[IRCA] Monster TP Signals in a Lean Solar Year
Hello All, Although the recent TP-DX season has generally featured weaker signals (and less exotic DX) than the exciting years of 2009 and 2010, there were some interesting exceptions. Four Asiatic mainland TP's managed their best signals ever here in Puyallup recently, including 1566-HLAZ only three days ago. Two other Korean big guns (972-HLCA and the 1053-Jammer) routinely pegged the S/N display on the PL-380 Ultralight in early October; in fact, 972-HLCA's monster signal on October 5th was the strongest TP signal ever received here in 6 years of DXing. The other Asiatic TP reaching its best-ever signal level this season was 603-China (presumed Hulun Buir), which has apparently has had some type of antenna upgrade to enable it to dominate the frequency here recently. On the other hand, the Japanese NHK stations were real underperformers here this past season, with none of them even coming close to their optimal signal levels. For those interested, MP3 recording links for these best-ever TP signals are pasted below. They were all received with hot-rodded (7.5" loopstick) Ultralight radios and an 8" FSL antenna. With the exception of 603-China, all of them easily pegged the Ultralight radio signal strength displays. 603 China (Presumed Hulun Buir) Female conversation and vocal music at 1313 UTC on September 15, 2012 http://www.mediafire.com/?9w7h4ycoodlv0ga 972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Allan, Glad to see you've resolved it. We've had that one from Cappahayden. Can't recall the format when I heard it there. A few talk stations also carry music programming at times. [IRCA] Question for UK or International DXers
Hello To All, This evening on 1026 khz amongst the signals of Iran and Spain, another station which was in English sounding like BBC popped up from the mix with a male announcer played a song ( unknown in English) then mentioned Jersey a couple of times, however no BBC ID heard. It was only in for a short time around 19:45 UTC today. It soon vanished with the Iran & Spanish stations becoming even stronger. Is BBC Radio Jersey still operating on AM 1026 currently ? European Medium Wave Guide is still listing it, and only at 1000 watts. I know this isn't a lot of info to help and I'll likely have to try and listen for it in the coming days once again. Any help would be appreciated Allen Willie Bristol's Hope, Newfoundland ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Actually, that's my error, and thank you, Neil, for pointing that out. I even wrote down XEAU in my logbook and still sent the message here with the XEUR calls! :) One new logging since then, that being this morning in the form of KRFS-1600 in Superior, Nebraska. Rarely heard here, despite the close proximity. At several checks after 1400UT this morning, things were fairly abysmal. Then, a quick (10 minutes?) sunrise boost started around 1530UT,bringing several upper band stations to at least some audio traces. [IRCA] DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER
DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER- Solar activity is moderate as far as the emergence of the number of new sunspot groups. Currently there are 4 numbered and 7 new un-numbered sunspot groups. Solar activity is very low (0 solar flares) as far as the number of new solar flares and their magnitude. The largest solar flare in the past 24 hour period was a very small B2. Basically the background x-ray flux continues flat lined in the B range. The daily sunspot number (SSN) has languished below 100 or higher for 11 consecutive days, currently at 55. The geomagnetic field had been quiet for 3 consecutive days with the Kp (planetary) index in the 0-2 range. However due to a geo-effective (earth facing) coronal hole the geomagnetic field has been at unsettled to disturbed (Kp-3-4) levels. The following are the 24 hour 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals 4244. The Dst ranged between -53 and -12.
