[IRCA] WKVQ Test
I had remote recording running and was able to catch the initial sign on voice ID just following dominant KXEL's TOH ID and then a solid code ID using touch tone/dial tone as others have noted after Sleigh Ride. Re: [IRCA] WKVQ Test
I caught a nice Morse code ID followed by rapid sweeps just before 0203 EST. This was good timing, as hugely dominant CHIN went from news to music soon thereafter, and effectively drowned out everything else for the remainder of the half hour. Thanks for repeating the test, since I missed last year's due to travels. Nice to end the year with a new catch, as they've been few and far between this year... Tried out here in distant NW B.C. on Haida Gwaii. I taped the 30 minutes and listened mostly half asleep live, and didn't hear anything for certain. KXEL was definitely the dominant station, although I also had Seattle and a CA station weakly as well. If anyone has exact times of various code/test tones, etc, I'd love to know so that I can compare my tape, just in case something was there. The winds have been downgraded a bit to 60 MPH gusts for coast cities 65-70 MPH for the beaches, but still strong enough, if that works out. But we are going to be dumped on with rain. They expect around 3 inches for today on the coast. 60-70 MPH wind gusts are strong but not damaging, but you never know if they will come in higher, but at this point the low is staying offshore a bit farther. I don't want to have to repair my antennas. On reviewing all of the recordings, I also heard code ID's at the beginning of the second test, although much weaker. Otherwise, the 1539 het was the biggest problem, although WDCD was noticeable by format a few times. I was very fortunate to get the 0121-25 fade-up. Had there been a voice ID during that period instead of the music, I would have gotten that as well. I'll also add my thanks to Craig, Jim and Saul for this one! It's been a long time since I got 2 Tests in one season, and I'll have to be sure to set up one or both 2010's for the next one. Re: [IRCA] WKVQ Test
Yes, it was a great fun DX Test. I was surprised the difference between the 0100 and the 0200 tests. I could barely get the morse code during the first test. It was there, but I was wondering if I could get a QSL out of it, as copying the code was impossible, it was so weak, plus even hearing it with a trained ear wasn't easy. But fortunately, by 0200, the cx changed where WKVQ was topping the frequency! Code was easy to copy and even voice IDs and identifiing the music sellections was easy. It seemed like they boosted from 250w to 50 KW within that period! Infact I even called Craig back to find out if he had changed anything. He hadn't. He ran 10 KW ND both tests. Wow what a test. Thanks so much. Another GA station! [IRCA] WKVQ Test heard in Madison WI
Easy catch here in Madison WI despite the efforts of KXEL, which is by far the dominant 1540 here, to bury it. Most of the time WKVQ was just below KXEL in signal strength, and VID's were quite readable when presented. Morse code call sets were strong and clear. The presentation of Christmas carols, although welcome, reminded me that this winter continues to go on too long. :-( A big thank you to all involved in this test!
