Nice TOH ID from KMSD at 2200 MST on both the "regular" radio and barefoot ULR.
1060 is all presumed XEEP.

Paul,

Thanks for the tips on the outages on 1510 and 1550. I started listening at
6:49 PM (0049 UTC). As of 8:23 PM (0223 UTC), both KCKK and KKCL are still off.
I just got a nice CL ID from KMSD, presumably on CH power of 1 kW, over/under
WLAC.

[IRCA] Mostly Mexican [sic] MW DX to Enid OK, February 18-March 15, 2019

2019-03-15 Thread Glenn Hauser via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
These logs are excerpts from my daily
all-band reports, mainly SWBC,
also VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham,
which may be found in several
archives without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with
extensive news from many other
individuals and publications in DX
LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August
2011 are archived in this forum with open access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page75
[over 343,000 views! as of March 15, 2019]

All times and dates strictly UT. Rx:
mostly DX-398 with internal antenna
only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S
inside E-W or inside
randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as
specified; ICR-75 with 100-foot
E-W longwire.

UNIDENTIFIED. 2940.14, Feb 20 at 0700 UT, JBA carrier seems to be real
rather than receiver overload. Merits further pursuit, possibly second
harmonic from an off-frequency MW 1470+.

2940.14, Feb 23 at 0430, off-frequency with some JBA talk, language
uncertain, S4-S6 vs storm crashes as spring is nigh. Cannot detect any
signal on likely fundamental 1470.07 producing second harmonic. As I
mentioned in October, one known harmonic on 2940 is HJNT Cali,
Colombia, and this is probably it. MWOffsets shows three possibilities:
1470.063 USA WBCR (Alcoa, TN) 2017-03-30
1470.075 CLM Radio Huellas (Cali) 1100-0500 2015-12-15
1470.08 EQA HCED1 Ecos de Cayambe (Cayambe) 2005-07-04
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2940.133, Feb 27 at 0729, JBA carrier from suspected
second harmonic such as Cali, which would make the fundamental about
1470.0655. Or MWoffsets has WBCR, Alcoa TN on 1470.063; NRC AM Log
says 77 watts at night. Perhaps a DXer in Maryville/Alcoa could
confirm the offset and harmonic.

2940.129, March 1 at 0049, JBA carrier presumed second harmonic from
some LAm or NAm broadcaster on 1470.065 or so. Another measurement
March 1 at 0658 puts it on 2940.132. Others closer and/or with better
antenna gain and/or with less noise should be able to ID this (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re gh`s 2940+ log: ``Glenn, I checked for this and it
has a pretty hefty signal on the S mini-bev here [Spanish or English?]

However, I noted a much stronger signal on 2860 at the same time (2345
this evening) and was rewarded with a nice ID from Radio San Carlos, 2
x 1430, in Costa Rica. Clip of the ID is here temporarily:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/27hymrngdlozfon/20190301-2350-2860_RSanCarlos.mp3?dl=0

As I type this, I’m also hearing a strong harmonic on 2960 (Jay
Novello, Wake Forest NC, WOR iog via DXLD) WFBR Mobile? (gh)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 22 at 0701-
0708: No doubt I would hear more earlier in the evening, but
interesting that bedtime check this late is still getting Europe, the
western fringes at least. Sunrise at Madrid today was right at 0700
UT. 612, 621, 774, 837, 846 (Kiritimati?), 855(2), 882, 1008, 1035?,
1098(2), 1125, 1152, 1215, 1305(3), 1413, 1485(2), 1503, 1575, 1584.
On the R75 with E-W longwire so no DFing. (2) means at least two
carriers beating, or even (3) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 9 at 0413-
0422 on R75 with E-W longwire tuning at 9 kHz steps, 1 kHz below TA
frequencies listening for 1 kHz hets: 531*, 549*, 558, 576, 585, 603,
612, 621(2), 639, 666(2), 684, 693*(2), 729, 738, 747, 756, 774(2),
783, 801, 837, 855*, 873, 882, 909, 936, 954, 999, 1026, 1044, 1053,
1089, 1116, 1152*, 1161, 1179, 1206, 1215, 1224, 1296, 1305(2), 1314
(2), 1413, 1422, 1521, 1539, 1575. *=stronger ones; (2) = at least two
carriers beating. One of my larger harvests. A few more were probably
blotted by IBOC noise (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Re: [IRCA] DX Tip: KCKK 1510

2019-03-15 Thread Steven Hinman via IRCA

Hi Paul, thanks for the tip, I was able to pick up Milbank, SD this morning on
1510 also. Never had them from Castle Rock, Colorado before, got them on Subaru
car radio. It is possible that KCKK is one of the 25000 Xcel customers still
without power in the Denver area. Thanks, Steve Hinman, Castle Rock, CO

uses shows up multiple times a week at sunset.  This morning, I'm hearing
new log KMSD Milbank at (528am mountain) 628am central. sunrise for KMSD is
545am mountain, 645am central.

[IRCA] DX Tip: KRCN 1060 Longmont/Denver, CO

2019-03-15 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
I was notified yesterday afternoon that they “will be on extremely low
power for several days due to storm damage”.

The email said they would only cover the immediate Longmont area

Re: [IRCA] Exotic Sunrise DX Targets in Hawaii- the Japanese "Cheat Sheet"

2019-03-15 Thread Gary DeBock
<<< Looking at a map, Manila, Taipei and Hanoi are only about 600 miles from
Hong Kong and the paths are mostly across salt water. During the evening
hours, I would expect to hear some very strong signals from
Philippines/Taiwan/Vietnam on channels that aren't dominated by Chinese
behemoths. Many of them sign off at midnight or later, so your best
opportunities for long haul DX may be from 1 am until the QRM comes back
on at about 5 o'clock. >>>

Thanks Bruce,

Since this will be an anniversary trip with my wife, serious DXing time will be
probably be limited-- but who could pass up the chance to investigate the
Southeast Asian exotic stations at very close range?

I agree that the band should be dominated by China, Taiwan, Vietnam and the
rest of Southeast Asia, but a healthy dose of salt water around sunrise can
often work wonders. Unfortunately a lot of the exotic station sign offs like
918-RNK and 693-Bangladesh occur from 1700-1800, which is a very inconvenient
DXing hour in Hong Kong. Even the AIR track down trick that worked so well in
Hawaii (the switch to English news across the network at 1530 UTC) will occur
very late at night, when sensible tourists should be in bed.
