Re: [IRCA] 5-letter call signs
There's also a bunch of 6-letter calls in Mexico. I was compiling a list, but my browser crashed and didn't save the message, I've now hit my daily radio-locator limit (and using hidemyass.com as a proxy doesn't work for them - won't submit the query - any other free proxy sites i should try?), I'm too lazy to use my android phone (was a bit of work to figure out on google maps where to center the searches, anyway), and the FCC query last I checked a few hours ago was down. Anyhow, I do know that my local 540 is XESURF, and I also see a listing for XEABCA on 820 in Mexicali (as well as a XEVMS, so I'm not sure which it's supposed to be). I've noticed, too, that many Mexicans have a number appended on the end of the callsign. Most often it's a 1, although there are a bunch of XENVA2s in the FCC database, and there are several that are XE and 4 numbers. Also I saw at least one on 610 (forget the exact call) that began with XH. Last but not least, I didn't find XEKK when I was searching, but I did find XESHT1. ;) --- On Sun, 4/3/11, Rick Dau drummer1965...@yahoo.com wrote: From: Rick Dau drummer1965...@yahoo.com Subject: [IRCA] 5-letter call signs To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America irca@hard-core-dx.com Date: Sunday, April 3, 2011, 5:47 AM I can think of three right off the bat... Re: [IRCA] KSAZ test
I hope to be able to try for them. :) Last summer when I took a mini midday DXpedition to Cameron Corners, CA, I was able to get KSAZ at noon in August. It was faint, but there, when using the Tecsun PL-380 and Select-A-Tenna. I'd post a recording, but I just found out (checked a few of my earlier messages) that my attempts to turn some text into a link isn't working here. :( I really don't want to post a link that's upwards of 240-300 characters long, AND I don't feel like wasting a tinyurl (I almost always customize the link to better reflect what it is) on it, either. Re: [IRCA] KXXA-1520 WA
Pat: WKY 930 is still there with Spanish 24/7, mostly música méxicana. When I was a teenager, it was the #1 top 40 station in the Oklahoma City market. It had a better nighttime signal and more popular DJ than KOMA. One of KOMA's DJ in the mid-60's was John Ravencroft. He is best known as John Peel of the BBC. KOMA's most popular DJ was probably Dale Wehba, who'd left WKY for the job. Another, was Johnny Dark. One of WKY's former DJs, the ever popular Ronnie Kaye, can still be heard at mid-day on KOMA-FM. Today, it's the only decent oldies station in the OKC market. Good DX. Richard. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Getting to the bottom of 1710
Working down your list, sir... Have never confirmed that Top Inter is actually on the air; I asked Connelly since he's local, but was ignored, in keeping with NRC oligarchical tradition. It seems unlikely that it is actually on, given Soleil on the same channel, and I've never seen an actual log of it that confirmed it was Top Inter and not Soleil. Will check my peninsular comrades with respect to Dade City. Note that there are two list entries for the same location. Lubavitscher (thus nicknamed by virtue of being run by Chabad Lubavitsch sect) used to be easily heard down here but not for a few years, far stronger than anything heard there now. Fenique/Summum was publicized but never confirmed on the air at any of their alleged tx sites. When Lakay showed up, we first thought it was this but it was determined otherwise. All details about this one were derived solely from their website. Lakay is off, was audible here daytimes even but didn't last more than a few weeks, last log being 15 April 2008. I DF'd that one to Winter Haven myself. Soleil is confirmed active, 1709.983, tends to be the second strongest station on channel here, but generally buried by Celestial. Will inquire regionally re. KONK also. I thought that was on 1630 (see entry on link below). Celestial is the dominant 1710 station here, 1710.026 typically. Big Q has been known to make it into our area during its sporadic appearances, though I have yet to hear it myself since I'm rarely DXing at 0300 local. Most of these stations are somewhat off-freq but generally stable. Characterization of their freqs down to the Hz would be useful for IDing when signal strength doesn't support aural identification. This site has some Floridian 1710 references: https://sites.google.com/site/floridadxn/florida-low-power-radio-stations Terry isn't good about closure on the station entries however, i.e. recording then they disappear, so they don't necessarily still exist simply because an entry doesn't say they pulled the plug. Note the one entry about the WOCL/WKTK relay there; that's our biggest regional mystery, but it shows up very rarely. Undercover Radio (SW pirate) has used 1710 on occasion, audible here. If you plan to do so, it would be great to have a 1710 list online that is actually up-to-date and relies on something besides others' old web postings as information sources. You'd have my enthusiastic support with my own observations. 73, dc On 04/01/2011 07:02 AM, Saul DX wrote: I haven't seen these posted yet - web links with live audio to some of the 1710 stations we're talking about. Re: [IRCA] (Off topic) Help with FCC data base please.
Can anyone out there in IRCA'er land give me the FCC page link which allows me to put in the AM calls and get info back on the station? I periodically download the FCC information and sort it in various ways so it's easy to search. Try this link: http://www.am-dx.com/fcclist.htm I'll be updating it again soon. I was going to do it this weekend, but saw the 404 comments. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Getting to the bottom of 1710
I believe KONK was a bunch of part 15 AM transmitters. XEROK has been a regular here in El Cajon, CA, even with a co-channel local, but I just checked them, and there's something behind the local but it's too weak to tell what it is.
