Re: [IRCA] THREE NAIVE QUESTIONS

Pete -

The filters in Perseus (and most SDR's) are light years better than analog
radios. Sensitivity is adequate below 10 or 15 MHz but not good above that.
It's good at handling strong signals including long Beverages.

As for other radios, the current QS1R, WinRadio, Elad and RFSpace radios are
more or less equals of the Perseus. They will be a little cheaper, but it seems
they are not as widely used as Perseus.

1. Yes
2. Won't work with tuned antenna, unless you are only aiming to record one
channel. Requires a long wire, flag, or a beverage.
3. Yes, but I only have Perseus experience so I will let others respond

You will need a decent laptop and large capacity outboard storage unit for
Perseus files. You can record to your laptop or desktop, but then transfer
over to something else. I have a couple of 1 and 2 TB units from WD.
Got'em from Office Max (when on sale) or from New Egg by mail order. Why a
laptop? So you can DX from other locations besides home.

[IRCA] THREE NAIVE QUESTIONS

2015-08-08 Thread Pete Taylor
Not exactly hyper-skilled in the technical arena, I am considering buying a
Perseus and have three questions:

(1) Above and beyond its ability to record wide expanses of the spectrum, is it
an above-average receiver?
(2) I have a couple of indoor loops which obviously you tune for max signal
strength frequency by frequency. What are the Perseus antenna needs so the
whole band is at max?
(3) Are there others besides Perseus which I should be looking at for
simplicity or other reasons?

Thanks.
