[IRCA] TA carriers

2019-03-04 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
TA carriers starting to appear just after 0400UT in Victoria. 1089
and 1215 the "best"; still nowhere near audio. Others such as 855
882 999 etc. weaker, but poking up from time to time.

best wishes,

2018-10-20 Thread Nigel Pimblett

Only audio here is on 1413, and it's rather feeble thus far tonight.
Am seeing substantial carriers on 1575 (Farda) and I presume it's
Iranian 'companion' on about 1574.92.
1386 is about the only other carrier of significance, with 1458,
1089,and 1215 another step down.

 Hi Nick,
I believe I understand your ionospheric predictive methodology. It is possibly
related to the superior conditions present when I was recently in a hotel room
in downtown Victoria, followed by the subsequent downturn in conditions when I
was in what I thought would be a superb TP DXing location in Tofino:-)

Here's the 3-day prediction from NOAA

NOAA Kp index forecast 19 Oct - 21 Oct
             Oct 19    Oct 20    Oct 21
00-03UTÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â 3Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 3Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 2

Now, of course, anything might happen, but so

A quick sweep around 0310, lots of carriers -
the best being close to audio: 1503 1413 1386 1035 855.017 783.

Also noticed someone (not saying it's a TA) way off 540 - around 539.860.

[IRCA] TA carriers

2018-08-24 Thread Mark Connelly via IRCA
--- Begin Message ---
Listening last night - one of the few lower-static nights in recent weeks -
produced numerous TA's with Spain on 855 being the stand-out.

Most of the other bigger Spain channels were in and there was reasonable RF
from UK 693, 882, 909, 1089, and 1215.

The Iran buzzer on 1575 (covering UAE) was the farthest east thing noted.
Egypt on 864 was in and out. Not sure what's going on with Saudi Arabia 1521:
they don't seem to be showing up.

Mauritania 783 must be off still. I'd be interested in what others are noting.

I don't think Roy Barstow had it on his recent Cape Cod beach DXpedition.
Normally it would be a blowtorch around local sunset here.

Maybe both Mauritania and Sudan are heading to Bruce Conti's "Silent MW Radio
Countries" list.

Perhaps the power bill from such a big

At any rate, the carrier was not heard this

Re: [IRCA] TA carriers in AB

2018-08-23 Thread Mauno Ritola

Hi Nick,

last night at 0200 I have València on 1295.998½ and Birmingham on
1296.000 kHz.

Best regards,

Mauno

Nick Hall-Patch kirjoitti 23.8.2018 klo 8:49:
Thanks for that information Mauno.   I checked files from my  last
Christmas' visit to Khartoum, and it was not heard then.   Most of my
recordings were in the middle of the night, so I assumed it had signed
off after midnight.

Perhaps the power bill from such a big transmitter is more than the
government can afford.  I've heard that the economy is in rough shape,
with quite a bit of inflation.

At any rate, the carrier was not heard this evening.  When it is
there, it is very close to 1296.000kHz, maybe a little bit low. (and
that was not Sudan's 2016 offset either).

best wishes,

Nick

1296 hasn't been heard, but has been "seen".  It seems to fade out
about Khartoum sunrise.   Did you notice when yours faded out?

lots of bars on 1215 KHz but by the time I got downstairs, nothing. Using a

Can't compete with Paul, but have just now got a bit of the usual
rock from 1215 at 0525UT, didn't last long though, and not really
strong. After the almost certain Egypt earlier (only Quranic chant
on the channel), things mostly did a dive, with half hearted carriers since.

Re: [IRCA] TA carriers west coast

2016-10-13 Thread R. Colin Newell
Best signal here was rough audio from Absolute radio on 1215 --
quite a few good carriers but all getting based severely by mega splash,
local noise, etc.

1089 might have had some English talk for around 15s.

My N Flag also looks at my neighbours plasma TV so - there is S3 to S7
garbage across most bands
when his TV is on.

I have a 54" Bravia by Sony that you can park a Sony 2010 next to (within 2
feet)
and it will not interfere with anything. Plasma TV's are an abomination.

My neighbour, who retired a broadband over power line device, when it was
revealed that it was putting a rat-a-tat noise across the entire band
except ham bands,
would probably be open to a new TV if I talked to him about it -
Heck, I would help pay for it.

What we do for our hobby.

Re: [IRCA] TA carriers west coast

2016-10-12 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
The Flag here does look straight at 1410 Nigel, but there really is
only the faintest carrier being heard there right now, and I had to
wait for it to fade up. It would have to really powerhouse to
overcome the 1410 splash however.

1215 has had bits of audio this evening, verified as Absolute R. with
parallels on a couple of European Cloud-IQs (like being at the radio,
pretty nice), but it's really suffering from splash this evening, so
even a strong carrier isn't delivering muchbut it just did at
0418UT with rock music. and a bit of talk on 1089, and now a
woman in English on 1215 doing a commercial..

1305, 1341, 882, 1044, 1053, 1296 and so they keep popping up...

best wishes,

Nick

Any rental cabins nearby?

For us West Coasters living in British Columbia or Washington state, this
is an attractive and potentially doable proposition.

You are only 500 km to Russia to the West... you are 1/2 the radio wave
distance to Japan than here on the West Coast, 2000 km closer to Iceland
and so on.

It's a sweet location. A beverage would rock pretty hard there.

What are flights to Galena like from, I assume, Anchorage?

One more reason to get that N Flag up -- by spinning the dial on my VACTROL

I can actually "un-null" the TA!

That is to say... my W/NW Flag is NULLING the TA's.

The irony is not lost on anyone here!

Threshold audio on 1215 and whisps of carriers exactly where Nick describes.

All pretty darn weak on my W/NW flag -- maybe "detuning" the FLAGS

Ditto for Victoria, Mark. I often wondered why 1521 wouldn't propagate out
here. In Masset, where 1520 is less of an issue, I still have never heard
Saudi on this channel. In the great days of solar minimums, 1575 Farda was
here nightly for weeks on end. Actually local late afternoon, followed by
Europeans. ...73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC

Re: [IRCA] TA carriers...

2015-10-25 Thread Walter Salmaniw
Don, your comments on the DKAZ vs Beverage is very interesting! I, too,
was impressed with the DKAZ in Masset, although there was precious little
TA activity during my week there. It was, however, deaf on LW. I had
originally oriented it to favour slight East of North, but within 2 days,
switched it to SW where it shone! Since my last post a few minutes ago, I
did have snippets of audio on 1215, but it's now down to imaginary levels
again at 04:28 UTC.Walt

Plenty of carriers here also, though only audio noted is from France on
1377. 1566 is very close.

A lot livelier out here in Alberta. Carriers, many of them quite decent
everywhere from top to bottom. Only 189 Iceland with audio tho. the 2100
Eu wire best on 189, but outdone badly on the low part of the band by the
NE pointed DKaz with the difference becoming minimal in the upper portion
of the band.

1089 and 864 have been "best" so far, reasonable, but no chance of audio.

2014-03-18 Thread Nick Hall-Patch

Thanks for mentioning this Jim.

So far this evening, just 1215 has had any real pep, and the audio
traces seem like Absolute programming. 1089 has a carrier, but until
my local noise shuts down, and it will (a furnace maybe?), not much
hope of audio there or anywhere else.

best wishes,

Nick

I think that 1089 bears watching. Several in the northeast are reporting
VestiFM from Russia. And I noted it for the first time last night in
western NY. Other TAs were unremarkable, just 756, 747, 909 and 1215 were
audible, but Vesti FM was rising up and down behind Talk Sport. The sound
effects, speaker gender and cadence all matched the slightly delayed
VestiFM web audio. I think this must be from the Tbilisskaya site (east of
Crimea). Maybe they're running this with full power and 24 hours for the
"benefit" of Crimea and eastern Ukraine. Jim Renfrew, Holley NY
