[IRCA] Radio Heritage - 150 Donors Needed
Radio Heritage Foundation www.radioheritage.net 150 Donors Needed for 2011 __ Just imagine the loss if someone didn't take care of the stuff connected to radio broadcasting..the stories, tape recordings, photos, memorabilia and all the bits and pieces that continue to daily help shape our popular cultureand if you couldn't share and enjoy these things for free. Here at the Radio Heritage Foundation we've done this out of our own pockets for over 5 years, but our bank manager says no more, operational costs have to come from elsewhere in 2011. We want to keep the site free and add much more from the boxes of tapes, directories, old radio programs, photos and other stuff that keeps stacking up on a daily basis. Please visit www.radioheritage.net now and use the donation button in the feature '150 Sponsors Underwrite Operating Costs in 2011'. When 150 people donate US$100 each, we can cover 85% of our overheads for the year, even US$40 will sponsor one day so you can see that you can personally make a big difference right now. Former DJ Keith Richardson has entrusted us with a lifetime collection of recordings, read his story at www.radioheritage.net/story187.asp. Your donation will help us catalog and digitize his many hours of tapes, so we can share a rare insight into 1960's pop culture. Your donation helps cover the costs of storing and researching nearly 100,000 tapes, cassettes, QSL cards, and other radio memorabilia items; office expenses like printer cartridges, postage, paper, travelling to protect and save materials from destruction, and all the other expenses that add up over a year so that we can continue sharing material through our website. Governments are slashing budgets and radio stations themselves are focussed on financial survival and see no reason to meet these costs. That leaves it up to people like you and I and we know it's been a tough year for many people. When we know our 2011 operational costs are covered, we can also go ahead with plans to relaunch the website so that our volunteer editors can start adding a massive backlog of features, stories, research papers, photos and audio as well as a digitized catalog of thousands of QSL cards and other memorabilia. Please go to www.radioheritage.net and donate now, with 150 donations of US$100 we will meet 85% of the annual running costs, and even US$40 will cover one day. That's just 27 cents a day. Radio moves our hearts and minds, informs and entertains us and is part of the fabric of our daily lives. Hundreds of people like you have helped us with donations, buying books and CDs and contributing to our library and collections. Help us honor this trust again in 2011. This holiday season we hear of earthquakes, wild storms, floods, snow blizzards and civil unrest across the world, and keeping a radio by your side has never been more vital to our safety. Our radio guides can help save lives and with your help we'll expand them in 2011. A donation of US$100 from 150 people supporters like you will meet most of our operating costs in 2011, US$40 will sponsor a complete day. and you can do this today by going to www.radioheritage.net and using our donation button there. Thank you for joining us in 2011 and making it possible for us to continue to keep this website free to use for everyone, and to keep bringing together our radio heritage, popular culture and nostalgia for all to enjoy. [IRCA] MW DX from Enid OK, Dec 15, 2010 - Jan 2, 2011
All times and dates strictly UT. MW log editors are welcome to excerpt items, reformat and change to favorite timezone if necessary. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only; some caradio as specified; above 2 MHz on FRG-7 with 110-foot east-west longwire. ** AUSTRALIA. Check 120m almost every morning, but nothing from the VL8s has made it here vs the high noise level for several weeks. Dec 20 at 1337, I am hearing music with a YL singer on 2325. Only a weaker carrier on 2485, and unseemed any signal on 2310 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Also applicable to 1010, CFRB, of course: ** CANADA. 6070, CFRX Toronto: having welcomed the appearance of the Phil Hendrie Show on SW, lately I`ve been hearing stand-up comedy instead after 0600 UT, including Dec 29. Yes, the program schedule for CFRB at http://www.newstalk1010.com/schedule.aspx now shows: ``24-7 Comedy Overnight`` Mon-Sat 12-5 am = 0500-1000 UT, so it`s *5-6*, not 24-7! Unlike the originating source: http://www.newstalk1010.com/247ComedyOvernight.aspx http://www.247comedy.com/ On the website it`s impossible to tell whether this is based in Canada, but maybe CanCon does not apply to comedy broadcasting? So many `American` comedians are axually Canadian, it should not be hard to comply with that. But who wants to listen to five hours straight of stand-up in the nightmiddle? Not much else of obvious interest on the CFRB schedule, except they are carrying 60 Minutes, from CBS at the same time it is on TV, UT Mondays (but what about delays for stupid ballgames at least on TV?). CFRX also has CBS's Weekly World News Round-Up, Saturdays at 1000-1100 UT; or after current news? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 1570, XERF, Dec 19 at 0605 anthem by male soloist with orchestra, but not the Mexican NA, 0606 into Spanish conversation. Maybe the Coahuila state anthem plays after the NA at 0600? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 1580, KOKB Blackwell, here we go again. Dead air, open carrier, Dec 23 at 1444 UT allowing CCI to be audible from preacherstation, still at 1555; meanwhile // KOKP 1020 was modulating normally (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 1580, KOKB Blackwell had resumed modulating around 1830 UT Dec 23 following open carrier earlier that morning. But once again dead air before and after 2200 UT Dec 27 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. Finally tracked down the active 1670 kHz talking house, traces of which I have heard while driving around western Enid, Dec 30 at 2100+ UT. I figured it`s farther out in the NW quadrant, and so it is. Near Purdue and Oakwood I was hearing the swishy signal strong enough to copy the address: 3017 Falcon Crest; poor dixion of Greg Winkeljohn first made it sound like South Crest, no such street, but found the correct one on my map. Only way to access it was to circle around to the east and south and back west into a newish development. Did not bother to record, as it`s quite similar to the previous ones from same realtor, but did photo the house, with the 1670 sign afront: http://www.w4uvh.net/1670th3017a.jpg It`s also on his website, with a slide show of the interiors, price $439,900: http://www.enidhomes.com/homes/683286.htm But no shot of the radio station! And as usual, no antenna visible from the outside. However, there was this emblem embedded in the ground near the front door by the owners who want out: http://www.w4uvh.net/1670th3017b.jpg Mentioned in the spiel and on the site is a ``Jack Jill bathroom`` which sounds ominous, if you know the kidsong --- no running water? You fall down and break your crown? There were many more houses of a similar style in the area, but surprisingly few inhabitants stirring in our record-warm midafternoon, 70 degrees. But 3017`s neighbors were pulling up their Xmas lights. Driving away on caradio, losing 1670 within a semimile, and gone by one mile, while moving with the noise level increased. I suspect my tyres are generating static electricity against the dry, dry pavement (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 1521, quite a het to KOKC 1520, Dec 18 around 2345, and still but weaker at next check Dec 19 around 0145 on caradio. Presumed BSKSA 2-megawatter at Duba in the NW corner, the prime alert for trans-Atlantic MW openings. Pulling any audio separate from 1520 is another matter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 600, Dec 16 at 1803 UT, one semihour before low noon, weak signal on caradio inside Enid with Fox `News` Radio, 1805 ``WMT News Crew [Group?] Update``. This station normally does not quite make it by daytime groundwave, altho I can sometimes get a very weak SAH. Now it`s readable, with some fading, also co-channel underneath, so it`s winter daytime skywave, from Cedar Rapids IA. Then scanned the entire MW band, but nothing much else, even on the hi end at the moment. I need to do

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] KWKH 1130
Booming in here at 8:30 PM CST in southeast Houston, TX! Radio used was my Radio Shack 12-888 Digital AM/FM/Weather Band radio on battery power using its internal loopstick antenna. Just had a deep fade (approx. 10 seconds) at 8:36 PM CST, but came back just as strong as before. Their format is Country Legends. If I remember correctly, their tower site is north of Shreveport between US 71 and LA 1 near the community of Dixie, LA. I've driven past it dozens of times on trips to visit family in Ida, LA. 73, Steve Ponder, N5WBI -- Sent from my iPhone ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Format changes in Syracuse, Burlington, Pittsburgh
A few AM changes with the New Year: In Syracuse NY, Clear Channel is shuffling formats at its cluster. WHEN 620 dropped Fox Sports Radio just before Christmas to become urban Power 620, picking up the format from WPHR-FM 106.9, which flipped tonight to become FM Newsradio 106.9 WSYR. The urban format ought to stand out pretty clearly at night against everything else on 620, I'd think. For now, WSYR 570 is simulcasting with FM Newsradio 106.9, with a dual ID of WPHR-FM Solvay, WSYR-AM Syracuse, though the FM calls will change to WSYR-FM soon. Nobody knows yet whether the simulcast will be permanent or whether something else will be coming to 570 in 2011. In the meantime, if you hear Newsradio 106.9 on 570, that's WSYR. In the Burlington VT market, WCPV 101.3 Essex NY flips from classic rock Champ to ESPN 101.3, which means ESPN gets replaced by Fox Sports at WCAT 1390, WRSA 1420 and WFAD 1490 and Fox Sports gets replaced by more talk on WEAV 960 Plattsburgh NY. In Pittsburgh, Radio Disney replaces ESPN on WEAE 1250, which changes calls to WDDZ. ESPN replaces Fox Sports on WBGG 970, now 970 ESPN. And WWCS 540, the former Disney station, is running a loop directing listeners up the dial to 1250. More on all these changes coming later tonight in my NorthEast Radio Watch column at fybush.com... s ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
