I have not checked here but my brother in Middlebury, VT told me last week that he was getting somebody in Spanish on 990 around 0200 EDT. Since WALE in Providence is silent (again) I told him that WXCT was the most likely candidate. Hello to Bill in BC and the Group In answer to Bill's query. the local station that occupied 560 on the dial from Carbonear has since moved to FM 103.9 a while ago and now that part of the band only has a CBC outlet on 540 in Grand Falls-Windsor and of course the powerhouse out of St. John's, VOCM on 590 as locals. From our location here in Bristol's Hope, VOCM is subdued somewhat in strength creating an opportunity for more DX either side of the frequency. Just last night I was able to hear Spain on 558 and 567 once again. Also France on 603 is more commonly heard now. On 800 which is also occupied by a St. John's station , I just logged Spain on 801 for the very first time as well. Not usually on AM. What changes up reception is stations running day power for emergency, staying on past s/off if a daytimer and also those forced off the air as a result of the storm. Sometimes there are odd tropo effects on FM however. I don't believe it has any affect on MW other than knocking some stations off the air. But I have heard that there is good FM tropo DX prior to a big storm. Not much of an FM DXer myself, I'll defer to others on that subject. Radio Rossii stations 153, 180, 189, 234 and 279 kHz all had good signals this morning. Only two MW TP's were heard. 774 Japan, JOUB 1253 fair for a few seconds, heavy splatter signal, vanished. 1566 Republic of Korea, HLAZ 1246 fair with talk. [IRCA] SDR-IQ for sale
I'm going to sell my SDR-IQ but will first offer it here for a lower price: $275 + shipping. It works perfectly and is in a Hammond enclosure with a self-designed laminated panel. Picture available on request. I took out the serial connector which is not needed for normal operation - you only need it when using it as an IF panadaptor - to avoid cutting an ugly hole for the D connector. Anyone interested? I happened to be doing some overnight recordings last night on my Perseus, and noticed an off-frequency signal on 1510 (well actually more like 1509.82,and fluctuating, as you noted), which must have been KCTE. Didn't 'catch a call sign, but did hear the Hot Talk slogan. [IRCA] TP for 26/27 August
Radio Rossii stations 153, 180, 189, 234 and 279 kHz all had poor audio on 26 August at various times from 1200 to 1230UT (carriers were reasonable strength); MW was mostly pretty weak except for 1566 after 1230UT, which still was fighting with a lot of splatter. However, pips were heard cutting through the crud at 1300UT on 747, 774 and 828; maybe a pip on the hour on 1287, and very weak talk on 1575. 28 August, not so good for the LW stations; best seemed to be 189, and only other audio on 279. 1566 didn't seem to have audio until 1300UT, and not much at that.
