Re: [IRCA] Greenland returns to Medium Wave

2014-08-23 Thread Patrick Martin
Jim,

I knew Greenland was logged at NF, as I remember reading it. Greenland is a
toughie to log for being as close to the North American continent. At 5-20KW,
those are not flea power signals either. Alaska is easier to log than
Greenland, yet KBRW 680 took a lot work, especially with KNBR blasting away.
Maybe 720 might make it my way.

Not cheating at all, Chuck. Just in the right place at the right time!

KNR Greenland-720 heard here a few times in Jan-Feb 2009 during the last
  solar minimum.

It would be nice to hear them again - and try for 650 also - if those are
among the frequencies that are reactivated.

From Newfoundland, we (lots of people) heard 570, 650, 720, 810 and 900
  with not
too much trouble given no aurora. 720 could be heard well before sunset
  and I
think I remember someone getting a trace around noon local time.

But reception from Newfoundland is cheating a bit, right?

   Nick,

Thanks for the update. I would love to log one of those KNR stations.
  The only
Grrenland I have is the old AFRTS 1425 heard and QSL'd, but I have never
  logged
one of the others here. I believe Mark has heard at least one of them from
  NFD.

from Medium Wave Circle...

Good news from Greenland. It has been revealed a
few hours ago, that KNR is to return to three
Medium Wave frequencies following a lot of
criticism about the lack of reception of KNR on
the sea and outside towns and villages in Greenland.

Three MW frequencies are expected to return:

Qeqertarsuaq - anytime between October 1st and December 1st 2014
Nuuk - anytime between January and March 2015
Simiutaq, Qaqortoq – approx. June 1st 2015

No frequencies nor powers were quoted, but previously they were:

Qeqertarsuaq – 650 kHz (5 kW)
Nuuk - 570 kHz (5 kW)
Simiutaq, Qaqortoq – 720 kHz (10 kW)

And 650 kHz is of course the most commonly
reported KNR frequency reported in Europe.

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 23 August 2014

2014-08-23 Thread Nigel Pimblett
A bit of an improvement from yesterday, with a few Aussies joining the
Asians, especially after 1200:

576 UNID Very weak, with man talking at 1212, seemed DU.

594 JOAK, Japan Traces of Japanese through IBOC noise at 1157

693 JOAB, Japan Traces of Japanese at 1204

747 JOIB, Japan Talk in Japanese by man at 1154, //774

774 JOUB, Japan	Man in Japanese at 1154. The best TP signal again
today, reaching good levels at times.

828 JOBB, Japan Traces of Japanese at 1155

1116 4BC, Brisbane Aussie-accented talk at 1154.

1269 UNID Very weak at 1206, but what little audio I could hear seemed
Japanese. Second carrier on 1269.02

1287 JOHR, JapanPresumed the one with traces of audio at 1158.

1548 4QD, Emerald	This one needs a decent signal to get through strong
1550 splatter, but did so today with music program with woman host at 1212.

1566 HLAZ Korea Just like yesterday, very weak with a few syllables of
audio here and there at 1158.

1611 UNID Australia Just into audio with music at 1205

1629 UNID Australia	Weak, with bits of music sounding similar to 1611,
and sure enough checking the recording showed they were parallel.

1665 UNID Australia Weak, with duet by man and woman at 1206.

1701.07 R.Brisvaani, Brisbane Talk by man at 1212.
