID at 1518 w/choral mx and piano, almost like a hymn, followed by woman
talking as it faded down. Definitely didn't sound commercial Japanese. Guess
Korea's CBS radio is a possibility, but didn't have time to get their webstream
(which lists FM only) going before they faded.

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

153 and 180 both R. Rossii
702 mx seemed //2850 at 1436 along with big hum, so N. Korea.
864.? often a good carrier
1143 could be CC, so Taiwan?
1323 weak singing assumed CRI; much bigger carrier than audio delivered
1332 sounded like JJ talk, so JOSF
1377 CNR-1 woman talking //6030
1494 mysterious grumbling at 1520UT
1503 seemed //594 so JOUK
1575 likely VoA
1593 seemed //1377 so CNR-1

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

1098 DU, 1206, 1521 off channel

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] TP's in Seattle 11-10-10

2010-11-10 Thread Bruce Portzer
TP's today weren't bad for mid November. I didn't hear anything
spectacular, but many of the usual suspects were putting in somewhat OK
signals. Here's what I heard 1410-1435.

Really nice audio, much of it understandable by a native speaker
JOAB-693
JOIB-747
JOUB-774
CNR1-981

Somewhat OK audio, words and phrases understandable by a native speaker
JOAK-594
VoR-648
JOBK-666
738 Taiwan
JOBB-828
KBS-972

Bits and pieces of audio, most with recognizable program content
KBS-603
621 unid in Chinese
756 China
1017 weak talk, probably CRI
1044CRI
1098 woman in Chinese or similar language
1134 probably KBS
1188 possibly some audio in KEX splatter
1206 Yanbian, woman in KK

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 10 Nov 2010

2010-11-10 Thread Nigel Pimblett
In terms of the number of stations with audio this was perhaps the best
morning of the season. However, the majority of the audio was in the
barely there category, making the following list of audio seem more
impressive than it really was. Still, an interesting morning, with
audio from Russia all the way down to Australia.

549 - unID with music, very likely Mayak from Russia
567 - Japan, JOIK
594 - Japan, JOAK
639 - China, CNR1
648 - Russia, one of the best signals of the season for this one
666 - Japan, JOBK
675 - unID, very faint audio at 1417
657 - unID, faint audio traces. A bit off freq, so presumably N.Korea
693 - Japan, JOAB, weaker than the other big guns from Japan
738 - unID, very weak with man speaking at 1402
756 - unID with two men speaking at 1415
747 - Japan, JOIB
774 - Japan, JOUB, the best signal this am
819 - N.Korea, nice signal
828 - Japan, JOBB, very good signal, nearly as strong as 774
846 - Australia, ABC Canberra. Very weak but caugjht ABC news theme
music at 1400.
855 - N.Korea, weak with talk by man (at least 50 Hz high, with a
sllightly weaker carrier on freq)

873 - Japan, JOGB
945 - China, CNR1
972 - S.Korea
981 - China, CNR1
1044 - China, traces of CRI
1098 - unID, very weak audio with talk by a man.
1107 - unID, weak, with woman and man speaking, then music at 1413.
Sounded Japanese or Korean.

1116 - Australai, 4BC Brisbane. Weak at first, up to fair level by 1418
1134 - S.Korea, reached audio for a couple of minutes at 1421
1188 - unID, traces of a man speaking at 1411
1206 - China, Yanbian
1566 - S.Korea, an underpeformer today, not reaching audio at all until 1421

Listening was between 1345 and 1430.

73,

Nigel Pimblett
