Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-19

2012-09-19 Thread d1028gary

Hi Walt,

Thanks for your comments on 972-HLCA, 1593-CNR1, the 1053-Jammer and 603 kHz.

Before this DX season started I wondered whether the declining solar conditions
would allow for much Asiatic TP-DXing excitement-- but it seems like at least
some of the Asiatics are pretty vibrant. The memorable 603-Hulun Buir fade-in 3
days ago was something completely unexpected in such an "off" season, as was
972-HLCA pegging the S/N readout on the PL-380 this morning.

When the vibrant South Pacific DX signals on the Oregon cliffs this summer are
added into the picture, it certainly seems to me that Medium Wave transoceanic
DX is alive and well this year :-)

73, Gary

Gary, I agree that HLCA 972 is doing particularly well this season.
Last season's star had to be CNR-1 on 1593. This year, barely
anything there, although the upper band hasn't really been very good
lately. Personally, the jammer on 1053 is pretty close to what I
heard last year. Very consistent in it's strength. I'm still
struggling to get much out of 603. Nick is doing much better in this
regard, it seems...73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC

936-Anhui), but 1044-CRI's Japanese external service was at a steady weak level

vibrant almost every morning-- maybe after some kind of power boost, or antenna
change?

Did you check as to whether 873 could be North Korea Walt? They
tend to what's heard here if not JOGB.

well. China seemed to have done well, with the Japanese, perhaps a
bit subdued, as were some of the Koreans. Australia was there, but
not really strong. Up to 13:36, I really didn't see them improve. I
heard them before 13:00, and past 13:30. It was China that seemed to
enhance towards and past 13:30. Top signal this morning had to be CRI
1323 in Russian, probably // to 963. Great signal at 13:18, and again
at 13:36. Really strong. I believe Vietnam made it through as well
on 873 which was not JOGB at 13:13. Overall, I was quite pleased this
morning. Many, many frequencies which were, as Nick calls them,
"burbles in the splatter". A little stronger, with a little less
domestic splatter, and they'd be easy pickins'. 940 from Hawaii, one
of my favourites was booming in as well around 13:30. No time to list
specifics. Suffice to say, a nice all around morning! 73,Walt

[IRCA] Alberta TP/DUs for 19 Sep 2012

2012-09-19 Thread Nigel Pimblett

An all TP morning here in Alberta, with TPs in general doing a bit
better than yesterday, with the top end showing a bit of life for a
change. The only DU noted a weak signal on 891, presumed from Adelaide,
as that one often makes it when no others do.

Today's audio:

567 - JOIK, Japan, with fair audio at 1254
594 - JOAK, Japan, making in to audio through IBOC noise by 1240.
693 - JOAB, Japan, better this morning, nearly as good as 774 at 1240.
747 - JOIB, Japan, along with 774, just like yesterday, reaching audio
by 1230.

774 - JOUB, Japan first reaching audio at 1230.
828 - JOBB, Japan, for some reason didn't get to audio until 1258.
873 - JOGB, Japan, at 1251. Not heard yesterday.
891 - Presumed ABC Adelaide, with traces after 1305.
972 - S.Korea, missing yesterday, but today heard weakly through the
splatter at 1242, and up to 100% copy by 1252.

1017- In Korean at 1248, so likely China with CRI.
1188 - JOKP, Japan, with talk by a man at 1240.
1206 - Weak audio, with talk by a woman at 1238. Presumably China given
the slightly low frequency.

1287 - JOHR, Japan, noted with a solid signal at 1250.
1566 - HLAZ, Korea, unheard yesterday, but today fair just after 1230.
1575 - Once again, just traces of audio from presumed VOA at 1245
1593 - Japan, only bits of audio, but enough to determine an NHK2 parallel.

than at 1300 until about 1320UT when things started to lift.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

612 4QR man in DU EE at 1352UT; this seems to be the one to look for in DUs
1287 JOHR JJ talk by man at 1335

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK man in JJ at 1332UT
747 JOIB EE lesson at 1328

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by

[IRCA] Sunset Skip cx are starting to improve

2012-09-19 Thread neilkaz
As we near the end of Sept, SSS DX opportunities should improve dramatically
noting that sunset on 9/30 in the norther USA will be about 20 minutes later
than tonight, meaning that target stns will be on day power and patterns when
nearly in full darkness making it much more likely that a good skip signal from
them can get out.

A few things noted from last night. (times CDT)

On 1100 KNZZ ID noted u/WTAM at 2000 and later at 2044 on a nice peak, Vegas'
KWWN with the Angels pregame and gone when pattern switched a minute later.
1140 had KNAB's s/off in there also at that time. A bit later on 1140 I presume
old C&W was KZMX.

KOFI was in early on 1180 with usual "news, talk oldies" slogan at 2027. Spokane
area showing well, as on 700 KXLX was o/u WLW on peaks with ads and a gal
nearly singing "The Seattle Mariners pregame show" and a KGA ID noted in the
mess on 1510 at 2100.

KNX was noted in the mess on 1070 at 2057 so, SSS from other So Cal stns still
on day power for a couple minutes should've been possible but I didn't note
anything and again struck out tryng for KSPN 710. Vancouver showed up somewhat
early at 2115 u/WHO but the only SSS from that area was some KNTS 1680 and
traces from Seattle 1000 and 1090.

CX later on stayed good to the west as CO's on 1010,1060, and 1090 noted in the
mix on night pattern and power and CKST 1040 was almost equal to WHO at times.
One wonders when CKST last switched to night pattern. KJME 890's bigband often
backgrounding WLS as well. At 2200 a KNTS EE ID was noted on 1680 o/u pest KRJO
and Iowa TIS and they are 1 kW at that time.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-19

2012-09-19 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

It was another strange TP-DX morning here as both the Japanese and Chinese big
guns were down somewhat in audio, but 972-HLCA in Korea pegged the PL-380's S/N
display at the 25 maximum around 1335 (for the first time ever). The newly
dominant 603-Hulun Buir again managed only fair audio (along with 738-Taiwan
and 936-Anhui), but 1044-CRI's Japanese external service was at a steady weak
level for most of the morning. The 1053-Korean Jammer continues to be unusually
vibrant almost every morning-- maybe after some kind of power boost, or antenna
change?

558 HLQH Daegu, S. Korea Presumed the one with poor-fair music in KPQ
splatter 1313
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Good Japanese male speech at 1303; best NHK signal
603 Hulun Buir, China Fair Chinese YL speech and music at 1332 over HLSA
603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea Poor strength music mixing with Hulun Buir
occasionally
639 CNR1 China Syncros Fair male-female Chinese speech at 1340 after KFI
fade out

Walter Salmaniw noted: " 940 from Hawaii, one
of my favorites was booming in as well around 13:30. "

Considering that I have been looking for a regular Hawaiian
here in Victoria - and not heard one since the 1970's! -
this is one I will chase!

Thanks Walter -
