[IRCA] TP 7 Aug Victoria version

2015-08-07 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Probably a good morning on the coast...oh, wait

Oddly, the hot part of the band here was the higher frequencies, not
the lower ones that Gary reported, and here things peaked by 1240UT,
and were pretty much done by 1300UT.

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

738 likely Tahiti, Latin sounding pop vocals 1148UT, woman in FF
1201UT, sounded like Indian pop at 1242UT

1566 unID man DU English 1238UT, lots of numbers, with individuals'
names, sports scores? Sometimes sounded excited enough to be live
sports. Mentions of "tackles" points to rugger? This was one of the
more regular channels, but darned if I could hear any ID while
dipping through the half hour or so that it was fading up to readable
levels. Didn't sound like 3NE, though a couple of mentions of
Australia. Is the NZ here really Chinese?

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

891 man giving numbers in DU English, maybe 4TAB, but at 1239UT
didn't seem //1539

1539 man carrying on in DU English, horse racing? 1239UT
1593 islandish pop music 1240UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

1161 man talking DU English? 1222UT
1314 man talking 1232UT, DU English?
1386 Indian? vocal music 1236UT
1422 man talking DU English inflection, 1225UT
1503 female vocal pop music 1226UT
1611 woman talking 1235UT
1674 man talking 1242UT
1701 big hum, woman talking 1242UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

612 621 675 702 756 828 855 1116 1179 1206 1215 1278
1296 1323 1341 1467 1476 1512 1575 1629 1638 1665 1683

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 7 August 2015

2015-08-07 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Although reception here certainly won't be confused with Rockwork 4,
there were a few tidbits for the first time in several days. All were
unID, though I suspect most were New Zealand:

1314 - traces of talk by man and woman at 1139

1386 - Very poor, but bits of music noted at 1141.

1476 - the barest of audio traces at 1140

1503 - Talk between 2 men at 1141. Sounded consistent with Radio Sport.

1566 - Traces of man and woman talking at 1142

1575 - Woman talking at 1140. Could tell it was English, but that was
about it.

Listened from 1130 to 1200, but signals all peaked around 1140. Local
sunrise is currently 1201. Several other strong carriers too, with 1413
being the best that didn't reach audio.

2015-08-07 Thread Mike Stonebridge
A presumed 1566-Benin carrier has been in here the past two evenings. Starting
around 22:00 MDT and ending around 23:30. Shows up well on the Perseus
waterfall in zoom mode. Of course never coming near to producing audio. Maybe
one of these days I’ll be able to positively ID it. It’s in again this evening.
Will check the recording later.

[IRCA] Oregon Cliff (Rockwork 4) Ultralight DU's for 8-7 (Conclusion)

2015-08-07 Thread d1028gary
Hello All,

New Zealand signals went on a rampage at the Rockwork 4 ocean cliff this
morning from 1250-1320 UTC, bringing astonishment to three fanatical Puget
Sound DXers (Chuck, Tom and I) who were lucky enough to show up on this date.
Although I had already experienced 25 DU-DXing sessions at this awesome site,
the potent Kiwi propagation this morning was a stunner-- even for me.

Tom R. was waiting in his vehicle as I drove up in the total darkness at 1145
UTC, followed shortly thereafter by Chuck. We had the entire turnoff to
ourselves, and were each able to set up our antennas exactly as we desired
(without working around "sleeping squatters"). Propagation took a while to kick
into high gear, and as late as 1230 it seemed like an average mix of NZ and Oz
might be the order of the day. Suddenly around 1240 the floodgates to New
Zealand swung wide open, and stations like 603-Waatea, 675-RNZ, 702-Magic and
765-Kahungunu (2.5 kW) were soon testing the crunch resistance of my $50
C.Crane Skywave Ultralight (boosted somewhat by a 17" Mega-FSL antenna). Chuck
came over and remarked how he was getting a DU carrier on every 9 kHz split
frequency he tried, including the X-band up to 1701 kHz. Tom was also checking
Kiwi carrier strength at the time, and seemed awestruck at the situation. I was
tuning around like mad, recording S9+ signals on 567, 702, 738 and 765, as well
as potent ones on other frequencies. After propagation fizzled out around 1340
we gathered around to discuss the experience-- feeling something like the
winning football team in the Super Bowl. Chuck remarked about how I should post
Kiwi signal MP3's from the session-- as if I needed any additional motivation
to do so!

[IRCA] Oregon Cliff (Rockwork 4) Ultralight DU's for 8-7 (Preliminary)

2015-08-07 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Tom, Chuck and I enjoyed one of the wildest New Zealand sessions ever this
morning as Kiwi propagation went into overdrive from 1250-1320, causing almost
every NZ signal to raise up to unprecedented levels. With the propagation peak
centered on the 1300 TOH, Tom and Chuck had ideal conditions for their
Perseus-SDR spectrum capture.

Although I was DXing with Ultralight radios and FSL antennas the Kiwi bonanza
was obvious to me also, with this incredible signal from the 2.5 kW (!)
Auckland Maori language station 765-Radio Kahungunu at 1253-- featuring a
"Waatea" Maori network ID. More recordings and a full report will follow!
