I'm still carefully going over Perseus captures from the fine DX night of Jan
7. At 1900 CST I found a weakish ID on 690 (KTSM had faded down thnakfully) as
KRGS Rifle and another AMer mentioned. Then some ESPN pgmg.

I am wondering if they have a PSSA or if anyone has noted them leaving day

fine catch for me.

[IRCA] Kona TP for 12 Jan 2012 Not so much

2012-01-12 Thread cafe
Bit of noise this AM -- around 1500 UTC -
and apart from the regular Island sounds on
540, 738, 1017 and 1098 -
not much to speak of - lots of hets and hints of
audio on many splits - but apart from 1548
with great audio and pop music (assuming Emerald, Queensland...)

Normally, I would be hearing one top tier JJ station after
another after 0700UTC - so far after 10 attempts or so,
nothing.

Even with a manageable noise level, this is the worse Hawaii
conditions I have seen - even HF down here is a wash-out.
Have been lucky to hear one or two signals on 20 and 15 meters...
much, much more in years passed.

Lots more time for it to improve!

Receivers - Gary DeBock special edition TECSUN PL-380
Unmodified Grundig G3 (for HF...)

[IRCA] Kona TP day by day - 1440 khz

2012-01-12 Thread cafe

One thing I have noted, that is a little different,
is that 1440khz is occupied all the time by an Island
sounding station with Island music and talk in
a micronesian sounding dialect -

PAL indicates this could be Saipan - normally 300W at
night, they have a wicked signal early on and through the
night.

WBZ has no IBOC this evening, which is very unusual in itself, but they are

[IRCA] Unusually good skip on Thursday 01- 12 -12 after 0 hour (delayed report)

2012-01-12 Thread bill kral
Almost every frequency I tuned to early this morning had multiple signals
including the normal western clears.
A couple of particulars were 640 with usual KFI LA  with under and sometimes
over from an SS musica signal. Has another 640 switched formats to SS?
730 Van BC with faint talker under and possibly KBSU in Boise Id.
980  Van BC with competition from an under but sometimes matching signal from
an as yet unIDer.
The usual stations that are fair to good were above average and much louder.
Wednesday PM at 1600 PST also saw good signals as pre LSS skips in what I see
as a terminater skip zone in which certain stations( that don\t power down) in
the dark edge of the terminator throw a better than night time signal into the
still light edge of the terminator. Let me know if I'm making sense here.
Today at 16:00 some noise prevented me from catching similar conditions.

Re: [IRCA] TP for 12 Jan 2012 from Victoria: good reception!

2012-01-12 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
My SDR recording these mornings grabs samples at 0800, 0900, 1000 and
1500 UT. This morning, the earlier ones were very poor, but the
1500UT recording was fairly lively, especially at the top of the
band, where 1566 audio was fairly good, weak NHK pips on 1593 (not
the usual CNR1), and weak audio on 1134, might have been
Korean. But I also try to grab sunrise enhancement from 1530UT
onwards (local sunrise is about 1600UT just now), and this morning,
there really wasn't any enhancement. Audio levels had faded from
1500UT. A quick listen at around 1520UT (with no recording), seemed
better than 1500UT levels, but unfortunately there was no time to
listen just then, and no recording being done. So, likely an early
pre-sunrise peak this morning.

best wishes,

Nick

Having a quick listen this morning (no time for any details), but
quite good reception from the bottom to the top of the band of all the
usual first tier stations from Japan, especially. Wonder what others
have heard. 73,...Walt
