Re: [IRCA] DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER
Tom, My comments are almost exactly like Todd's. As an Electrical Engineer (BSEE '75, La Tech) with a 'concentration' in Communications Engineering, I am very much interested in all aspects of radio wave propagation. I look forward to your forecasts so that I can use them in my all-band DX'ing hobby. Keep up the good work!! My logging from Saturday night January 12th during a HOCKEY game was WOWO 1190. With the help of one Perfectly Pedantic Powell, we were able to dig up some sports information and match it to what I heard. [IRCA] TP for 15 Jan 2013; Victoria version
For all the talk of conditions having deteriorated, this wasn't too bad a morning for Asiatics, though the high band was weak. Things were reasonably lively around 1400UT, and didn't really fade too much for the next 100 minutes or so. Of course, preparing for the day took up some valuable DX time, but I did manage to hear a few second tier stations that haven't been heard for awhile. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 774 woman in JJ at 1534; my display software said this averaged pretty good strength overnight, and finished off the last few bars of the s/off chimes with good strength at 1545UT 972 HLCA woman in KK 1532UT 1566 HLAZ man in CC at 1539UT reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 747 JOIB language lessons at 1415UT //774;faded up to good signal at s/off also 828 JOBB woman talking at 1402UT //774; also pretty good signal at s/off 1540 to 1540UT not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 567 JOIB man talking in JJ at 1414UT, but not // with what was on 594 at the time, so that remains a mystery 594 JOAB man in JJ 1403UT 945 man in CC //6125 1409UT Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 558 unID. man talking, but not //603, so maybe JOCR, but too much splash to tell language 585 JOPG weak JJ inflected talk, seemed //594 and 567 which were similarly weak, at 1541UT 603 HLSA? [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-15
Hello All, Nick's report of good TP reception at 1400 was followed by a generous sunrise enhancement here, resulting in several very decent Asian signals (especially for January). 648-Voice of Russia had its best signal of the entire season here at 1535 during its Korean language program, while 603-China and 738-BEL2 had fair signals in and out. Low-band TP's seemed to get more of a boost here than the high band big guns, with 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA still under their usual signal levels. There was some unusual variety in signals from China this morning, with 936-Anhui and 1035-CNR1 showing up for the first time this new year. In general, it was one of the best low-band TP sessions in recent memory. 558 HLQH Daegu, S. [IRCA] DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER
DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER- Solar activity is low as far as emergence of the number of new sunspot groups. Currently there are 6 numbered and 4 un-numbered sunspot groups. Solar activity is low (6 solar flares) as far as the number of new solar flares and their magnitude. The largest solar flare in the past 24 hour period was a small C1.3. The daily sunspot number (SSN) has been at 100 or higher for 12 consecutive days, currently at 128. The geomagnetic field has been disturbed for 2 consecutive days. The following are the 8 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals 33122121. A minor energetic proton storm >10 MeV (10+0) is ongoing for a second day. It is negatively impacting 630 meters, MF AM broadcast band, 160 meters and 120 meters on high latitude propagation paths. Very true here, too, Nick.
