[IRCA] TP 23 Sep; Victoria version

2013-09-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Perhaps not quite as strong signals at peaks this morning. Audio on
711 and 1314 were the odd ones for the session, and a strong peak on
HLAZ' Chinese broadcast. Oh, and a decent signal on assumed JOLF-1242.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

567 JOIK man in JJ 1310UT //594 which never quite got to this level
747 JOIB CC lessons 1350UT
774 JOUB wx broadcast 1315UT
828 JOBB man w/wx report JJ 1311UT
1566 HLAZ various times in JJ broadcast, but peaked for real 1356UT
after the pattern change towards China; man in CC at good strength.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

279 R. Rossii assumed, organ mx 1249UT
594 JOAK man in JJ 1310UT 1346
639 CNR1 man in CC, another on the phone, //981
972 HLCA woman in CC 1313UT
1053 KK jammer 1331UT
1242 JOLF? galumphing sort of mx w/oriental singing by man, man and
woman started talking before the piece finished, fast paced JJ, then
started singing along as song ended. HLCA programming is infectious.

1287 JOHR man in JJ 1357UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

189 R. Rossii male vocal mx //279 1318UT
954 JOKR man in JJ 1406UT
963 CRI woman in RR //1323 1332UT
981 CNR1 man in CC, another on the phone 1345UT
1017 CRI? woman in KK 1339UT , no parallel available
1314 DWXI??? woman talking sounded more Tagalog than JJ 1344UT
1575 VoA woman in SE Asian language 1314UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

189 R. Rossii man in RR //279 1303UT
603 unIDs female operatic singing, almost N. Korean 1328UT mixing
with man talking, then into female ballad which sounded more like HLSA.

711 unID man talking in splat 1336UT
864 unID woman talking 1344UT
873 JOGB man in JJ //774 1323UT
891 JOHK lots of male chortling and amusing voices //594 1333UT
945 CNR1 man talking seemed //6030 1352UT

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

531 558 621 657 702 846 918 1008 1107 1143 1188 1206 1251 1386 1476

Richard,

TP signals were seriously down here on the west coast this morning, but there
were a few die-hard Asian signals that still snuck through with fair to good
audio. Only about half of the typical big guns (594, 747, 828 and 972) made it
to this level, along with die-hard Koreans on 603 and 657.

774-JOUB is on a tough frequency here, with a Seattle semi-local on 770 usually
plastering the frequency. Have a nice day.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-24

2013-09-24 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Asian signals took a major dive this morning compared to yesterday, with even
several of the big guns struggling to reach decent audio. At 1300 the band
sounded completely hopeless, but as daylight approached a few die-hard Asians
showed up with fair to good audio. The general lack of good TP signals (and
good variety) this morning makes it fairly easy to test out this reporting
format commonly used by a distinguished TP-DXer north of the border (who
managed to post his dreary report earlier than me this morning):

Pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

747 JOIB Unusual fade in at 1345UT that shot up from the noise level
to a potent strength, then quickly crashed

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK Japanese conversation at 1338UT

603 HLSA Korean male speech and female vocal music by this
overachieving second-tier Asian at 1322UT

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/hwrlk7z071a3cs7/603-HLSA-1325z092413PL380.MP3

Not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

657 Pyongyang Female vocal music late at 1348UT

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/4qjazohgqicq7ek/657-Pyongyang-1347z092413PL380.MP3

738 BEL2 Weak Chinese OM speech at 1315UT
774 JOUB Battling serious Seattle-770 splatter all session
1053 Korean Jammer Transmitter seemed jammed up this session
1287 JOHK Japanese male talk in oppressive KKOL splatter 1335UT
1044 CRI Brief seconds of JJ speech above the noise at 1318UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

648 VOR Rising above noise level with CC briefly at 1310UT
1134 KBS? Weak music in CKWX splatter at 1342UT

Robert, compare what you're hearing to 6185 khz. If it's a match, then it's
XEEP. Radio Educacion simulcasts on 6185.

That used to be the case, but not any more. 6185 closes down around 0500 UT
(but the carrier may stay on for half an hour or so), and furthermore the SW
programming is not // 1060 when it is on. Note the two separate grids here,
apparently not updated since July:

XEEP certainly provides an eclectic music selexion, but would not expect any
announcements in Arabic! You can always check their detailed advance

Re: [IRCA] KWAK 1240 verie

2013-09-24 Thread rfoxwor1
Hello,

Not a DX test, but I have a KWAK 1240 verie from a frequency check, dated
11 April 1959 signed by Scooter Segraves, Sound Stage 124

The letterhead is a duck wearing a tux and bowtie, and quacking (kwakking?)
into a 77DX type mic on a floorstand, holding it crooner style.

The freq check was done on Tuesdays 0145-0200 CST and the station operated
0530-2200 localtime. I heard the freq check in New Jersey, I think just once.
This must have been a schoolday no less...maybe I flunked History to stay up
for this check...who knows? I was in 11th grade then.

Scooter was a well known and regarded NRC'er.

Is this what is sought, and if so, still needed? How may I help?

Re: [IRCA] 1300 REL station in strong KAPL?

2013-09-24 Thread Martin Foltz
Heard an ID for KAPL and their programming matched what is listed on their
website.

I will send them a reception report and see what happens. They didn't answer
in 2005. They offer bumper stickers for $0.50 each so I will send money and
a SASE for a couple and maybe that will get a response.

[IRCA] 780 is WTME ME / Brits on 909 1098

2013-09-24 Thread Chernos Saul
Thanks, Paul. Had I read my brand new NRC log more carefully I would have
caught this. Thing just arrives a few days ago, and it's looking very good.

Just nabbed my first two TAs of the fall season, Brits on 1089 and 909 with
weak but audible signals.

Clarksville TN on 540, relog.

Nothing hugely interesting. Off to FM or sleep...

[IRCA] TA carriers WCNA

2013-09-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
In spite of this morning's poor Asiatic showing there are TA carriers
again in Victoria this evening, such as 1215, 855, 945, 1422. The
odd one is 891 showing a definite fading pattern, and drifting back
and forth between 890.991 and .992 roughly.

best wishes,

Nick

Hello All,

Asian signals took a major dive this morning compared to yesterday,
with even several of the big guns struggling to reach decent audio.
At 1300 the band sounded completely hopeless, but as daylight
approached a few die-hard Asians showed up with fair to good audio.
The general lack of good TP signals (and good variety) this morning
makes it fairly easy to test out this reporting format commonly used
by a distinguished TP-DXer north of the border (who managed to post
his dreary report earlier than me this morning):

Pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

747 JOIB Unusual fade in at 1345UT that shot up from the noise level
to a potent strength, then quickly crashed

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK Japanese conversation at 1338UT

603 HLSA Korean male speech and female vocal music by this
overachieving second-tier Asian at 1322UT

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/hwrlk7z071a3cs7/603-HLSA-1325z092413PL380.MP3

828 JOBB Japanese weather report at 1331UT

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/clg45y8vo67uatd/828-JOBB-1331z092413PL380.MP3

972 HLCA Korean female-male conversation at 1340UT

Strongish het, no or near imaginary audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

558, 639, 693, 1017, 1035, 1143, 1566, 1575
