Re: [IRCA] CFUN 1410 call change?
Bruce, Thanks for the info. That's right, they were all news for a short while, then switched back to music. I believe KRKO did the same thing, changed calls, then bought them back. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] CFUN 1410 call change?
according to Northwest Broadcasters *As recently rumored, CKCL-FM 104.9 http://www.1049greatesthits.com/Vancouver (Chilliwack/Abbotsford) has been assigned the call letters CFUN-FM by Industry Canada. CKCL started identifying as Fun-FM on November 12, but was still using its old call letters last night during its official on-hour IDs. Team CFUN AM 1410 http://www.teamradio.ca/, which changed from talk to sports on November 5, has been assigned the new call CFTE. The historic CFUN calls have been in use by 1410 since February 14, 1955 when it changed from CKMO. The CKMO calls are currently used by Victoria's Camosun Collegehttp://camosun.ca/station Village 900 http://www.village900.com/.* http://members.shaw.ca/nwbroadcasters/recentnews.htm -- If I recall correctly, the CFUN calls did leave Vancouver for a while in the 1970s and went to a station somewhere in NS, no? Were they CKVN in the interim before getting CFUN back (on 1410)? ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Exactly. My notes show that from California, I heard CFUN in 1957, CKVN in 1969 and CFUN once again in 1988. Don't know when the changes occured as I had several periods of inactivity in that overall period. Re: [IRCA] CFUN 1410 call change?
As others mentioned, CFUN became CKVN in 1969. The call change coincided to a format change to full service, with an emphasis on news. I think the call letters may have stood for Voice of News or Vancouver News or something similar. The format didn't work out, so CKVN switched to album rock or an album / Top 40 hybrid. In the meantime, a station on 790 in New Brunswick had snatched up the CFUN calls. CKVN's owners later reached an agreement with the other station whereby money changed hands, CFUN-790 became CFAN, and CKVN beczme CFUN again. As I recall, after re-becoming CFUN, the station gradually morphed back towards top 40, and eventually became more of an adult hits station. And, of course, CFUN's previous call, CKMO, is now used by the station on 900 in Victoria. Bruce Rick Lewis wrote: Exactly.
