[IRCA] Brazilian night
Taking advantage of the tail of the mini geo-magnetic storm we had in the past week, I could experiment unique conditions (unique... for me at least)since I'm in this hobby full time (for five years). On the night of the 29th roughly between 00:30 and 01:30 (UTC), several Brazilians showed up along with a few usual Venezuelans and Colombians. Surprisingly, there was almost no Cubans except for the 1180's Rebelde heard at a good level. No Mexicans were observed. Spain wasn't good either. To be honest, this is the first time in the last months where I had something really exciting dx wise going on. Most of the Brazilians were personal first. As for Trans-Atlantic dx, Canary Islands and Western Africa were in as well. After taking time to review my hard disc, here are some loggings taken from that span along with some recordings. 621 KHz CANARY ISLANDS, ...En Radio Nacional, Excellent (00:40 SN-QC) http://www.quebecdx.com/mp3/canary_islands_621.mp3 670 KHz HONDURAS (Tentative) La Voz de Honduras, unid location - Man in Spanish with Honduras mentions (00:42 SN-QC) *personal first 711 KHz MOROCCO, RTM A, various locations - Trad Arabic music, fair and offset (around 20 Hz down) (00:39 SN-QC) 750 KHz VENEZUELA, YVKS-RCR, Caracas - Baseball talk in Spanish, good (00:40 SN-QC) 760 KHz COLOMBIA, HJAJ-RCN, Baranquilla - ...A través de RCN, fair (00:37 SN-QC) 780 KHz BRAZIL, Unid - Soccer play-by-play in Portuguese, fair (00:39 SN-QC) http://www.quebecdx.com/mp3/brazil_unid_780.mp3 *personal first 783 KHz MAURITANIA, Radio Mauritanie, Nouakchott - Man and woman in a Vernacular language, good (00:39 SN-QC) 860 KHz BRAZIL, ZYJ459-Rádio CBN, Rio de Janeiro - Soccer play-by-play in PP, fair to good and // to webstream. Re: [IRCA] Alberta TPs for 28 Sep 2011
Hi Nigel, I checked 1152 kHz via Melbourne remote rx, and I got the fq for 2WG Wagga Wagga as 1151.996 kHz. I have earlier noted ABC NewsRadio, Busselton to be on 1151.997 kHz, via Sril Lanka rx. The second strongest carrier in Melbourne was on 1151.999 kHz, maybe New Zealand. I understand that Manjimup isn't on 1152 kHz any more. I didn't se anything on 40 Hz high, checked also via Hong Kong and Japan. 73, Mauno 29.9.2011 3:46, Nigel Pimblett kirjoitti: DU audio on 1548 prevented a complete shutout today, so not quite as bad as yesterday, but that's not saying much. All the carriers appeared to be of Du origin, with 891 being the next strongest. With the lack of audio, I was left checking out carriers, and I was a bit intrigued by the two carriers on 1152, one more or less on freq, and the other about 40 Hz high. Nothing corresponding on the MW offset list, but DU signals aren't well represented on that list. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] TP for 2 Oct 2011 from Victoria: Much better mixed DU/Asian morning
Listened this morning between 13:08 and past 14:00 (I'm still listening to 612 Brisbane). Conditions are way up compared to the last few days with a mixed DU/Asian pattern. Mostly it was the lower half of the band that was propagating. SF 137, A 13, K (12:00) 4. Minor solar disturbances past and predicted for next 24 hours. Finally, 612 started to sound more like it's old self with great reception. Many new threshold audio signals. Once again my West directed corner fed loop provided all the results, with my North corner fed loop occasionally showing signs of life only. As always a 6 unless otherwise noted: LW: nada 576, 594, 603 612: 9 level at 13:47 Brisbane 639, 666 702: 7 level 738: 8 level at 13:46 774: 8 level at 13:49 with NHK2 over Australian cochannel (//612) 792: 8 level DU at 14:11 819: 7 level at 13:53 with piano music (and identical to Nick Hall-Patch's DX Fishbarrel display at the same time) 828, 837, 882, 891, 954, 1008 1098: 7 level OC 1116: 7 level DU at 13:39 1161 1566: 8 level HLAZ at 13:15 That's it for this morning, folks. Mixed MW conditions today--lots of hets but not so much audio, and mostly at 6 threshold level. A few came up a little more, even reliable 891 just a few times at decent level. 891 at one point briefly had a mix of the two DU stations plus an Asian station, all at the same level, before DU took over. Except for that, all DU, and later today to finally get any audio: 891 DU poor 1344 utc; 657 acapella chorus, like Swingle Singers (remember them?) poor; 738 DU talk very poor; 792 jazz piano poor; 891 5AN talk, 4TAB racing talk and an Asian female talking, all at poor level 1355; 612 music ending then female talk, very poor/poor; 891 finishing up with 5AN talk, fading away around 1412 utc. LWBC very poor today, Rossii 279 poor 1241 utc; 180 very poor/poor same time; 153 very poor 1326 utc. 1725 GA PNG beacon very poor (CW narrow filter only) 1349 1737 KUT PNG beacon very poor (CW narrow filter) 1347 Steve NE Oregon R75, longwires ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Walt, I just checked my TP's report on the IRCA Reflector and it was fine. The most question marks I use is maybe 2 back to back, usually just one. I have ymail and today a add kept popping up on the screen as I typed my report. Maybe this cause the problem? Thanks for the information on Croatia. I read Stephen posting and not the original posting of Croatia cutting power at night. They were one of the strongest European stations here. Thanks for the information. Walt: It looks fine here in Mozilla. What is your email client or browser (if you get your email off the web) ? [IRCA] Does KNX break format?
UNIDENTIFIED. 1070, Sunday Oct 2 at 1237 UT, I am hearing an Alleluiah [pick your spelling] song from E/W in null of KLIO Wichita, and with the fast SAH caused by KLIO being off-frequency. KNX Los Ángeles is the usual station heard this way at night and sunrise, but aren`t they all-news?? To make it more confusing, at the moment, KLIO is talking, but it`s soon on to country gospel music at 1240 (rather than the usual True Oldies format!). 1240 still choral religious music from the other. KNX program schedule does not admit to any such deviation, http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2010/09/22/knx-1070-on-air-schedule/ but if it ever does go gospel, before 6 am Sunday would be the time to do the least damage. Can anyone confirm? There is hardly anything westward from here except KNX, but I see that KBCL, 250-watt daytimer in Bossier City [Shreveport] LA is `Praise 1070`, so maybe that was it, still propagating. However, there was no sign of any news-talk station, and KNX should have been in there. [IRCA] 1710 khz log from Michigan 10/2/11
DXing from West Michigan - times/dates in UTC 1709.974 khz UNID Pirate - 0415 UTC 10/2/11 - Something different on 1710 tonight, faint but coming up to audio during fade-ups. Heard parts of Pink Floyd's Money at 0415 and repeated again at 0419. At 0429 a heavy metal song was played. At 0432 official sounding announcement ..the use of this channel... and faded. At 0451 it sounded like a documentary program with talk over dramatic music concerning the 1968 Thule Air Base B-52 crash and the atomic bombs it was carrying. Then into more talk of nuclear weaponry including many old newsreel clips about the atomic bomb. This was in and out of the noise. Still present at 0535 UTC with the same subject matter. By 0600 UTC, Radio Celestial owned the channel with music and later preaching on 1710.03 khz. A re-check at 0930 UTC revealed the same 1709.974 signal still present. This one was unlike any of the other stations I've caught here before. The frequency offset doesn't match Radio Celestial or Radio Soleil Int'l (unless Soleil has changed within the last year?) I never did catch any kind of station ID or live announcement. Seven distinct frequency offsets were noted on 1710 during this time. It sure would be interesting to know who each is. Re: [IRCA] [mwdx] Brazilian night
I will make a correction to the logs bellow. I'm quite sure now after re-listening to the 1310 clip, that this is from La Mega, NJ, not Dominican Republic. Too much excitement here I guess... [IRCA] Abnormal conditions
22:00 -22:30 PDT --- Nanaimo BC : A quick bandscan on the car radio on open parking lot away from electrical sources revealed abnormal reception conditions on most of the band ( 24 hour locals excluded ) except the regulars like KGO, KFAX, and the big Seattle stations. Virtually all Oregonians are either held back or skipping over this area as they are almost inaudible tonight . Other strong regulars are also weaker than normal. It is currently raining here but I don't know if that can affect reception. Is there some magnetic field action happening? Is skip being affected in other parts of the west and is anyone else noticing a weaker than normal night?
