[IRCA] KCKM test
Oh geez. Of all the stations in the Tucson area, KWFM 1330 is my closest at about 3 miles. Not sure I can take anything to the bank, but I heard definite sweep tones at 0516 UTC and definite but unreadable code at 0524 (followed by sweep tones). Does this fit into what others might have heard? Threw everything I had at it, but the best null (such as it wasn't) was with my Tecsun PL-310 ULR. Thanks to Bob, Paul and anyone else involved. Re: [IRCA] KCKM Test
Russ, I'm so sorry about that, very disappointing. I learned the hard way a few years back during a DX Test that you have to turn off "Automatic Updates" from Microsoft Windows. My computer downloaded updates and did a hard restart right in the middle of a testing period. Now, I remind myself to check for updates *MANUALLY* about once a month. Automatic updates are turned off on my radio computer. Re: [IRCA] KCKM Test
Hi All: KCKM hrd here w/sweep tones, off-the-hook signal, siren starts & morse IDs, but music almost a total loss. Sweep tones were best, off-the-hook phone next, morse IDs barely readable, usual QRM from WYRD, WVHI & others. This is a very difficult channel here. Signal poor-good. [IRCA] KCKM test made it to Bowie, MD/ WWXL test didn't (was it on??)
Test heard amazingly well at a distance of 1800 miles from Monahans, TX with various sweep tones, code, other sounds, and some very distinctive music, faded in/out with 3 other stations out here (2 Spanish and a religious station), but very happy to hear this way out here, the test made it to at least WI, TN, OR, and AB, so nationwide! Definitely heard here, was a regular in Colorado Springs, CO where I used to live... Tried for the WWXL-1450 DX test all the way from 11 PM until 1 AM EDT, heard nothing in the way of code or anything, so gave up, doesn't sound like it ran... Original sweep tones after 05:01 really died down now. After 05:15 UTC, not much to hear, except some very week sweeps, if at all. Did it conclude early, or did propagation drop off? 12:01AM to 12:31AM Central time is the same as 0101 to 0130 Eastern Time (0501 to 0530 UTC) - I simply put it as eastern time because I'm, well, in that time zone. Perhaps the best way to do these announcements is the station's local time coupled with UTC time.
