[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on December 10

2014-01-10 Thread Bruce Portzer
I've had worse mornings for TPs, but a handful of them made brief
appearances. There was no sunrise enhancement at all, and most signals
were heard an hour or two before sunrise.

Good - Mostly understandable to a native speaker, even if only for a few
measly seconds

No way today

Fair - Parts of it might've been understandable to a native speaker if
they tried hard enough
981CNR1, various announcements in Chinese, at least one had music in
the background 1151-1156

1575VOA, talk in SE Asian language 1354-1402, no break at TOH

Poor - incoherent mumblings in the noise and splatter
747JOIB, faint talk 1220
774JOUB, pips and talk 1200, sounded like language lesson
972HLCA, weak conversation 1152

2014-01-10 Thread Bruce Portzer

Dennis

Other e-groups have been reporting the end of Radio Rossii LW/SW
broadcasts, effective the night of January 8. So it looks like we won't
hear Russian LW stations ever again :(

At least some of the Rossii medium wave outlets are still on the air.

Nice going on the 882 log.

Bruce

[IRCA] New Loggings

2014-01-10 Thread David Faulkner
Hi All:

For the first time in I don't know how long I actually logged two new stations
this evening;

1250  KYYS  KS  Kansas City on top w/nice La X Superstation slogan Mexican
music on top in WTMA null. I've wanted this one for a long time and wonder if I
haven't been trying for them too late in the evening. Do they reduce power
during critical hours?

1290  WZTI  WI Greenfield well u/WHKY/WHIO others but clear, Milwaukee's
oldies 1290, slogan at 1700. No calls heard but definitely two here playing
oldies. Had a great signal out of WSSP-1250, so thought I'd try for this one
there they were.

[IRCA] TP 10 Jan, Victoria version

2014-01-10 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
There may not have been a geomagnetic upset after all, but things
certainly didn't sound that great this morning. A brief lift after
1600UT on 1575, but that was it for sunrise enhancement. The west
Flag is still crippled, but none of the other antennas were showing
much activity either.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

also MIA

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

even this was asking too much

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

738 man talking, FF inflection 1350UT
765 unID man mumbling 1527UT, not as good on the north Flag, but
couldn't null it with the variable termination either. Even the old
tuned box loop couldn't null this, so would guess it was high angle.
774 JOUB CC sounding bowed mx with the lively little bass line crept
through 1345UT, usually hear this just before the hour after the CC lessons

1575 VoA? woman talking, only really audible on the north Flag 1601UT

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

882 1017 1314 1566

best wishes,

Nick
