2017-07-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Thanks Nigel. Unfortunately, a slow evening out on the coast, just
the slightest hints of a 1566 carrier visible (no het audible with
the BFO). It might have been slightly better last night when a het
was barely audible, but not really exciting enough to report.

Your other carriers look like a very early harbinger of the TA season.

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] TP 24 July Victoria version

2017-07-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Mostly the JOUB show (and not a lively one) until about 1230UT when a
couple of DU's appeared.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

no

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

756 man and woman in DU English briefly fair at 1240UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

702 light vocal music 1225UT, likely DU by this time
774 JOUB man mumbling in a Japanese sort of way 1101 (any pips
blasted by splatter); continued in and out for several more minutes ,
then a reprise at 1150UT, pips at 1200UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

nothing else seemed to be Asian;
567 594 1098 1386seemed to be DU

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] The "Volleyball Net" Loop Antenna

2017-07-24 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I wanted something cheap, easy and light weight.. the heavier the wire is,
the more it sags over longER distances.. and this single solid conductor
thin gauge is the perfect size for threading through the hole in the
ALA100LN.

I have Colin Newell to thank for helping and encouraging me over time to
get this project done.
