[IRCA] TP for 16 Dec from Victoria, BC

2010-12-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Was out of bed by 1330UT this morning, and conditions were OK; first time that
CRI on 1044 has been heard in awhile for example, and the Korean jammer on 1053
was not just audible, but quite listenable, if that's the sort of thing you
like to listen to.

But from there, it really was just slow deterioration, and by 1520UT, it was
like most other mornings recently, pretty dead.

So, almost everything noted was heard between 1330 and 1400UT, hardly sunrise
enhancement.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

828 JOBB EE nx at 1358UT

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK
747 JOIB
774 JOUB
1053 KK jammer 1357UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

648 presumed Russia w/mx, but never able to get // on SW.
972 likely HLCA at various times

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

873 JOGB // 828
945 CNR-1 CC pips on hour 1400UT, possibly mixing with NHK-1 pips
1017 maybe CRI at 1431UT, didn't stick around long enough to pop up a parallel
1044 seemed //7325 so CRI
1566 likely HLAZ, certainly before 1345UT pattern change, but noted later as
well

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

558, 846, 855 off channel, 936, 1008 SAH, 1242, 1287, 1323

best wishes,
Nick

[IRCA] TP for 16 Dec from Victoria, BC

2009-12-16 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
In spite of Bill's observation of improving conditions this morning, my
impression was of deteriorating conditions, at least from 1520UT onwards

828 and 1575 (seemed VoA by direction) had the most audio, reasonable but not
great by any means. 774 and 972 were back of the pack in readability, while
594 and 1287 were just mumbles. Good carriers on 1098, 1539 and 1566 all
seemed Asiatic, but no chance of audio. All these were fading erratically, and
often were worse than the above observations.

Better TP conditions at 0645 last night I'm afraid, and they weren't tremendous
then either

best wishes,

Nick

I checked at 1530 today and agree with Nick.
I heard some audio on 972 and everything else seemed a wash out.

More inclined to spend an extra 10 in bed or in the shower
than fiddle with a radio...
