Re: [IRCA] LWBC (more)
At 0503 utc 3/15 utc, 171 Morocco is way up, weak/medium, nearing armchair copy; 252 Algeria is poor/weak. MW has a bunch of very poor hets but 1179 the best, almost approaching traces of audio. Re: [IRCA] OT 2014 Dodge Caravan radio question
I had a 1992 or so Caravan. Radio was good, but then one day it started hashing badly. No longer able to get CBL 740 which should have been easy from here in the day. I took it to an ace repair shop and the guy said it was "clouds". I explained that clouds cause nothing like this, but he completely dismissed what I said. Never went there again. Russ Edmunds suggested grounding the hood to the body but that didn't do anything. [IRCA] Battery charger
Hi folks. I'm wondering if you can advise as to whether a laptop power supply (nominally 19 volts) can be used to charge a Sealed Lead-Acid battery stack of 18 volts? I s'pect the supply should deliver 20+ volts but...maybe this will work? Thanks in advance! [IRCA] OT 2014 Dodge Caravan radio question
I recently bought a 2014 Dodge Caravan as my old 1997 finally quit. Anyway, I like the vehicle, but I found the AM section of the radio nearly useless (FM and CD are fine). The noise level was terrible with computer noise. Yesterday in checking the antenna was not too tight. I tightened the antenna and the noise is gone. The signal strength could be better. I have not taken the radio out to check, but is there a peaking screw (cap) like there used to be? Anyone know? I see there are AM boosters for car radios, but I presume that may generate noise. Any thoughts? The old Caravan AM sections were pretty decent in sensitivity, but not many listen to AM now. Thanks. [IRCA] 972-HLCA on Two FSL Gang This Morning
As Richard has reported Asian signals were fairly good this morning, with the Japanese big guns on 594, 693 and 747 reaching decent audio around 1400, and 972-HLCA pounding in at an S9 level after 1400. 1566-HLAZ was also around at a fair level, and 1575 and 1593 also managed weak audio. 972-HLCA was the overwhelming star of the session, though, with a double gain boost from two 5 inch "Frequent Flyer" FSL's at 1408 https://app.box.com/s/i6bw3p4lmp2k3qht954js6soqn71umul 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5" loopstick CC Skywave Ultralight + Two 5 inch FSL's A photo of this tiny FSL team tracking down the Korean in the soggy rain this morning is posted at https://app.box.com/s/n0wxgecneqdx3jttap908kf8k3dwau2u ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] Oklahoma TP DX 3/14/17
Thanks for the detailed TP report from Oklahoma, Richard. I'm always amazed at what you can receive so far inland. Conditions were also pretty good here, with 972-HLCA the star of the morning, reaching S9 peaks with a gang of two (5 inch "Frequent Flyer") FSL's at 1408. 774-JOUB is usually chopped up pretty badly here by a Seattle pest on 770 (KTTH).
