Re: [IRCA] TP 2May; Victoria version

2013-05-03 Thread d1028gary

We're in the midst of a geomagnetic upset right now, but it really
was only a few days ago (27 April) when I heard JJ stations on
1269. I plan to hear one or two more Asiatics as the days continue
to get longer. Watch me.

OK, Nick, I wish you the best. The odds are probably against you, but sometimes
that's what makes DXing fun (which just happens to be the secret behind the
booming Ultralight Radio community).

Besides, after having conducted a dubious DXpedition to an Oregon ocean cliff
site during a vicious windstorm last November, I'm not really able to call
anybody a DXing fanatic

Hope springs eternal Gary.

We're in the midst of a geomagnetic upset right now, but it really
was only a few days ago (27 April) when I heard JJ stations on
1269. I plan to hear one or two more Asiatics as the days continue
to get longer. Watch me. I've developed a tradition of trying to
hear at least one of the big JJ guns around the summer solstice;
there's only a few minutes of darkness path, but they are
possible. Now, little guns, that would be interesting. I know I
heard the NHK2 synchros on 1152 at the solstice (admittedly at the
coast) before I heard them in the fall or winter months.

best wishes,

Nick

Hi Nick,

I guess sooner or later, we all need to accept the fact that the
long-running Asian TP-DX season cannot continue forever :-)

It was psychologically tough for me to come to terms with this fact
about a month ago, but there's no way to go up against the
unfavorable gray-line propagation indefinitely. The good news is
that a new Asian DX Fall Season is now only about 4 months away, and
the prime DU-DX season is only just beginning.

[IRCA] WEMM - 1200

2013-05-03 Thread David Faulkner
Hi All:

There has been no sign of WEMM, 1200, Huntington, WV, for about two weeks now.
Usually has a decent level here. Noted WKST, New Castle PA on the car radio in
Athens the other day, but no WEMM. No problem with the FM. I wondered when
they moved from 1470 why they bothered to put their money into AM.
