Every now then you get handed the perfect ID. Driving home last night, 6 pm, I happened to land on 1520. There were maybe 3 stations jumbling, when suddenly one topped the channel, a woman said AM 1520, WARR, crystal clear, then disappeared (I assume switched from 5kwD to 1kw crit hours). Not a great catch (265 miles), but a nice experience! I've emailed someone I know whos connected to WVNA and might be able to find out. But I wonder if it's them.. they lost their tower site some time ago. A Special Temporary Authority request filed just about 1 1/2 weeks ago indicates WVNA-AM is running 2KW Day and knowing most Directional stations get 25 percent power non directional would mean their nights are about 250W Watts. I've not updated my website since right around December 09/January 2010, but I didn't put a date on it and none of my material is time sensitive. If your website is going to be like WARR's in, you shouldn't even having one. Having one so oudated is more of an embarassment then not having one. Listened from 1350-1415 UTC and at first not much was heard but around 1405 UTC a few stations had audio. All audio and carriers were on the bottom part of the band with carriers on 279, 558, 567, 585, 594, 666, 693, 747 and 774. Audio was heard from 594-JOAK, 693-JOAB and 774-JOUB. I have CONFIRMED that the station broadcasting with the tones on 1590 IS NOT WVNA. They are broadcasting at only 200W with a temporary antenna and can barely hear it locally let alone elsewhere. Plus, I've been told... they havent been broadcasting any tones, intententionally or unintentionally. Direct from the horses mouth, sorta kinda. [IRCA] TT'er on 1590 running again this evening
Tone test on 1590 noted again this evening at 9:15pm CST, off at 10pm and back on a few minutes later. This is the fourth day it has been heard up here. If this is not WVNA then it must be a station close to Steve Francis in Alcoa, Tenn. who reported it last night as STRONG and in a N/S direction. Perhaps in west Georgia?? South of Steve are two possibilities (from old NRC Log) WALG Albany, WTGA Thomaston with a third, WQCH Lafayette less likely, which is more westerly. Finally, I hear it as well on the west coast. Clear visible on 1589 and 1591 on the Perseus waterfall. This is using a corner fed loop aimed to the west. I can hear it aurally, too, 0513 utc. usb clearer, sometimes at decent level for a few seconds. It's doing well!
