Re: [IRCA] OT: suggestions on recording devices
For me, that's not the same as DX. Unless I've got a strong signal atop a channel, I want to get the best clarity I can so that what is there is audible to others I may share it with. That goes triple or more if we're talking about figuring out unids. In 2013, there's really no excuse not to record directly whether to an mp3 recorder or PC software. But as with all things, YMMV. Re: [IRCA] HUGE Mexican music-formatted signal on 810 (TN, MI or IN?) in ON
** U S A. 810, Jan 22 at 0655 UT, novelty song in Spanish, 0657 ``La Sabrosita 810, Radio Rama``, more music. Mexican loops E/W so must be very close to the border west of here. But none of the XEs on 810 have that slogan according to Cantú, IRCA and WRTH. Of two RAMA group stations, 1 kW XESB in Santa Bárbara, Chihuahua is well-positioned, but it`s a Radio Mexicana (BTW, 810 bears 15 Mexicans, second only to 1340 with 17; why? So much for once clear-channel XEFW Tampico, whose 50 kW day must plummet to 1 kW nite). So I google on ``Sabrosita 810`` and that goes immediately to WMGC in Murfreesboro TN! http://www.lasabrosita810am.net/inicio.html where there isn`t much except a UStream link. NRC AM Log confirms that slogan, 24 hours, but only 6 watts at night! Yeah, sure, 5 kW day power is more like it, or maybe 500 watt PSRA power. FCC AM Query on the PSRA shows a complex schedule http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=4050 with 500 watts applying only to certain segments after 6 am local (now 12 UT), otherwise 10 or 16 watts, all in deference to WGY. Presumably RAMA would not apply to WMGC, so maybe that is not the acronym I heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

There have been none whatsoever. However, I was just thinking about this today, and thinking about the stations that I'd like to see test. If not this season (what's left of it), then next season. I don't think it's a stretch to imagine that at least two dozen can be scheduled for 2013-14. [IRCA] unID on 820 with America's Morning News
Need to see if someone in the upper Midwest can check on what kind of programming WBKK-820 in Wilton (Bemidji) has between 0600 and 0700 CLT on the weekdays. Got someone here this morning in WBAP's null at 0637 CLT with a simulcast of America's Morning News. Checking the stream of WCPT didn't turn up a match, and CHAM is all-comedy. I did get a match from the webstream of WWBA, but no local programming at all between 0637 and 0645, when the 820 on the terrestrial side faded out. I'd love to think this was WWBA, but I want to see first if this might possibly have been WBKK (which has no streaming audio and no program schedule on its website) instead. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska Kenwood R-5000, Quantum QX Pro loop ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Hello All, The band showed promise during brief checks at 1410 and 1500 UTC, with interesting signals showing up on 558 (Korean), 603 (Chinese), 936 (Chinese) and 1035 (Chinese). Unfortunately sunrise enhancement (1530-1550) didn't enhance very much here, and only the regular big guns of 594-JOAK, 972-HLCA, 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA had much audio during this period. The second-tier TP's seemed to bail before the mediocre sunrise session, resulting in a fairly lackluster morning overall. Legendary DJ and TV host of Shindig!, Jimmy O'Neill, passed away on January 11, just three days after his 73rd birthday. During his early years in radio, O'Neill worked at KQV in Pittsburgh, and at KRLA and KFWB in Los Angeles. It was while he was at KFWB that he got his biggest career break, hosting Shindig!, a musical variety show that aired on ABC for almost a year and a half starting in Sept. 1964. I recall hearing him in the mid-1970s on WOW-590 in Omaha. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska ___ The NRC AM mailing list Questions? ow...@nrcdxas.org Pre-orders for the 33rd AM Radio Log Now being accepted! [IRCA] Victoria TP's for 1-22
Following up on Gary's report: Heard 594 Japan at it's seasonal loudest for a couple of minutes at 1530 -- As Gary described, lots of audio snippets from the top tier - 747, 774, 828, 972 etc and murky, but present, audio on 603, 936 etc... Tonight will be gathering for a mini-summit with DX super-stars Nick Hall-Patch and Walter Salmaniw -- so I will pass on the best regards of the group to them. 73 Hello All, The band showed promise during brief checks at 1410 and 1500 UTC, with interesting signals showing up on 558 (Korean), 603 (Chinese), 936 (Chinese) and 1035 (Chinese). Unfortunately sunrise enhancement (1530-1550) didn't enhance very much here, and only the regular big guns of 594-JOAK, 972-HLCA, 1566-HLAZ and 1575-VOA had much audio during this period. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) == Colin Newell - Victoria B.C. [IRCA] TP for 22 Jan 2013; Victoria version
It certainly wasn't a re-run of yesterday morning here, but it looked like it might be before 1330UT, with good strengths from the bigger guns, but things seemed to fade somewhat continuously from that point; unfortunately I started listening more seriously after 1400UT, and things generally got weaker from there. As Colin mentioned, 594 was probably the best and most consistent TP during the run down to sunrise. What was mostly missing was the second tier Japanese, but three Chinese made a reappearance. pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 594 JOAK various peaks from 1400UT to 1530UT reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 774 woman talking //828 1409UT; a few times later as well (including s/off at 1542UT), but 828 was more consistent today 828 JOBB woman talking at 1406UT; EE lessons at 1531UT //774; also pretty good signal at s/off 1540 to 1545UT 972 HLCA man in KK 1412UT not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: 1566 HLAZ woman in CC 1545UT 1593 CNR1 man talking //6125 at 1541UT, so a small sunrise lift on the upper band; my local noise had kicked in by 1530UT so not much chance of hearing things on the lower band by now anyway. Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : 567 JOIK man in JJ //594 1410UT 639 CNR1 man in CC //6125 1414UT; also at 1538UT when practically nothing else was in audio 747 JOIB various times //828 1017 CRI man talking //5965 1416UT 1287 JOHR? man talking 1544UT 1503 man talking 1542UT, possibly JOUK, but no 594 // available 1575 VoA? woman talking deep in the murk, said murk being caused by a multitude of carriers 1536UT Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 891 1458 1467 best wishes, Nick --- Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
