[IRCA] TEST MAY 5

2013-04-28 Thread Chernos Saul
TEST NEXT WEEKEND - 1450 WKAL NY Rome

WKAL 1450 NY Rome is 1kw full-time, non-directional.
It's currently on the air doing
engineering tests. Airing the 1920s Radio Network until the main format is put
into place.
Big band type music from the 1900s through 1950. Music that will cut
through the graveyard channel noise. A jingle and ID at the top and bottom of
every hour. On Saturday night, which will actually be Sunday morning here in
the
eastern time zone, May 5 at until 0030 and again at 0100 until 0130, WKAL
will insert CW IDs, alternating between 1000khz and 400hz tones.

This is from Bob Carter, the engineer there. He welcomes reception
reports but asks that these be via email only.
Reports may
be emailed to w...@midatlanticengineeringservice.com

Our thanks to Bob for including the CW component into the test and for alerting
us. Please pass word along to DXers you know who aren't on these lists.

Re: [IRCA] When did KYAA-1200 switch to Imaculate Heart radio?

2013-04-28 Thread Patrick Martin
Mike,

It looks like they switched around the 20th then, about a week ago. I
noticed KYAA was Oldies a few days back, but apparently it was a week.
How time flies?

[IRCA] TP 28 Apr; Victoria version

2013-04-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Sparse but interesting this morning. A single point DU opening
(1548, fairly rare here), RR on 1323, and HLAZ popped in a few times
to give a more normal feel to things.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

1548 4QD first started appearing 1238UT, by 1240UT man and and woman
talking DU EE and just kept getting stronger as 1300 UT approached,
with the fanfare and ABC national news by woman, the news becoming
almost perfectly understandable in spite of horrendous splash from
1550. (there were moments where its carrier strength actually equaled
1550...amazing)

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

279 R. Rossii w/spacy repetitive instrumental mx 1211UT; heard as
late as 1226UT
1566 HLAZ preacher in JJ 1248; battling with 1548 for the last DX to
be heard this morning, and mostly winning due to 1548 having to deal
with horrendous 1550 splashboth still there and doing quite well
at 1256UT, everything else long gone. 1548 eventually won the battle
(see above)

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be

understood by a native speaker:

1323 CRI assumed, though hard to believe at this time of year. Woman
in RR at 1223UT; this can sound like FF when it's at the cusp of
audibility I find.

1287 JOHR man in JJ 1239UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

189 R. Rossii barely there w/mx 1212 UT //279
738 woman talking FF inflection 1243UT
774 ? man talking, maybe JJ inflection?? 1214UT
1053 KK jammer 1213

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

747 828 891 945 972 1098(huge at times) 1503 1611(a mess) 1629(rough)

best wishes,

Nick
