Dr. Brown is a practicing ophthalmologist, a revert to Islam, and the author of
several ground-breaking books of Islamic Dawa (i.e., invitation). His first
book, The First and Final Commandment, is a comprehensive argument in support
of the Islamic claim of continuity of revelation. This present book, Bearing

controversial issues of their new, chosen religion of Islam. Inspired, assisted
and approved by Shaykh Abu Ammaar Yasir Qadhi.

[IslamCity] OIC Wants Religious Tolerance Bedrock of UN Rights Body from islamonline.net

2006-02-16 Thread S A Hannan

OIC Wants Religious Tolerance Bedrock of UN Rights Body

Certain governments have expressed a wish to include a reference
to the protection of particular values, said Heuze.

  GENEVA, February 14, 2006 (IslamOnline.net News Agencies) - Muslim
countries are pressing for a ban on religious intolerance to be part of the
bedrock of a planned new United Nations human rights body, officials said on
Tuesday, February 14.

Since the controversy over the cartoons, certain governments have
expressed a wish to include a reference to the protection of particular values
in the resolution that would create the UN Human Rights Council, said UN
spokeswoman Marie Heuze.

The proposal by 57 governments which are grouped in the Organization of
the Islamic Conference (OIC) comes as the outcry continues in the Muslim world
over the publication of Danish caricatures that lampooned Prophet Muhammad
(peace and blessings be upon him), reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).

According to the text of the proposal, the new UN body should strive to
prevent instances of intolerance, discrimination, incitement of hatred and
violence arising from any actions against religions, prophets and beliefs which
threaten the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

It also says that defamation of religions and prophets is inconsistent
with the right to freedom of expression and that states, organizations and the
media have a responsibility in promoting tolerance and respect for religious
and cultural values.

  Divided

The move is likely to complicate efforts to build consensus by the end of
this week among all UN members on setting up the new council, which would
replace the UN Human Rights Commission -- a forum that has come under
increasing criticism for failing to spotlight abuses.

Some governments see the Muslim proposal as out of step with a broader
accord to create the new body, said officials.

Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey said that linking the two
issues could endanger those efforts.

She instead favored a separate UN resolution on respect for religions.

There has been rising demand in the Muslim world for such a UN move.

Muslim dignitaries and organizations have called for the enactment of an
international law banning the publication of any insults to religious symbols
and values.

The OIC and the Arab League, the Muslim world's two main political
bodies, are also seeking a UN resolution, backed by possible sanctions, to
protect religions following the publication of provocative cartoons.

The cartoons, one of them showing the Prophet with a bomb-shaped turban,
were first published in Denmark last year, and have been reprinted by
newspapers in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and other
countries on the ground of freedom of expression.

That argument has been rejected by most Muslim countries, which say it
should not be used as a pretext to insult their religions.

Any image of the Prophet -- let alone biting caricatures -- is considered
blasphemous under Islam.

  Universal Declaration

Because having the freedom without responsibility could lead our
civilization to absolute liberalism, said Syamsuddin.

On Monday, February 13, East Asian Muslim and Christian leaders wrapped
up their two-day meeting in the Indonesian capital Jakarta by urging the UN to
make a universal declaration strictly banning blasphemy.

Din Syamsuddin, leader of Indonesia's second largest Muslim organization,
the Muhammadiyah, said the forum proposed the UN issue a declaration of human
responsibility in order to prevent more examples of blasphemous or insulting
acts toward religions, the Jakarta Post reported on Tuesday.

I shared the idea during rounds of discussions with other religious
leaders here, and I personally agree that the UN should issue a universal
declaration of human responsibility, apart from the universal declaration of
human rights, he told a news conference.

Because having the freedom without responsibility could lead our
civilization to absolute liberalism.

Din said the declaration would allow people and institutions to exercise
freedom of expression, but also make them responsible in their actions.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Chusak Sirisut, director of the Bangkok-based religious
and cultural research center in Saengtham College, said there was a similarly
insulting cartoon when Pope Benedictus XVI was inaugurated last October.

Press freedom should not insult religious figures.

[IslamCity] THE KNOTS OF SHAYTAN

2006-02-16 Thread Saba Khan
The Knots of Shaytan

By Noor Mustafa Aziz al Masri

It is a well-documented fact that Iblis and jinn are
dwelling amongst us.

“And I (Allaah) created not the jinn’s and humans,
except they should worship Me (Alone).” [al-Dhaariyaat
51:56].

But if we follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Rasool
(saw) and take the proper precautions, we can protect
ourselves from the evil influence of shaytan and the
jinn.

It is reported by way of Abi Hurayrata , that someone
used to come upon him and take from the charity -
which the Prophet saw had made him guardian over -
night after night, so on the third night, he said: I
will report you to the Messenger of Allah saw, the man
said: Let me teach you some phrases with which Allah
will cause you benefit - they were very eager for good
- so he said: When you go to bed, read Ayahtal-kursee
(47) completely, for there is still upon you from
Allaah a guardian, and no shaytan can get close to you
until you enter upon morning. Then he said: He told
you the truth and he is a liar, ([that was a
shaytan]).

Unfortunately, there are times in our lives when we
will fall asleep without reading Qur’an or the
circumstances of this dunya prevent us from reading
the above mention Sur’ah. But, Subhana’Allaah our Rabb
Allaah (swt) is All Knowing and Merciful! He has given
us other means to protect ourselves from the influence
of the “liar.” Shaytan is a cunning and sly individual
and his ways of getting to us and influencing us to do
haraam things goes far beyond our normal expectations.
However, by taking a few simple and easy steps we can
keep ourselves safe from harm Insha’Allah.

What to do?

Du’aa: Make the following du’aa on first awakening in
the morning before you get up from your bed.

It was reported that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be
pleased with him) said: “Abu Bakr said: ‘O Messenger
of Allaah, teach me something that I can say in the
morning and in the evening.’ He said: ‘Say, Allaahumma
‘Aalim al-ghaybi wa’l-shahaadah, Faatir al-samawaati
wa’l-ard, Rabba kulli shay’in wa maleekahu, ashhadu an
laa ilaaha illa anta. A’oodhi bika min sharri nafsi wa
min sharr il-shaytaan wa shirkih (O Allaah, Knower of
the seen and the unseen, Creator of the heavens and
the earth, Lord and Sovereign of all things, I bear
witness that there is no god except You. I seek refuge
in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil
and shirk of the Shaytaan). Say this in the morning
and in the evening, and when you go to bed.’”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 3392; Abu Dawood, 5067).

Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 21, Number 243: Narrated
Abu Huraira (R) Allaahs Apostle said, Satan puts
three knots at the back of the head of any of you if
he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the
following words, The night is long, so stay asleep.
When one wakes up and remembers Allaah, one knot is
undone; and when one performs ablution, the second
knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is
undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in
the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a
mischievous heart.

Wudu: Always make ablution before you begin your salat
fajr. When you finish your wudu or Ghusl then you can
say either of the following du’a (supplications):

It is reported by way of Umar ibn Al-Khattab that the
Prophet (saw) said: There is not one of you that
makes wudu, and performs the rites of wudu, then says
when he has completed his wudu: sh-hadu n lã ilãha
illa llãhu wahdahu la shareeka lahu, wa nna Muhammadan
`abduhu wa rasooluhu (67), except that the eight gates
of Heaven would open up for him, that he may enter
from whichever he would please.

Transliteration: “I bear witness that there is no ilãh
except Allaah alone, no partner has he, and that
Muhammad is His bondservant, and Messenger.”

Authentication: Reported by Muslim, Abu Dãwood,
An-Nisãî and Ahmad. Al-Albãni said it was sound in his
Sahih l-Jãmi` As-Sagheer wa Ziyãdatih. This hadith is
#162 in his Sahih «i-Dawood, and #96 in l-irwã

It is reported by way of «i Sa`eed that the Prophet
saw said: Whoever performs wudu then says after he
has completed his wudu: Subhãnaka llãhumma wa
bihamdika, sh-hadu n lã ilãha illa nta, staghfiruka wa
toobu ilayka (66), it would be written on vellum then
sealed; thereafter, it would not be broken till The
Day of Resurrection

Transliteration: “Glorified are You O my ilãh and I
am in Your praise, I testify that there is no ilah
except You, I ask Your forgiveness and repent unto
You.

Authentication: Al-Albãni said it was sound in Sahih
l-Jãmi` as-Sagheer wa Ziyãdatih and that it was
reported by An-Nisãî, and Al-Hakim.

Volume 4, Book 54, Number 491: Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allaah's Apostle (saws) said, During your sleep,
Satan knots three knots at the back of the head of
each of you, and he breathes the following words at
each knot, The night is, long, so keep on sleeping, If
that person wakes up and celebrates the praises of
Allaah, then one knot is undone, and when he performs
ablution the

[IslamCity] Islamic Behavior: 3. HOW TO RESPOND TO SOMEONE WHO HURTS YOU.

2006-02-16 Thread Curtis Sharif

Bismillah, Peace, Curtis Sharif Houston, TexasFrom:"Dawah Messages" [EMAIL PROTECTED]To:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Subject:Islamic Behavior: 3. HOW TO RESPOND TO SOMEONE WHO HURTS YOU. 3. HOW TO RESPOND TO SOMEONE WHO HURTS YOU.When someone hurts us we usually tend to respond in a way as to hurt that person twice as much and this vicious cycle proper gates. This can destroys human relationship what then is the Islamic ruling in such circumstances?Islam has given us the right to defend ourselves against one who hurts us and a part of the sharia ruling is to punish wrong doers. At the same time, Islam is built upon the foundation of justice and calls for forgiveness. Allah (SWT) says in Surahh Nahl V.126 and if you punish (your enemy) then punish them with the like of that which you were affected. But if you endure patiently, verily it is better for you. In Surah As-Shura, V.40 The recompense for an evil is an evil like thereof, but whoever forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah, verily he like not
the transgressors, and Allah (SWT) has revealed in same Shura V.39 and those who when an oppressive wrong is done to them they take their rights - hence taking one’s right in this context should not be considered as bad. Regarding these 2 verses Al-Khutubi said that there are 2 types of wrong doers i.e. one who is an evil person and hurts everyone. For such a person - Ibrahmi An Nakkaiy said that one should takes one right and punish such a person so that he may give up such a bad behavior. The 2nd type of evildoer is someone who rarely hurts people and he confess his/her mistake and
asks for forgiveness and for such a person Allah (SWT) said in Surah Al-Baqarah V.237 (later part). And it is better to forgive and forgiveness is nearer to Al-Tawqa. (Purely and rightoussness). In Surah Nur. V.22 (2nd part) Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is off forgiving most merciful. In a Hadith given Tirmidhi. Aiysha (RAA) narrated that a man sat in front of Prophet (PBUH) and said I have 2 slaves who are disobeying and accuse them for lying and being dishonest unfaithful. I am screaming at them and hitting them so what is my situation in this mistake. The Prophet (PBUH) said if their bad deeds equal yours then you do not lose anything but if their bad deeds exceed yours then you will benefit. However, if your bad deeds exceed their mistakes then you will stand to lose. Then the man went aside and started to cry and the Prophet (PBUH) said don’t you read in the book of Allah: “And we shall setup balances of justice on the day of resurrection, then none will be dealt with
unjustly in any thing. And if there be the weight of a mustard seed, we will bring it. And sufficient are we as rectoners. Surah Al-Anbiya V:47.

[IslamCity] Statement of Concern

2006-02-16 Thread Burma Digest

Statement of Concern by people in Europe and around the world who support Burma's democratic struggle

According to the existing EU Common Position, all high-ranking Burmese government and military officials are banned from travelling to Europe, but the European Union is trying to find a way to allow participation of Burmese ministers and high-ranking military officials in the various ASEM/ARF meetings to be held in Europe in 2006.

It seems that the EU Common Position is softening, despite the empty promises and manoeuvring tactics of the military regime.
Do you think that the E.U's softly approach can really persuade the stubborn generals to make democratic changes?
We are all aware that our comrades in our motherland are being seriously persecuted by the notorious military regime with intention to maintain their grip on power by systematically dismantling the National League for Democracy and eliminating the ethic groups withihin the target time. As our country people are in fear and distressed, we are the only responsible ones who can freely perform the national duties to achieve our goals.

Here we urge the European Coouncil of Ministersto grant no exemption from the visa ban for the Burmese ministers and military officials to attend the ARF and ASEM meetings in Europe, unless an accountable government is in place; and the EU Common Position on Burma be strengthened instead, especially sanctions on oil and gas sector.

Please tell us your points of view HERE (http://burmadigest.wordpress.com/petition/

[IslamCity] FW: The Honourable Women Of Islam

2006-02-16 Thread Cemil Celepci
From: Rasha Spouh [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: The Honourable Women Of Islam

We are the honourable women of Islam!
We don't sell our bodies for people to sell their
products;
You won't find us advertising for stuff like new
trucks.
We don't dress up on the streets as if were some sort
of merchandise,
Keep your dirty hands to yourself, or, with Allah, you
will pay the price.

We are the honourable women of Islam!
Oh you men, keep your eyes to your self; we're not
products on display!
Throw your pickup lines away; we don't wanna hear what
you have to say.
We're not like other women; they sleep all around
town,
And to that despicable level, we will never come down.

We are the honourable women of Islam!
Yes, we wear the Hijab; its our badge of honour from
Al-Mu'eez.
We don't dress like other women; we are free from
their immodest disease.
We don't sell out and put our selves on billboards,
We have dignity, and from Allah, we will have our
rewards.

We are the honourable women of Islam!
You won't find us in parties, getting drunk and
disgraced,
What a shame! Women like that have had their honour
erased.
We don't dress like other women; we're not giving
every man a cheap thrill,
We don't dress like the prostitutes that are out just
chasing the dollar bill.

We are the honourable women of Islam!
Don't come to us looking for some dirty one night
stand!
You better turn away from us, and get yourself a
different plan.
We aren't messing around; we're busy raising up our
nation,
That's right, were busy taking Islam to the next
generation.

We are the honourable women of Islam!
We are the ones who raise the ummah and strive to make
it great,
If we didn't do our part, then for the ummah, what
would be its fate?
From babies to leaders, we are the ones who make them
what they are.
We are the honourable women of Islam, without us this
ummah won't go far!

[IslamCity] MALAYSIA: 'Muslims Angry at War on Terror, not Cartoons'

2006-02-16 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

Interesting insights on incites...-- Forwarded message --

 ROMAIPS AP CR DV IP
MALAYSIA: 'Muslims Angry at War on Terror, not Cartoons'
 Baradan Kuppusamy

Feb 12 , KUALA LUMPUR (IPS) - Delegates at an international conference
here entitled 'Who Speaks for Islam? Who speaks for the West', were
inclined to blame the ferocity of reactions against the cartoon
controversy, which gripped the world this past week, on the 'war on
 terror' in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The cartoons, depicting Prophet Mohammad as a terrorist and published in a
Danish newspaper, dominated the two-day conference which ended Saturday.
The timing of the meet was a matter of coincidence.

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, current chairman of the
Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC), urged Muslims and the western
world to join hands against fringe elements in both societies that, he
said, are ''hell bent on keeping us apart''. He called for bridges to be
built so that ''the West will speak for Islam and Muslims speak for the
 West''.

Badawi, however, blamed the ''hegemony of the centres of power in the
West'' for the widening chasm between Islam and the West.
''They (Muslims) see the subjugation of Palestine as an indirect
concretisation of this hegemony. They see hegemony manifested directly in
the attack upon Afghanistan and in the occupation of Iraq.''

At the same time, said Badawi, the West wrongly equated Islam with
violence. ''They think Osama bin Laden speaks for the religion and its
followers. Islam and Muslims are linked to all that is negative and
backward,'' he said, adding that the U.S.-led 'war-on- terror' has widened
 the chasm.

Badawi told delegates from 100-odd countries that ''those who deliberately
kill non-combatants and the innocent; those who oppress and exploit
others; those who are corrupt and greedy; those who are chauvinistic and
communal,'' cannot speak on behalf of Islam.

''We must acknowledge that in the West, principles such as freedom and
equality have found concrete _expression_ in the rule of law, public
accountability, acceptance of political dissent and respect for popular
participation. However, for a lot of Muslims today, this is not the face
of the West that they see,'' he told an audience of academics and
 policymakers.

Anger against the cartoons has been muted in this multi-ethnic country
that officially practices 'Hadhari', a moderate form of Islam on the
appeal of which, Badawi enjoys a solid electoral mandate, controlling
nearly 90 percent of the 217 seats in parliament.

Prominent among the foreign delegates was former Iranian president
Muhammad Khatami who, in comments to reporters, said that he hoped lessons
had been drawn from the caricature controversy. ''The Muslim world has
reacted to this issue and if this policy continues, we will be engaging in
 continuous violence, he warned.

While Malaysian newspapers were full of the rage that swept the Muslim
world over the week, none of the anger was reflected in the country's many
 mosques.

Badawi himself expressed sadness at the mischief the cartoons have caused
and went out of his way to say that that Malaysia would not boycott
Danish products unlike many other Middle Eastern countries.

The only official sign of discomfort was when Danish ambassador Borge
Petersen was 'summoned' and told that Malaysia deplored publication of
 such insensitive cartoons.

Denmark has, in fact, requested Malaysia's help in restraining Muslim rage
at the European nation whose media first published the caricatures of
Prophet Muhammad but was quickly reprinted by media in other countries.

Malaysian foreign minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said, on the
sidelines of the conference that he took a telephone call from his Danish
counterpart Per Stig Moller seeking Malaysian support in containing the
 rage.

Albar vowed that the fires raging around the world over the cartoons
''would not find kindle wood here in Malaysia.''

Leading Malaysian Islamic thinker Chandra Muzaffar credits the quietness
in this country to a lack of fear and insecurity among Malay Muslims.

''Unlike the other Muslim countries caught in the eye of the storm,
Malaysia is free of the hegemonic consequences of big powers that are
experienced by Afghanistan and Iraq for example,'' said Muzaffar,
president of the International Movement for a Just World or JUST, an NGO
 dedicated to inter-ethnic peace.

''Malaysia is relatively free of the negative consequences of hegemonic
 trends,'' he told IPS.

Muzaffar said social justice, religious harmony and reasonably good
governance in Malaysia are the key reasons why the sense of loss and deep
grievances, seen in other Muslim societies, is absent here.

''Muslims here don't feel dispossessed or have the same fear that Islam is
under threat as Muslims in other countries like Palestine or Afghanistan

[IslamCity] Why aren't Muslims just ignoring the cartoons?

WHY AREN'T MUSLIMS "JUST IGNORING" THE CARTOONS?

Brandon Yusuf Toropov

-

The 1965 Watts riots were not about traffic laws, and this controversy is not about press freedoms.

-

"Isn't this whole cartoon
controversy just somebody's PR stunt? Aren't radical imams manipulating people?
Wouldn't we all – Muslims included -- be better off simply ignoring these
cartoons, if they are so deeply offensive?"

MANY PEOPLE OF GOOD WILL BELIEVE that
the best response to the publication of the cartoons ridiculing the Prophet
(pbuh) would be to ignore them entirely. I want to suggest, though, that if
we ignore the wellspring of emotion that is beneath the dispute, or dismiss
that emotion as the function of a PR stunt, we may be missing something quite
important.

Consider this. Forty-one years ago, a section of Los
Angeles erupted in race riots that lasted six days,
cost 34 lives, resulted in over a thousand injuries, damaged or destroyed 600
buildings, and caused $200,000,000 in economic damage. The dispute began when a
white California Highway Patrol officer pulled over a black officer whom he
believed to be driving erratically.

The Watts riots had to do with race
relations, not California traffic
regulations.

Lecturing the rioters in Watts in 1965
about safe driving, or their lack of patience in dealing with law enforcement
officials, or their inability to tune out the irresponsible voices among them,
would not have been the most constructive choice. There was a deeper problem
then, and America
was in denial about it.

There is a deeper problem now, and America
is in denial about it.

It's not opportunistic radical clerics pushing media
buttons that brought about professional torturers, a network of illegal detention
centers, and 100,000 or so dead civilians in Iraq. Nor are partisan Islamist rabble-rousers
responsible for the collective ho-hum of reactionary Western
political commentators in response to these (pre-cartoon) events.

This controversy, in other words, did not
materialize in a
vacuum. The United States is still an occupying power in the Middle
East,
people are still being held secretly and illegally around the world,
nine out
of ten detainees at Gitmo had no connection whatsoever to al-Qaeda, the
UN says
America is torturing its prisoners, and the American military justice
system
still has yet to secure anything resembling justice for the sadistic
murder of detainees at its Bagram facility in Afghanistan, in which the
victims were suspended in midair and beaten for prolonged periods.

Most Americans, and a surprising number of Europeans, appear
to be pretty much okay with all of that.

And therein lies the difficulty.

The Watts riots were not about traffic laws, and this controversy is not
about press freedoms.

Large numbers of Muslims are indeed mad about the cartoons.
But they aren't just mad about the
cartoons. Those who characterize this outrage as a spontaneous, rabble-rousing
assault on free speech, with no meaningful connection to the events of recent
years, are not moving the dialogue forward in a constructive way.

The Danish prime minister may think the reaction to the
cartoons in the Muslim world is absurd and out of all proportion. Fox News may
think the reaction in the Muslim world is absurd and out of all proportion. The
vast majority of non-Muslims may even think the reaction in the Muslim world is
out of all proportion.

This very reaction, alas, is part of the problem. and part of what is galvanizing
people. After all, the officer who pulled over the black driver on a hot August day in
1965 probably thought the ensuing reaction of African Americans in Los Angeles
was absurd and out of all proportion, too. Riots and violence are wrong; so is ignoring their causes.

The callous indifference of mainstream non-Muslim institutions
to the ever-lengthening list of grievances in the Islamic world is the great
unexamined story here. Perhaps we should all start looking at this strangely
persistent cartoon controversy, not as an assault on the press, but as an
opportunity for Muslims and non-Muslims to begin speaking respectfully to one
another about the grave moral and practical implications of America's
current foreign policy.

[IslamCity] Example of a Mujahid in Allah's Cause

2006-02-16 Thread Jav6Hay

Example of a Mujahid in Allah's Cause [Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52, Number 46]Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): I heard Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) saying, "The example of a Mujahid in Allah's Cause-- and Allah knows better who really strives in His Causeis like a person who fasts and prays continuously. Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His Cause into Paradise if he is killed, otherwise He will return him to his home safely with rewards and war booty." [Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52, Number 48]Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu): The Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) said, "Whoever believes in Allah and His Apostle, offer prayer perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by Allah, no matter whether he fights in Allah's Cause or remains in the land where he is born." The people said, "O Allah's Apostle ! Shall we acquaint the people with the is good news?" He said, "Paradise has one-hundred grades which Allah has reserved for the Mujahidin who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and the Earth. So, when you ask Allah (for something), ask for Al-firdaus which is the best and highest part of Paradise." (i.e. The
sub-narrator added, "I think the Prophet also said, 'Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of Beneficent (i.e. Allah), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.")

than a war on terror. If there are any people remaining alive who
still remain so stupid as to doubt that, let them access the following

February 15, 2006

Feb. 15 - Australian network SBS broadcasts images of alleged abuse of
what it says are prisoners at Abu Ghraib in Iraq.

Previously unpublished images of abuse of Iraqi prisoners at the Abu
Ghraib prison near Baghdad were screened on SBS television's Dateline
program. The footage shows still and video images of the wounds it
says were inflicted on the Iraqis by their American captors. SBS
alleges that the photos were taken at the same time as those of US
soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners inside Abu Ghraib, which sparked
international outrage after they were leaked in 2004.

While some of the photographs are similar to the images made public
two years ago, the latest photographs apparently reveal further abuse
including new incidents of killing, torture and sexual humiliation.
The program reports that some prisoners at Abu Ghraib were killed when
U.S. soldiers ran out of rubber bullets trying to quell a riot at the
jail and resorted to using live rounds.

The images come at a tense time in relations between the West and
Muslim countries after cartoons were published in Denmark which
satirised the Prophet Mohammad.

RE: [IslamCity] Ikhwan: Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimeen: the Muslim Brothe rhood

2006-02-16 Thread M. Malhar

From: Abu Abdullah

Subject: Ikhwaanis Date: Sun, 08 Sep 2002 19:39:04 -0700

Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type:
text/html X-Stn-Info:

Fiqh made Easy

Ikhwaanis (4)

Who are they?

Ikhwaan Muslimeen: It was established
by Sheik Hassan al-Banna who took special leave from his Sheik Basyouni and
Abdul-Wahhab al-Hasafi in the Hasafi Sufi order. Many Sheiks took control of
the Jama'aat of them Sayyid Qutub, Al-Hudaibi, At-Tilmasaani, As-Siba'ee, Al-Ghazali,
Fathi Yakun, Hassan Turabi and now Yousef Qaradawi. Its General
Characteristics: The general characteristics of the Ikhwaani Da'wah are:

1.
Staying away from issues that cause commotion.

2.
Staying away from prominent people.

3.
Staying away from groups and societies.

4.
Taking and building everything in steps.

5.
The youth gather around it.

6.
It spreads rapidly in the cities and countries.

The main characteristics and which is
in place till today is staying away from issues that cause commotion. This as
we said is the main characteristic which we will take in more detail later on.

 Da'wah: As for the Dawah,
Hassan al-Banna defined it saying: 'The Da'wah of the Ikhwaan Muslimeen is a Salafi
Da'wah, with a Sunni method, a Sufi reality, a political board, an athletic jama'ah,
a group of knowledge and culture, an economic company, and a social idea'
Going back to the characteristic, 'Staying away from issues that cause
commotion..' Hassan al-Banna said, 'When people would disagree they would raise
the issue to the Caliph, with the condition that he is the Imam and he would
judge between them. His ruling would raise the commotion. As for now where is
the Caliph? So it is best for the Muslims to take their issue to a Judge, but
there is no proper place to raise the issue and know that this would lead
people to another commotion...' This is not correct because the basic stone
which the Muslims return to is the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet.
The Book of Allah removes all differences. Allah says, 'People were one nation,
and Allah sent the Messengers and Prophets, as givers of glad tidings, and warners
and sent down with them the Book with truth to judge between people in what
they have disagreed upon...' So the Book of Allah is enough in solving the
commotions.

Aqeedah: In AQEEDAH: Imam Hassan
al-Banna said about Asma was Sifaat (Allah's names and attributes), 'We believe
that the madth'hab of the Salaf, which is to refrain from talking about it, and
that we should defer the knowledge to Allah...is best.' This in fact
is not the method of the Salaf with the names and attributes of Allah rather
the method of the Mufo'yiddah, which has nothing to do with the madth'hab of
the Salaf.

Relation with Other Religions:
As for relation with other religious groups: Imam Hassan al-Banna said, 'I
repeat that our enmity with the Jews is not religious because the Qur'an
encourages us to shake their hands and to befriend them. Islam is a Shari'ah
for humanity before it is a nationalistic Shari'ah' As-Siba'i said,
'Islam does not attack Christianity, rather it recognizes it and glorifies it.
Islam does not differentiate between a Christian and a Muslim, and does not
give a Muslim more of a right than a ChristianI also suggest the
following:

1. Islam should be the religion of the
country.

2. All religions which are originally
heavenly should be respected.

3. Nothing should stop the citizen
from reaching the highest ranks in the country, not even religion, sex, or
language. ' Sh. Ghazali said, 'Yes, I was of those who were appointed to bring
the Islamic Madth'habs together. I did lots of work between Dar at-Taqreeb in Cairo and I met
Sheik Muhamamd Taqi Al-Qummi (A Shiite) and Muhammad Jawad, and I have many
friends from the prominent Shiite scholars.'

Obedience: Imam al-Banna set the
ten pillars of the Bai'ah and the twenty points. The first pillar and from
which everything else is understood is 'undestanding'. Imam al-Banna says,
'What I mean by 'understanding' is that you should fully understand that our fikrah
(method) is totally Islamic, and that you should understand Islam as we
understand it in light of these twenty points.' Then he explains what is meant
by Tajarrud 'casting away' which is also from the ten pillars: 'That you leave
for this fikrah all ideas and people, because it is the best and highest...'
The Imam then explains what is meant by obedience: 'The system of Da'wah in
this stage should be totally Sufi from the spiritual side, and military from
the physical side. It should always be a command and obedience without
hesitation or researching, without doubt or guilt.' From the pillar of Thiqqah
'trust' he says, 'The peace of heart that the soldier has in the leader and in
his skills and sincerity would result with love, respect and obedience between
the two. The leader is a part of the Da'wah. There is no Da'wah without a
governing body. And according to the level of respect between the
