Who's ever on 1215 measures at 1214.995 here at 06:38 UTC. Too weak for audio. Another interesting Tropical bander is just under 5055. Using various remote Perseus SDRs, I'm seeing it in Florida, Michigan, and a couple places on the west coast, including my own. ? [IRCA] Status of WVZN 1580 (was Robert Ross DX)
Is or was WVZN silent recently? DX from where I am was unusually strong to NYC-NJ around sunset tonight. Perhaps strongest noted in recent years. Might be worth a call to WLIM and WDAB... Later this eve heard 1140 Sydney NS about = WRVA. Tried some Newfoundland channels. Had country on 740 aimed that way, briefly. No sign of CBC on 540, 640, 750. 990 CBC was strong, most surely MB, with Montreal behind it. Re: [IRCA] Run Don't Walk
I'd say... From Burnt River ON sunset skip started when I had a late luch at 2:30, with Maine and the rest of New England blasting in. 1280 Gardiner ME and 1230 CT (the Spanish station there) both new, some nice relogs. Veered to the sw and I netted Oakland NJ, on my target list for awhile, and some relogs from NJ area I don't hear often. WOKV 690 FL popped in, and then it was strong to the nw, with MN WI MI and MB. Nothing new up that way but one of best sigs ever to 730 Dauphin MB, and KTOE 1420 Mankato MN. 1100 Dilworth mixing evenly early on with WTAM 1100. Evening seems slow but now that I've read the e-mail from the NS DXer (below) I'll check eastwards and see if I can nab Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. I did a TA scan and neted good sigs out of Algeriaon 531, 549, and some other stuff, mkostly good hets. Too bad I have to leave tomorrow (I was going to go home on Wednesday morning but want to beat the coming snowstorm). I relaid a wire on the ice almost due west. It's about 400 feet and it rocks. Non-directional, just sitting on the ice. I did that on foot but after seeing an open spot on otherwise thick enough ice I went out on skis today to spread my weight a bit a, when I checked it (for damage from snowmobiles). It's generally only a problem on weekends. If any of you do use ice on lakes this way, play it safe. Go on skis, test the ice for thickness every so often, and take something that you can use to grab into the ice to pull yourself out; and if you do fall in flutter-kick like a seal to help get out. [IRCA] Sangean ATS 404
I visited our local Fry's Electronics, Friday night and wound up in the row with portable radios. They had about 20 on display but I did not recall see any in the locked case, below. I noticed an orange / salmon colored clearance tag for the normally $89.95 Sangean ATS-404 - it was $2.90! :O Of course it was a misprint, right? I said to a salesman, "I want to buy this" and he said "okay" followed by "you know that this is a display model and it's been here for a while?" I said that I understood. He grabbed it and the AC adaptor and bubble wrapped it and I went on to do the rest of my shopping! That is a deal of a lifetime! A 97% discount! Too bad the $280 Grundig 750 wasn't $10! :) I will check back as they may be reducing their inventory. For you ULR DX'ers - is this radio is too big to be considered an Ultralight? It does not seem to have as good as selectivity or sensitivity as my Eton e-100 but it's still nice! Any online manual resources? Back in Victoria and I seem to have brought Kona's sort of lackluster conditions with me. My Sony 7600G, which had a display issue while on the Big Island, completely cured itself after I left the batteries out for an hour. I suppose I could have done that while there. Seems in an LCD display that a crystal alignment or mechanical thing can develop throwing the matrix out of alignment - all is well now. A weird time to get this, but I'm not complaining... 720 KDWN NV Las Vegas - 1/31 0009-0017 ELT Under WGN with a financial program during which the host talked much about buying gold. Gave out phone number as 877-341-2646. Made several trips between the 2010 and the computer (in my living room) to make sure that the webstream confirmed what I was hearing, and it did. Phone number turned out to be for The American Advisor with Scott Carter, whose website shows KDWN as an affiliate. Re: [IRCA] Oldies Format on 720Khz?
Hi. I haven't been back east in awhile, but I think CHTN used to have an oldies format, and I heard them regularly in sw Pennsylvania. Doug Martin - Original Message - From: "Les Rayburn" To: ; ; Sent: Sunday, January 30, 2011 11:36 PM Subject: [IRCA] Oldies Format on 720Khz? 720 Khz is more “open” tonight than normal. Even without the phaser, I can clearly hear an oldies station under WGN. Well enough to log song titles and times, but of course, WGN “cranks it up” during TOH and BOH breaks, so I haven’t been able to catch an ID. Any idea who the oldies format station on 720Khz might be?
