[IRCA] TP 28 Aug Victoria version

2016-08-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
A certain lack of DUs this morning, but a first appearance from one
of the CRI stations and of VoA on 1575.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

1566 HLAZ man in Japanese 1247UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

972 HLCA woman and man in Korean 1246UT
1566 HLAZ nice bit of local sunset enhancement 0959UT, fading up to
this level with man in Korean, mention of FEBC, 3 and one pips on the
hour followed by a jazzy interlude. Didn't get to this level again
until the Japanese broadcast after 1230UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

738 pop vocal 1236UT
747 JOIB man in Japanese 1206UT, //828
774 JOUB 1153UT man in Japanese //828
954 JOKR man and woman in Japanese 1305UT
963 CRI presumed with woman in Russian 1244UT
1053 Korean jammer, also local sunset 1000UT; at this level a number
of other times closer to local sunrise.

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

594 man talking, Japanese inflection 1242UT
828 JOBB woman in Japanese //774 1053UT and several times closer to
local sunrise.

1287 man and woman talking, Japanese inflection1144UT
1575 VoA traces of Yankee Doodle 1300UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

   702 873 891 945 981 1035 1098 1107 1116 1134 1143 1179

best wishes,

Nick

Yep, WJMP-1520 Kent was deleted August 1 per the licensee's request. Kent is
only 23 miles north of Canton, home of WINW on the same frequency, so even
before there were day pattern books, I knew that I could forget about hearing
WJMP down here. WINW, as you might guess, was heard often.

Hi All:
Just a note from recent travel. WMNY, 1150, New Kensington, PA, is, contra
Barry's list, on. Noted yesterday w/Black Gospel mx while passing through
Pittsburgh. At 1750 was playing a gospel countdown show. However, WGBN, 1360,
McKeesport, was not heard so apparently is still off. Also no sign of WAVL,
910, Apollo so I wonder if they aren't off again. Nothing else of note, but I
was wondering about one of my few unheard (here) Ohioans. Is WJMP, 1520, Kent,
off and gone. I used to hear them regularly at s/off in Port Huron but they are
so directional I knew I'd never hear them here. So if they're gone, I can stop
trying. If they're gone, that would leave me with 4 unheard Ohios, 1000 in
Parma the 1350 in Celina, 1380 in Lorain and the 1460 now in Cleveland. It
would also mean that, since I logged the old 1080 in Sydney just after we moved
here, as well as WPAY, 1400, WFRO, 900, the 900 Canton, the 1040 in North
Ridgefield and the 1500 Youngstown, I have now heard more Ohioans than are
currently operating.
