Re: [IRCA] Noise Floor: Where Do We Go From Here?

2016-12-15 Thread Patrick Martin
That is why so many do DXpeditions these days. Get away from locals as well as
the noise.

I lucked out.. No AM station within 200 miles of me and if I can drive just
a few miles out of town, I get about as electrically/RF quiet as possible
as there are no power lines past the edge of town.

Re: [IRCA] Noise Floor: Where Do We Go From Here?

2016-12-15 Thread Patrick Martin

I totally agree with Russ. It will continue to go up. KSWB 840 Seaside went
with a 250w translator as John (owner) has the same issue, which FM doesn't.The
only way to get rid of it is to move out in the middle of nowhere, as some have
done, but that is not always practical. Here on the coast, my noise level used
to be almost nil, but the noise level has even increased more here. Too many
electronics that have noise.

I agree with Russ, the future isn't bright in regard to the noise problem. I'm
curious as to what noise will be generated by the wind turbines planned for my
neighbourhood.

Re: [IRCA] Noise Floor: Where Do We Go From Here?

2016-12-15 Thread Mark Pettifor

As a tropical band DXer (a dying breed), I just want to know how I can
get CODAR identified as "harmful interference". :^)

But I agree with Russ. I don't see how anything is going to change. The
IoNT (IoNT = Internet of Noisy Things) will continue to expand, as
everyone wants to be instantly connected to everything, and all new tech
is designed from the start to be "smart" tech.

I hope I don't sound too Luddite there
