A morning much like yesterday, right down to NHK2 signing off at 1440UT, but
even there, JOUB was barely audible for part of the music box, and signals
overall were a bit weaker also.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

no

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling with splash or noise):

indeed not

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could
be understood by a native speaker:

not even this

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

594 man talking, Japanese intonation 1522UT,pretty much only appearance

1017 island vocal 1517UT, Tonga likely

1242 man in possible Japanese 1601UT

1422 man talking, Japanese intonation 1544-6UT

1566 woman talking Chinese intonation, interspersed with music 1614UT, and a
few other times in the next 15 minutes

1593 man talking, Chinese intonation? 1601UT, only single pip on hour in murk,
but sounded the right pitch for CNR1

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged
by splatter)
 747 774 828 972 1269  1287 1458 1557 1575 seemed to be Asian;

Quite a mess this morning,...apparently New Zealand through to
China. The NHK2 stations signing off at 1500UT, but not turning
off their carriers confused things further. Finally, everything
pretty much quit by sunrise.

Considerably livelier today, mostly from Asia. Low band was fairly
active 1300-1330UT, then a bit of a rest until after 1500UT

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

774 JOUB English lessons 1437UT; this one seemed less affected by the
dry period from 14-15UT

1566 HLAZ woman in Chinese after vocal music 1543UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

747 JOIB English lessons 1503UT and for several minutes following

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1314UT
828 JOBB woman talking //774 1302UT
972 HLCA woman in Korean 1547UT
1593 CNR1 man in Chinese //6125 1542UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be

612 man talking, DU English inflection, 1432UT, likely 4QR
693 JOAB English lessons //774 1439UT
711 unID. Strong carrier 1300UT, then a 5 second break in KIRO
splat yielded a man talking, no hope for language, pips etc. HLKA
has been heard before, so assumed under these conditions

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

Nothing on the upper band, and although there was a minor "sunrise"
enhancement, stronger and more numerous signals were generally heard
around 1330UT. Mostly Asian again, but some possible DU.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

747 JOIB briefly managed to put the splatter at bay 1523UT with woman
in Japanese. Hung in fairly well to s/off, though not at this peak
level, brief "NHK...hoso" mention by woman at 1540UT, anthem and
music box fading out after 1543UT. Also heard quite well around 1330UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

774 JOUB man in Japanese 1340UT, woman in Chinese; someone else was
fading up a little earlier as well, but too garbled to guess.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

567 JOIK woman in Japanese //594 1329UT, but a man in DU English was
also there and often dominant (New Zealand??)

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1319UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

828 JOBB woman in Japanese //747 1522UT; also heard briefly around 1336UT
891 JOHK man talking //594 1334UT
1017 jazzy instrumental mx 1000UT, then a female vocal, if Tonga,
didn't sound like a s/off

1116 sounded like a sports broadcast by man across 1000UT, DU English?

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

612 1242 1287 1566

An interesting contrast to this morning's post sunrise all HLAZ all
the time show, was the recording from a couple of mornings ago that
also had post sunrise DX, though in that case apparently, it was 594,
972, 1242 and 1287 that delivered audio, with 972 and 1287 being
quite readable at various times up to around 1700UT.

What a difference 24 hours makes. There's probably still things on
the recordings that I've missed, but almost all Japanese this
morning; 1566 was there, but tended to get lost in the crush.

Signals peaked before 1500UT, but still plenty left afterwards,
last ones heard around 1700UT I think, but I haven't got that far in
the recordings yet (just looking at the signal strength monitor).

Re: [IRCA] TP 22 Jan, Victoria version

2014-01-23 Thread d1028gary

Hi Nick,

603 HLSA? and China? brief burst of Beatles mx trading places with
weaker CC sounding talk by woman, 1540UT. Almost like some sort of
VHF skip, not there, then it was there, then gone again; I checked a
couple of minutes earlier, and there was a deep voiced man at poorer
level, so this wasn't as out of the blue as I thought at first.

The deep-voiced male Korean is a regular fixture during the late-evening KBS2
long set music programs (from 1400-1600 UTC) on 558-HLQH and 603-HLSA. Both of
those stations are fairly regular TP's here in October and November. A
recording of that deep-voiced male in one of his more vibrant moments (on
November 2, 2013) is posted at
http://www.mediafire.com/view/9vprz88eo6xxljy/603-HLSA-1434z110213PL380.MP3
