Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a

the above, passing through

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could

612 man talking, DU English intonation 1502UT

774 man talking, Japanese intonation 1524UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged

Re: [IRCA] TP 12 Jan Victoria version

2017-01-12 Thread Dennis Gibson
I heard a few West Coast stations from the southwest coast of Maui (Kihei). The
strongest were KTCT, KEIB and KTNQ (the latter two are 50 kW diplexed). Quite a
few DU were heard on a rental car radio with dreadful selectively. 738 Tahiti
was a regular on an average radio inside the condo across the street from the
beach.

2017-01-12 Thread R. Colin Newell
What's interesting about this visit (from Kona) is the complete lack of West
Coast stations-- not sure if the doldrums effect the E-W path to WCNA.

This AM was the epitome of blah -- with a couple of huge standouts that defied
explanation. All Chinese.

At this hour, audio on 540, 621, 1098 - assuming all Island stations.

Even more lackluster. A few carriers, most likely DU, from 1300 to
1430UT, then very poor until just before local sunrise, when a
slight lift occurred on HLAZ plus a couple of carriers.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

not here either

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1566 HLAZ woman in Chinese 1545UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

 just HLAZ passing through

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

  702 738 891 1098 1116 all earlier and likely DU; 1287 1593 near
sunrise, and seemed to be Asian

Thailand makes it to Alberta? The best I can claim is weak male
talk on 738 about 1502UT, might have been FF. By 1530UT, the band
had died completely.

Why yes, there was a sunrise enhancement, but it started from
virtually nothing, so it wasn't up to much. What action there had
been previously died unceremoniously by 1400UT...

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,

not here, not this time..

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

1566 HLAZ standard restful s/off of the JJ program 1343UT. CC s/on a
few minutes later was a tad less vibrant.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or

594 JOAK man talking 1258UT, but pips on the hour barely there
972 HLCA? man and woman talking, possibly KK, 1552UT
1575 VoA? woman talking, possibly SE Asian language 1545UT
1593 CNR1 man and woman talking //6125 at 1546UT

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
