[IslamCity] Names of Allah: Al-Basit

2005-05-25 Thread Sadia

AL- BASITThe Expander
Is there anyone who will make Allah a generous loan so that He can multiply it for him many times over? Allah both restricts and expands . And you will be returned to Him. (Surat al-Baqara, 2:245)
Allah grants spiritual and material abundance to those who believe in Him and who obey Him wholeheartedly. He removes the difficulties they face. Upon encountering any hardship, trouble, or sickness, believers take refuge only in Allah. As a reward for this, Allah eases their tasks while making things difficult for unbelievers.
The Qur'an provides many examples about this issue. For instance, Prophet Musa (as) and the Children of Israel were forced to leave Egypt due to Pharaoh's violence. However, Pharaoh followed them. During this flight, the Children of Israel, who were caught between Pharaoh's army and the sea, thought that they were finished. Yet, Allah answered Prophet Musa's (as) call, divided the waters, and made a dry path so they could escape. Allah also destroyed Pharaoh and his army, and made the Children of Israel their inheritors.
This was also a manifestation of the following situation: “Those who make pilgrimage in the Way of Allah will find many places of refuge on Earth and ample sustenance. If anyone leaves his home, making pilgrimage to Allah and His Messenger, and death catches up with him, Allah will reward him. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surat an-Nisa', 4:100) No doubt, Allah's promise has always been true—and will remain so—for His faithful servants. One verse reads:
Your Lord expands the provision of anyone He wills and restricts it. He is aware of and sees His servants. (Surat al-Isra', 17:30)

“…And whoever fears Allaah – He will make for him a way out – And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allaah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed Allaah will accomplish His purpose. Allaah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.” [At-Talaaq: 2-3]

[IslamCity] marriage on internet relation

2005-05-25 Thread Mohammed Irfanullah

Question :
I am a female college student. My problem is that I have gotten to know a young man over the internet. In the beginning the relationship was one of respect and exchanging information, until it turned into love. My mother rejects the idea of me marrying him, and she has threatened to tell my father about this relationship. I cannot do without him and he feels the same way, because he has told me that he will commit suicide if we cannot get married. I hope that you can advise me. I cannot be apart from him and he does not. Answer :
Praise be to Allaah.

Note – may Allaah bless you – that our great religion firmly warns us against forming relationships between the sexes outside the framework of marriage and firmly closes the door to the calamity of introduction programs that are propagated by means of newspapers, magazines and the internet. These warnings are a means of warding off fitnah (temptation and tribulation) and preventing love affairs which usually lead people to commit acts of grave immorality and transgression of the sacred limits set by Allaah – Allaah forbid – or they lead them to marriages that end in failure and are filled with suspicion and mistrust.
First of all, you made a mistake by entering the chat room before knowing what the Islamic ruling on that is. Then you made another mistake by forming a relationship and friendship with a young man who is not related to you.
Beware of making a third mistake by marrying him because he claims to love you sincerely and you are afraid that he may commit suicide!
Marriage that is not based on a sound Islamic foundation is doomed to end in failure and regret. A young man who has spent all this time forming a relationship with a girl through chat rooms and telephone calls is in fact a young man who has no religious commitment, modesty or manners, and he cannot be entrusted with the honour of the Muslims. His threat to commit suicide means one of two things:
Either he is sincere in his threat, which means that he is very weak in faith, because killing oneself is a major sin – may Allaah keep us safe and sound;
Or he is lying, which means that he is a hateful opportunist and a fool, as well as a selfish individual who cares only for his own personal interests.
If you were to marry this person, it would not take very long before suspicions arose which would lead to him losing trust in you and not having a peaceful or relaxed life with you. From his point of view, a girl whom he gets to know through talking on the phone or through chat rooms cannot be trusted not to form relationships with others. This will occupy his thoughts and make him anxious.
Finally, you should note that this advice which we are offering to you is based on sincere concern for you. You should learn a lesson from the experience of other girls who have fallen victim to love relationships and lost their honour as a result. You should give up this young man immediately and repent to Allaah and ask His forgiveness, and praise Him for saving you from committing immoral actions even though the means that lead to them are easily available. You should also praise Him for putting obstacles in the way of this marriage, through your family’s refusal. Start a new life filled with purity and chastity, regret and prayers for forgiveness, keeping away from the things that lead to temptation and immorality. Do a lot of righteous deeds, read a great deal of Qur’aan, and attend many righteous gatherings. With time, your relationship with
this person will fade, for it is based on emotions that are not based on shar’i guidelines or wise thinking. Beware lest the Shaytaan ensnare you and makes you think that you cannot forget or sever the relationship forever; these are just whispers and tricks, and devilish attempts to keep you in the hell of love and emotion, and distract you from the higher aims of sincere devotion and submission to Allaah and constant striving to please Him. We ask Allaah to give you a way out from your distress and anxiety

[IslamCity] O Muslims Be Courteous to Each Other

2005-05-25 Thread Alan Border

O Muslims Be Courteous to Each Other
The Holy Quran says “O You Who Believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former) : Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former): Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other; Nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames: ill seeming is a name connoting wickedness, (to be used of one). After he has believed: And those who do not desist are (indeed) doing wrong.”

Holy Quran
Chapter Al Hujurat 49:11

Visit New Qur’aan Site With Multiple Translations http://www.quranserver.com/

Commentary – Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Mutual ridicule ceases to be fun when there is arrogance or selfishness or malice behind it. We may laugh with people, to share in then happiness of life: we must never laugh at people in contempt or ridicule. In many things they may be better than ourselves.

Defamation may consist in speaking ill of others by the spoken or written word, or in acting in such a way as to suggest a charge against some person whom we are not in a position to judge. A cutting biting remark or taunt of sarcasm is included in the word lamaza. An offensive nickname may amount to defamation, but in any case there is no point in using offensive nicknames, or names that suggest some real or fancied defect. They ill accord with the serious purpose which Muslims should have in life. For e.g. even if a man is lame, it is wrong to address him a “O lame one!” It causes him pain it is bad manners. So in the case of the rude remark, “the black man”.

Comments – Mine
The above verse serves as a reminder to me as well. Sometimes in the forums I let my emotions get the better of me say things which I normally would not. Maybe it is part parcel of being a human being. Sometimes it gets so irritating discussing some issue with someone in the forum that some untoward remark comes out. Maybe I should guard against that in the future.

[IslamCity] The Boy and the Dog

2005-05-25 Thread adil naveed

The Boy and the Dog
Once Abdullah Bin Jafar (ra) was passing through a forest when he went by an orchard where an Abyssinian (Ethiopian) slave was working. Someone brought him his food and, at the same time a stray dog came into the garden, and stood by the slave, who threw a loaf of bread to the dog, which ate it but did not go away. The slave-boy threw it a second loaf and a third one, thus letting it eat the whole of his daily provision of food, keeping nothing back for himself. Abdullah bin Jafar, who had been watching this, said to the boy, "How much bread do you get as your daily ration of food?" The boy said, "I get three loaves everyday, as you have just seen." Ibn Jafar asked, "Then, why did you prefer a dog to yourself and feed it all the three loaves?" The boy said, "There are no dogs living round here. The poor creature must have travelled a long distance to reach here and it must be feeling very hungry. So, I felt ashamed to send it away, without serving it any
food." Ibn Jafar said, "What will you have for food today?" The boy said, "I shall go without food for a day, which I don't mind." Ibn Jafar said to himself, "People criticise you for spending too liberally, but this slave-boy is far more generous than you." After this he came back to the town and, after purchasing the slave-boy, the garden and all the other effects therein from the owner, he set free the slave-boy and gave him the garden as a gift.Source: It-haaf; also found in Virtues of Charity Part II, translated by Abdul Karim.Islam is the religion of mercy towards the creations and obedience towards the Creator. [IslamCity] Freedom, democracy and liberation means death, destruction and chaos.

2005-05-25 Thread Shaikh Hyder

Iraq debate - Imperial War Museum - 23 rd September 2004.

Freedom, democracy and liberation. These terms, as enunciated by Bush and Blair essentially mean death, destruction and chaos. Tony Blair describes the insurgents as terrorists. There is clearly a body of foreign nationals which has entered Iraq since the invasion and which is committing terrorist atrocities. But the heart of the insurgency is widespread Iraqi resistance to a brutal and savage military occupation. Cutting off somebody's head is a barbaric act. But so is the dropping of cluster bombs on totally innocent people and tearing them apart. At least 20,000 civilians have been killed in Iraq and many thousands more mutilated for life. We don't see the corpses or the mutilated children on television. The US invasion of Iraq was not only totally unjustified, illegal and illegitimate, it was a criminal act of immense proportions and one which will have profound consequences throughout the world. But
the invasion was also quite consistent with declared American foreign policy. American foreign policy now aims at ‘FULL SPECTRUM DOMINANCE' – that is the US Administration's term, not mine. Full spectrum dominance means control of air, sea land and space. It also of course means control of the world's resources. The United States has over 700 military instillations in 132 countries, including this one. It already has a vast military base at Baghdad airport. These bases are not there by accident or for ‘humanitarian reasons'. They are there to keep a stranglehold on the world and they will do it by any means at their disposal. The disclosures of torture in Iraq should come as no surprise to anybody. The Americans have been exporting torture for years. They have been teaching torture techniques to military representatives of various dictatorships at Fort Benning in Georgia for a very long time. Fort Benning was called the School of Americas but was actually known as
the ‘School of torture'. They practice it themselves at home, in the vast gulag of prisons across the United States where over two million people are held in custody, the majority black. Restraint chairs, where convicts are strapped and left naked in their own urine and excrement for days, the use of gas and stun guns, the random brutality, the systematic rape and abuse of young men and women – all of these things and more an affront to human dignity – are common practice. So torture in Iraq, at Bagram in Afghanistan, and at Guantanamo Bay are simply par for the course. That is the nature of the beast. But the US is not finding things so easy and the less easy they find things the more dangerous they become. But there is a growing resistance worldwide to this arrogant, brutal, complacent, destructive force, a force which holds the concept of International Law and the United Nations in contempt, and whose only vocabulary is bombs and death. The United States possess
more ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction' than the rest of the world put together. It is at this moment developing new nuclear systems which it is prepared to use at the drop of a hat. It is totally indifferent to the death of others and will murder anyone who gets in its way. It is the most feared, most powerful and most detested nation the world has ever known. The invasion of Iraq was an act of state terrorism. So it is Bush and Blair who are in fact the terrorists. I believe they must be arraigned at the International Criminal Court of Justice and tried as war criminals. Harold PinterSend instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

[IslamCity] Adam - Was Adam the First Man on Earth

2005-05-25 Thread Alan Border

Adam - Was Adam the First Man on Earth
Question
Verse 30 of Surah 2 of the Qur'an, tells us that when God informed the angels of His intention to place a vicegerent on earth, the angels exclaimed: "Will you place therein one who will make mischief and shed blood?" As we learn from the Qur'an, the angels could not know anything other than what God has taught them. How could they ask such a question, if there were no creatures on earth before Adam?
Answer
Your question is valid. Certainly the angels could not know unless God had imparted to them the information, or they might have witnessed something taking place. When they described mankind as creature who are likely to make mischief and shed blood, their knowledge could only have come through either of these two methods. It may be that there were on earth creatures similar to mankind who perpetrated the same sort of mischief and shed blood as human beings do. On the other hand, God might have informed the angels of the nature of His new creation. Whichever may be the case, the question put by the angels relies on confirmed information. There is nothing in Islamic teachings, which excludes the possibility of some other type of creation having populated the earth prior to the creation of man. Nor do we need to exclude the possibility of other
species of creation living in other planets in our own solar system or in other solar systems or other galaxies. The universe is so vast that our minds cannot envisage how far its outer limits are. When we speak of stars being millions of light years away from us, we are talking in astronomical figures, which are not easy to imagine. It is only to be expected that God, the Creator, may have placed many other types of creation in different planets and stars. That indeed fits with His greatness. That we know nothing about them is only due to our limited knowledge. If it so happens that in future, we may come in contact with any such creatures, that should only strengthen our faith in God, the Creator of all worlds.

[IslamCity] Confirmation of Koran Desecration, Abuse Torture of Muslim Prisoners

Confirmation of Koran Desecration, Abuse Torture of Muslim Prisoners
by Hussain Khan
(Wednesday 18 May 2005)
http://world.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/14981/
Hussain Khan, a free-lance writer, contributed this article to Media Monitors Network (MMN) from Tokyo, Japan.

"While such an enormous data and evidence is openly available, the Bush Administration has reported to the United Nations that it is not violating any UN conventions against torture."

On a Koran desecration report in Newsweek, when demonstrations erupted in Afghanistan and started to spread in other Muslim countries and when even the officials of Muslim countries, like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and others, which have friendly relations with USA, started expressing their anger and displeasure with the US government, General Myers of US military chose to express that no such incident occurred at all at Guantanamo. Muslims were skeptic about this announcement. Then came denials from the Newsweek. Still Muslims remained doubtful about the real truth behind these denials. US Secretary of State and other officials issued statements about the sanctity of the Koran. But the Muslims are looking on all these as US attempts to whitewash the entire issue. As a result they have announced holding of peaceful demonstrations all over the world on May 26. Had the
US Military found out the real culprits and given them exemplary punishments publicly, it would have saved US image. and might have brought en end to Muslim anger and the global demonstrations.

Why Muslims have dismissed all these denial reports? It may be because that confirmation reports of Koran desecration have also appeared earlier in other prestigious US newspapers like The New York Times as well. Neil A. Lewis and Eric Schmitt have published a report earlier on May 5, 2005 in the said newspaper confirming the fact that Koran was desecrated at Guantanamo. They have published a photograph of a recently released detainee Mr. Nasser Nijer Naser al-Mutairi, who is now in Kuwait. After interviewing him, they have reported that there
were three major hunger strikes as a protest against guards handling of copies of the Koran, which had been tossed into a pile and stepped on it. The Times also got the accounts of hunger strikes confirmed later by interviewing a former interrogator at Guantanamo

They have also reported that a senior officer also delivered an apology over the camp's loudspeaker system and that apology was also translated for the detainees in the camp. But the question arises that if three hunger strikes by detainees is a confirmed fact, were the apologies delivered each time? If yes, then there is no weight in such apologies. You continue to desecrate Koran repeatedly and then try to whitewash the harm done by it, just by delivering an apology each time. It shows there was no sincerity in these apologies. If the apology would have been sincere, Koran would not have been desecrated repeatedly. This compelled detainees to hold hunger strikes again and again. And this fact of repeated hunger strikes is confirmed by a former interrogator as well.

In addition to Koran desecration and the ridicule of Muslim prisoners’ religion, a lot of other kinds of prisoner abuse and torture has also taken place on a very large scale in US prisons. Who is responsible for all this state of affairs? American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has held not only the top Generals but also the US Defense Minister, Donald Rumsfeld, responsible for the atrocities on the prisoners in Iraq and Guantanamo and has filed a case against him and the top Generals. One of them, former Brigadier-General Karpinsky, has already been demoted by President Bush to the rank of Colonel, but it was more due to her shop-lifting wrongdoings rather than her negligence of duty regarding prisoner abuse.

In a New York Times Book Review of a book by Mark Danner on "Terror And Torture", the reviewer has held Bush himself responsible for all these incidents of torture, prison abuse and the ridicule of prisoners' religion: Islam. President Bush declared that Al-Qaida prisoners will not be treated under Geneva Conventions. He declared them just "unlawful combatants." They would be treated humanely but that treatment would be subject to "military necessity" This "military necessity” was an open license for the military interrogators to unleash all kinds of cruelty and torture on the prisoners who were not protected by Geneva Conventions under
President Bush's orders. In the name of intelligence, the prisoners were tortured so cruelly that it resulted in 23 deaths under US custody. The military has investigated only 5 such deaths and confirmed that these deaths occurred due to extreme unbearable torture.

A group of health professionals, Physicians for Human Rights have released a report contesting military claims that these abuses were aberrations for which soldiers have been already disciplined. Their

[IslamCity] O Muslims Avoid Suspicion Among Yourselves

2005-05-25 Thread Alan Border

In the Name of God – Most Gracious Most Merciful
Assalaamu ‘Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuhu
May the Peace, Mercy Blessings of God Almighty Be Upon You All
O Muslims Avoid Suspicion Among Yourselves
The Holy Quran says “O You Who Believe Avoid suspicion as much (as possible) : for suspicion in some cases is a sin : And spy not on each other, Nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother, you would abhor it. But fear Allah : For Allah is Oft-returning, Most Merciful”.

Holy Quran
Chapter Al Hujurat 49:12

Commentary – Abdullah Yusuf Ali
Most kinds of suspicion are baseless to be avoided, some are crimes in themselves : for they do cruel injustice to innocent men women. Spying or enquiry too curiously into other people’s affairs means either idle curiosity is therefore futile, or suspicion carried a stage further, which almost amounts to sin. Back biting also is a brood of the same germ. It may be either futile but all the same mischievous or it may be possessed with malice, in which case it is a sin added to sin.

No one would like even to think of such a abomination as eating the flesh of his brother. But when the brother, the flesh is carrion, abomination is added to abomination. In the same way we are asked to refrain from hurting people’s feelings when they are present; how much worse is it when we say things, true or false, when they are absent.

Protesters heckled Laura Bush during her visit to religious sites in
Jerusalem, part of a Mideast tour meant to defuse growing
anti-American sentiment in the region.

As she approached the Dome of the Rock in the Haram al-Sharif (Noble
Sanctuary) on Sunday, Muslim worshippers shouted, How dare you come
in here, and why are you hassling Muslims?

As she entered the Noble Sanctuary, one man said, None of you belongs
in here.

Israeli police formed a human chain around Bush, pressing together to
push away protesters.

Anti-American sentiment is running high in the Middle East over a
variety of factors, including a recent magazine report - since
retracted - about US soldiers desecrating the Quran.

We in principle don't reject anyone's visit to the Al Aqsa Mosque
(compound), but we see in the visit of Mrs Bush an attempt to
whitewash the face of the United States, after the crimes that the
American interrogators had committed when they desecrated the Quran,
the Hamas movement said in a statement on its website.

US denial

US officials have said they found nothing to substantiate the Newsweek
report of interrogators desecrating the Quran at the detention centre
in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

But some remain convinced that the desecration happened and that the
US government forced Newsweek to back down.

-
We see in the visit of Mrs Bush an attempt to whitewash the face of

Hamas statement
-

Adnan Husseini, director of the Islamic Trust that administers the
Haram al-Sharif, said Bush tried to downplay the heckling, saying it
could have happened anywhere.

Husseini said he told her he hoped President Bush would exert pressure
to achieve peace in the Holy Land, for without it, there will be no
peace or stability in the area.

Earlier, Laura Bush visited the nearby Western Wall of the Haram
al-Sharif, a site regarded as holy by Jews, tucking a note with a
personal request to God into one of its cracks, following Jewish custom.

There, too, her visit touched off protests, with about 40
demonstrators demanding the release of convicted Israeli spy Jonathan
Pollard, shouting, Free Pollard now.

Pollard is serving a life sentence in a US prison.

Top priority

The next stop was the West Bank town of Jericho, where she met eight
prominent Palestinian women, including Cabinet ministers and legislators.

The women said they told Bush the top priority was to pressure Israel
to lift travel restrictions and roadblocks that disrupt life in the
Palestinian areas.

The network of roadblocks in the West Bank and Gaza Strip has meant
that ordinary Palestinians are subjected to long daily waits and
humiliation at the hands of Israeli occupation forces.

The women, including legislator Hanan Ashrawi, said they also told
Bush the US had to take a more active role in trying to end Israeli
occupation and creating a Palestinian state.

Protesters Besiege Laura Bush During Jerusalem Visit

Protesters besieged Laura Bush during her visit today to two of
Jerusalem's most sacred sites, with Israeli police locking arms to
restrain the crowd and Secret Service agents packed tightly around
America's first lady.

Stepping into the long-running Middle East conflict, she appealed for
Israelis and Palestinians to commit to working for peace and said
Americans will do what they can in this process.

The demonstrations at the Western Wall and the Dome of the Rock showed
what an emotional place this is as we go from each one of these very,
very holy sites to the next, Mrs Bush said later in the West Bank
town of Jericho as she stood at the ruins of the 8th-century Hisham's
Palace.

We're reminded again of what every one of us would want. What we all
want is peace and the chance that we have right now to have peace, to
have a Palestinian state living by a secure state of Israel, both
living in democracy, is as close as we've been in a really long time,
she said.

The Kaabah: Its Size and History

The small, cubed building known as the Kaabah may not rival skyscrapers in
height or mansions in width, but its impact on history and human beings is
unmatched.
The Kaabah is the building towards which Muslims face five times a day,
everyday, in prayer. This has been the case since the time of Prophet Mohammad
(peace and blessings be upon him) over 1400 years ago.

The Size of the Kaabah:

The current height of the Kaabah is 39 feet, 6 inches and total size comes to
627 square feet.
The inside room of the Kaabah is 13X9 meters. The Kaabah's walls are one meter
wide. The floor inside is 2.2 meters higher than the place where people perform
Tawaf.
The ceiling and roof are two levels made out of wood. They were reconstructed
with teak which is capped with stainless steel.
The walls are all made of stone. The stones inside are unpolished, while the
ones outside are polished.
This small building has been construct ed and reconstructed by Prophets Adam,
Ibrahim, Ismail and Mohammad (peace be upon them all). No other building has
had this honor.
Yet, not very much is known about the details of this small but significant
building.
Did you know the Kaabah was reconstructed as recently as close to four years
ago?
Did you know that the Kaabah has been subjected to danger by natural disasters
like flooding, as well as human attacks?
If you didn't keep reading. You'll find some rarely heard of information
discussed below and discover facts about the Kaabah many are unaware of.

The other names of the Kaabah

Literally, Kaabah in Arabic means a high place with respect and prestige. The
word Kaabah may also be derivative of a word meaning a cube.
Some of these other names include:

Bait ul Ateeq-which means, according to one meaning, the earliest and ancient.
According to the second meaning, it means independent and liberating. Both
meanings could be taken

Bait ul Haram-the honorable house

The Kaabah has been reconstructed up to 12 times

Scholars and historians say that the Kaabah has been reconstructed between five
to 12 times.
The very first construction of the Kaabah was done by Prophet Adam (peace be
upon him). Allah says in the Quran that this was the first house that was built
for humanity to worship Allah.
After this, Prophet Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them) rebuilt the Kaabah.
The measurements of the Kaabah's Ibrahimic foundation are as follows:
-the eastern wall was 48 feet and 6 inches
-the Hateem side wall was 33 feet
-the side between the black stone and the Yemeni corner was 30 feet
-the Western side was 46.5 feet
Following this, there were several constructions before the Prophet Mohammad
(peace and blessings be uponj him) 's time.

Reconstruction of Kaabah by Quraish

Prophet Mohammad participated in one of its reconstructions before he became a
Prophet .
After a flash flood, the Kaabah was damaged and its walls cracked. It needed
rebuilding.
This responsibility was divided among the Quraish's four tribes. Prophet
Mohammad helped with this reconstruction.
Once the walls were erected, it was time to place the Black Stone, (the Hajar
ul Aswad) on the eastern wall of the Kaabah.
Arguments erupted about who would have the honor of putting the Black Stone in
its place. A fight was about to break out over the issue, when Abu Umayyah,
Makkah's oldest man, proposed that the first man to enter the gate of the
mosque the following morning would decide the matter. That man was the Prophet.
The Makkans were ecstatic. This is the trustworthy one (Al-Ameen), they
shouted in a chorus. This is Mohammad.
He came to them and they asked him to decide on the matter. He agreed.
Prophet Mohammad proposed a solution that all agreed to-putting the Black Stone
on a cloak, the elders of each of the clans held on to one edge of the cloak
and carried the stone to its place. The Prophet then picked up the stone and
placed it on the wall of the Kaabah.
Since the tribe of Quraish did not have sufficient funds, this reconstruction
did not include the entire foundation of the Kaabah as built by Prophet
Ibrahim. This is the first time the Kaabah acquired the cubical shape it has
now unlike the rectangle shape which it had earlier. The portion of the Kaabah
left out is called Hateem now.

Construction After the Prophet's Time-Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr

The Syrian army destroyed the Kaabah in Muharram 64 (Hijri date) and before the
next Hajj Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr, may Allah be pleased with him, reconstructed
the Kaabah from the ground up.
Ibn az-Zubayr wanted to make the Kaabah how the

[IslamCity] Submission to God by Alija Izetbegovic (Ex- President of Bosnia)

2005-05-25 Thread FAITH

Submission to God
Extract from Alija Izetbegovic's magnum opus: Islam Between East and West.
Alija Izetbegovic (8 August,1925 -19 October, 2003) , the venerable lawyer, politician and author from Bosnia-Herzegovina. Izetbegovic died in hospital in October 2003 after becoming ill following a fall at his home in September. His funeral was attended by over 150,000 Bosnians.

"Our goal: the Islamisation of Muslims. Our methods: to believe and to struggle."The following essay is from Izetbegovic's 'Islam Between East and West': Nature has determinism, man has destiny. The acceptance of this destiny is the supreme and final idea of Islam. Destiny -- does it exist and what form does it take? Let us look at our own lives and see what has remained of our most precious plans and the dreams of our youth? Do we not come helplessly into the world faced with our own personality, with higher or lower intelligence, with attractive or repulsive looks, with an athletic or dwarfish stature, in a king's place or in a beggar's hut, in a tumultuous or peaceful time, under the reign of a tyrant or a noble prince, and generally in geographical and historical circumstances about which we have not been consulted? How limited is
what we call our will, how tremendous and unlimited is our destiny!

Man has been cast down upon this world and made dependent on many facts over which he has no power. His life is influenced by both very remote and very near factors. During the Allied invasion of Europe in 1944, there was, for a moment, a general disturbance in radio communications which could have been fatal for the operations under way. Many years later, the disturbance was explained as a huge explosion in the Andromeda constellation, several million light years away form our planet. One type of catastrophic earthquake on the earth is due to changes on the sun's surface. As our knowledge of the world grows, so does our realization that we will never be complete masters of our fate. Even supposing the greatest possible progress of science, the amount of factors under our control will always be insignificant compared to the amount of those beyond it. Man is not proportional to the world. He and his lifetime me not the measuring units of the pace of things. This is the
cause of man's eternal insecurity, which is psychologically reflected in pessimism, revolt, despair, apathy, or in submission to God's will.
Islam arranges the world by means of upbringing, education, and laws. That is its narrower scope; submission to God is the broader one.
Individual justice can never be fully satisfied within the conditions of existence. We can follow all Islamic rules which, in their ultimate result, should provide us with the "happiness in both worlds"; moreover, we can follow all other norms, medical, social and moral but, because of the terrific entanglement of destinies, desires and accidents, we can still suffer in body and soul. What can console a mother who has lost her only son? Is there any solace for a man who has been disabled in an accident?
We ought to become conscious of our human condition. We are immersed in situation. I can work to change my situation, but there are situations which are essentially unchangeable, even when their appearance takes a new look, and when their victorious power is veiled: l must die; I must suffer; I must fight; I am a victim of chance; I get inevitably entangled in guilt. These basic conditions of our existence are referred to as "the border situations."[1] Sure, "man is bound to improve everything that can be improved in this world. After that, children will still go on dying unjustly even in the most perfect of societies. Man, at best, can only give himself the task of reducing arithmetically the sufferings of this world. Still, injustice and pain will continue and, however limited, they will never cease to be blasphemy."[2]
Submission to God or revolt -- these are two different answers to the same dilemma.
In submission to God, there is some of every (human) wisdom except one: shallow optimism. Submission is the story of human destiny, and that is why it is inevitably permeated with pessimism: for "every destiny is tragic and dramatic if we come down to its bottom."[3]
Recognition of destiny is a moving reply to the great human theme of inevitable suffering. It is the recognition of life as it is and a conscious decision to bear and to endure. In this point, Islam differs radically from the superficial idealism and optimism of European philosophy and its naive story about "the best of all possible worlds." Submission to God is a mellow light coming from beyond pessimism.
As a result of one's recognition of his impotence and insecurity, submission to God itself becomes a new potency and a new security. Belief in God and His providence offers a feeling of security which cannot be made up for with anything else. Submission to God does not imply passivity as many people wrongly believe. In

Muslims today and Muslims in the past
The time is over when we used to make advancementscompelling the world powers to retreat. Those preciousmoments have gone far away from us on account of ourcarelessness, love for the wealth and the world. Itwas a time when the entire world advertently orinadvertently was compelled to follow us. We had challenged the Greek civilization, we had called Azansin whole of Hindustan, we had offered prayers at eachand every spot of the earth, we had eliminated the centuries-old culture of Egypt, defeated the enemy atall fronts, we had changed the environment of RomeandIran through our slogans of Allah-o-Akbar andrecitation of holy words, our sword had its impact onthe entire world from the Arab to non-Arab world, ourhorses had entered the oceans of brutality toeliminate injustices from the earth, we had taught newtactics and styles of living with dignity to
the worldnations, we had set examples of bravery, and we hadintroduced new rules of war.
But today we are at the defensive side. We docelebrate the Defence Day, but we do not takeinitiative and so we do never observe any day aroundthe year, which could be called the Day ofAdvancement. We had come forward as the rescuer of thehumanity, but today we are waiting for others to comefor our rescue. We are the one who were assigned toshow right path to the humanity from east to west, buttoday we are loitering hapless waiting for foreignhelp. We are the one that our shepherds were even hadability to lead the community, but today we do nothave our 'Imams' (leaders). Those who had crushed the'white paper' under their feet, are now standing infront of the White House with begging bowls in theirhands. Those who had a kind and soft heart for theoppressed are now looking for a kind-hearted person. Those who had all hopes on just one
Allah, are nowlooking towards hundreds of thousands others for help. Those who were stronger than storms and calamities, are unable today to sustain even a small blow of thewind and close eyes seeing the danger. We have becomeso coward that we take the unwanted changes in thepolitical and worldly development as our unnaturaldeath. We are the one who eliminated slavery from theworld are now becoming slaves of the super powers. The world knows that Muslims used to fight withoutfood and water a hundred times bigger and strongerenemies on foot and used to defeat them in allbattlefields but now despite having all resources ofthe world we have become spiritless. If we recall the Islamic History:

We remember thatthere were only 313 Muslims during 'Badr War'. Andthese fistful Muslims had only two horses, 70 camels, eight swords and six armour chains. While thebattalion of the enemy in that war was bigger. Stillthe Muslims stood victorious.

In 'Uhud War', thebattalion of Muslims comprised only 700 warriors, while the battalion of the enemy comprised 3,000 fullyarmed men. But the Muslims made them run from thebattlefield.

In 'Khandaq War', there were only 3,000Muslims while the forces of enemy comprised 24,000warriors. But the Muslims had courage and won thebattle.

In 'Khyber War', Muslims were not more than1600 troops, who fought 20,000 Jews and still theMuslims stood victorious and captured the Khyber.

In'Qudsiya War', Muslim troops were a little over30,000, while there were more than 100,000 Iranianwarriors against Muslims who ultimately had to retreatand Muslims stood victorious.

In 'Yarmook War', 32,000 Muslims defeated 200,000Romans. (Some historians have written the figure ofRomans as 700,000 out of which 500,000 were killedwhile 40,000 were captured).

In 'Spain War', 12,000Muslims, led by Tariq bin Ziyad, who was a smallfollower of Hazrat Moosa bin Naseer (rahmatullahi),fought an army of 100,000 troops of the enemy who werearmed with latest war gadgets. Christians cannot deny the fact that Muslims, thousands of miles away fromtheir homeland, fought a war with them and defeatedthem at all fronts.

What was the reason that everysingle Muslim was heavier than a hundred troops of theenemy? What was the reason that Muslims had neverthought that they were going to wage a war against ahundred times bigger enemy?
The governor of Egypt, during a war, had sought helpfrom Hazrat `Omar bin Al-Aas (radhiallahu ta`ala`anhu) and demanded 30,000 troops. In response to theEgypt governor's request, Hazrat `Omar (radhiallahuta`ala `anhu) sent just three men and said initiallyaccept these three thousand. Those three men were:Hazrat Kharja bin Hazafa (radhiallahu ta`ala `anhu),Hazrat Zubair bin Awam (radhiallahu ta`ala `anhu), andHazrat Maqdad bin Aswad (radhiallahu ta`ala `anhu). These three Muslim warriors really proved heavier than30,000 troops of the enemy. The Muslims of yesteryears really had something

“The Web site will be the gateway

  By Sobhy Mujahid, IOL Correspondent
CAIRO, May 22, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) – In one of the biggest
e-projects in the Muslim world, Al-Azhar has launched a long-awaited Web
site featuring digital copies of its huge and rare library.
  “The project enables Internet
users worldwide to have access to the 42,000 manuscripts and 128,000 books
of Al-Azhar’s library, Egypt's second biggest library after the
Bibliotheca Alexandrina,” Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Mohamed Sayyid
Tantawi told the launch ceremony on Saturday, May 21.
The five-million-dollar project offers digital translations,
in different languages, of Al-Azhar’s manuscripts, some dating back 1400
years, in tandem with Al-Azhar's Faculty of Languages and
  Translation.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Karam, the Executive Director of the Dubai
Knowledge Village and Manager of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Information Technology Education Project, said the digital library is the
  biggest scanning project worldwide.
“So far, the project has scanned nearly 14,000 scripts
  including 900,000 pages,” he noted.
The project was launched in April 2000 under the patronage of
Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al

Sheikh Tantawi said the mega-project will serve as the
Islamic voice, presenting the world with the true image of Islam and its

“The Web site will be the gateway for peoples from across the

civilization.
“It will also offers the possibility of getting answers to
religious questions or fatwas (edicts) through e-mails,” he
  added.
Al-Azhar has recently revealed plans to launch a satellite channel to counter
anti-Islam onslaughts and highlight the true essence of Islam as a
  religion of peace and tolerance.
Al-Azhar, which means the “most flourishing and resplendent,”
is the highest seat of learning in the Sunni Muslim world.
It was named after Fatima Al-Zahraa, daughter of prophet
Muhammad (PBUH), who gave rise to the Fatimid dynasty which governed Egypt
  from 969 to 1171 CE.
The first courses at Al-Azhar were given in 975 CE and the
first college was built 13 years later.
Al-Azhar first admitted women students in 1961, albeit in
separate classes. Also in 1961, subjects in engineering and medicine were
added to classes on Shari’ah, the Noble Qur’an and the intricacies of
  Arabic language.

From: "Najlâ'نجلاء" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: ThuApr21,2005 5:11 pm Subject: Conditions for the marriage contract in Islam
inviteyoutoi... Offline Send Email

Praise be to Allaah
There are three pillars or conditions for the marriage contract in Islam:

Both parties should be free of any obstacles that might prevent the marriage from being valid, such as their being mahrams of one another (i.e., close relatives who are permanently forbidden to marry), whether this relationship is through blood ties or through breastfeeding (radaa’) etc., or where the man is a non-Muslim and the woman is a Muslim, and so on.

There should be an offer or proposal (eejaab) from the walee or the person who is acting in his place, who should say to the groom “I marry so-and-so to you” or similar words.

There should be an _expression_ of acceptance (qabool) on the part of the groom or whoever is acting in his place, who should say, “I accept,” or similar words.
The conditions of a proper nikaah (marriage contract) are as follows:

Both the bride and groom should be clearly identified, whether by stating their names or describing them, etc.

Both the bride and groom should be pleased with one another, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No previously-married woman (widow or divorcee) may be married until she has been asked about her wishes (i.e., she should state clearly her wishes), and no virgin should be married until her permission has been asked (i.e., until she has agreed either in words or by remaining silent).” They asked, “O Messenger of Allaah, how is her permission given (because she will feel very shy)?” He said: “By her silence.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 4741)

The one who does the contract on the woman’s behalf should be her walee, as Allaah addressed the walees with regard to marriage (interpretation of the meaning): “And marry those among you who are single…” [al-Noor 24:32] and because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Any woman who marries without the permission of her walee, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 1021 and others; it is a saheeh hadeeth)

The marriage contract must be witnessed, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no marriage contract except with a walee and two witnesses.” (Reported by al-Tabaraani; see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 7558)
It is also important that the marriage be announced, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Announce marriages.” (Reported by Imaam Ahmad; classed as hasan in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1027)
The conditions of the walee are as follows:

He should be of sound mind

He should be an adult

He should be free (not a slave)

He should be of the same religion as the bride. Anon-muslim cannot be the walee of a Muslim, male or female, and a Muslim cannot be the walee of a non-muslim, male or female, but anon-muslim can be the walee of anon-muslim woman for marriage purposes, even if they are of different religions. An apostate (one who has left Islam) cannot be a walee for anybody.

SOUTHERN SHUNEH, Jordan - Laura Bush on Saturday
encouraged Middle Eastern leaders to expand women's
participation in their societies as she herself took
on a new role as an international goodwill
 ambassador.

After shying from the spotlight in her husband's
first term, Mrs. Bush became the face of women
taking on larger public roles with a speech to the
World Economic Forum conference on the Middle East.
Freedom, especially freedom for women, is more
than the absence of oppression, she said. It's the
right to speak and vote and worship freely. Human
rights require the rights of women.

She said there has been extraordinary progress for
women in the Middle East, especially since the
oppressive Taliban was removed from power in
Afghanistan. She said was delighted that Kuwait
extended the right to vote to women last week,
drawing the singular outburst of applause to
interrupt her speech. Women can now vote in all
Middle Eastern nations where elections are held
except Saudi Arabia. The Persian Gulf nations of
Bahrain, Qatar and Oman all have held their first
elections in recent years and have allowed women to
 cast ballots.

Mrs. Bush is one of the most admired women in the
United States, with approval ratings leaps and
bounds above her husband's this year. She's using
her popularity to extend a friendly face to the
Middle East, two months after she made a brief
surprise visit to Afghanistan. With anti-American
demonstrators taking to the streets to protest
allegations that U.S. interrogators have mistreated
Muslim captives, Mrs. Bush stressed her country's
religious inclusion. In the United States, we
respect the traditions of all faiths, she said.

She also said she plans to visit holy sites from all
three major religions born in the surrounding lands.
After her speech she visited Mount Nebo, the site
where Moses surveyed the Promised Land and where he
later died, according to the Bible.

Mrs. Bush spoke at the Hussein Bin Talal Convention
Center, a sparkling new structure overlooking the
Dead Sea. It was the most high-profile event of a
three-nation tour that will include visits to
programs that are advancing childhood education and
women's roles. Her appearance came on the second day
of a three-day international conference sponsored by
the Geneva-based World Economic Forum. It brought
together about 1,300 international business and
political leaders as well as a few celebrities, such
as actor Richard Gere. The forum is best known for
its glitzy annual meeting in the Swiss ski resort of
 Davos.

In some ways, Mrs. Bush was speaking to the choir.
She echoed the sentiments of many speakers at the
conference and her appearance was not an
overwhelming draw, with the auditorium only a little
more than half full. Mrs. Bush said the Middle East
is making strides in improving democracy. She cited
recent elections in Iraq and the Palestinian
 territories, democratic demonstrations in Lebanon
and elections in nearby Afghanistan. Now we are
seeing a springtime of hope across the Middle East,
 she said.

She said she understands that fully inclusive
democracy can be slow to develop. In my country,
women didn't secure the right to vote until more
than a century after its founding, she said,
batting away a pesky fly that repeatedly landed on
her face throughout her speech. Mrs. Bush said that,
besides including women, societies also must expand
education for freedom to thrive. President Bush and
I want a future of peace and opportunity for our own
daughters and for all the world's children, she
 said.

In a more private setting, Mrs. Bush also used the
conference to push for improvements for children
back home. She touted her effort to support at-risk
youth in a private meeting with members of Congress
also attending the forum, including Republican Sens.
John Sununu of New Hampshire, Orrin Hatch of Utah
and Gordon Smith of Oregon, and Reps. Christopher
Shays, R-Conn., and Jane Harman, D-Calif.
