[IslamCity] Misleading - Terror Term is Unfair to Islamic Faith

2006-03-11 Thread Alan Border

Saturday, February 11, 2006Misleading: Terror Term is Unfair to Islamic FaithBy David Briggs RELIGION NEWS SERVICEhttp://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSJ%2FMGArticle%2FWSJ_BasicArticlec=MGArticlecid=1137834017149path=!livings=1037645509005 A Protestant and a Catholic murdered in a pub because
they were friends having a drink together. A young woman killed in her bed. A journalist assassinated. All crimes committed by loyalist paramilitary forces in Northern Ireland who are fervent in their self-identity as Protestants. Acts of Christian terrorism? A teenager, upset about the planned evacuation of Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip, empties his gun on a bus in an Israeli Arab town, killing four Israeli Arabs. An act of Jewish terrorism? A man and his two young sons in eastern India are burned to death in their Jeep by a mob shouting Hindu slogans. An act of Hindu terrorism? No, no and no. Each of these acts was committed by an individual or group acting out its own political and religious agendas. To associate an entire faith with the word "terrorist" because of the actions of a few radicals is no more fair than to use "Islamic terrorist" for a Muslim who blows himself up at a market. Yet that term survives in the media, a reflection of poor journalistic practice and inconsistent ethical standards that give tacit approval to treat the latest noticeable religious minority differently from other religious groups. The journalist's role is to give readers a fair and balanced understanding of events. That is why, in reporting on acts of terror, we
describe the individual or the group responsible and the complex motives that often are behind the actions. It is necessary to report the religious motives behind actions, but it is unfair to brush an entire faith with the label "terrorist." If use of the term were justified, then logically it should apply to individuals from other religious groups who commit acts of terror. But it doesn't. In a Nexis search of general news outlets, the term "Islamic terrorist" came up 611 times in the past two months. "Christian terrorist" came up 13 times, largely in opinion pieces. "Islamic terrorist" is regularly used in "straight" news stories. No
one would argue that religion is not, and historically has not been, a motivating force in acts of terror. But that does not give journalistic license to associate an entire faith such as Islam with terrorism. Nor would it justify twisting the complex role of religion in contributing to both good and evil in a society to serve as a warrant for moral superiority for those who are not religious, or using it as a club to keep religious voices out of public-policy debates. When one considers individuals who are arguably the most destructive of the 20th century - such people as Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Mao Zedong in his later days - what they have in common is an antipathy toward religion. They became their own gods, justifying genocidal acts in the
absence of any transcendent moral principles. Does that make Stalin an atheist terrorist? No, he was an individual tyrant who no more represents atheism than a suicide bomber represents the millions of our Muslim neighbors living in the United States. • David Briggs writes for The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. [IslamCity] OPIN: Dont Ignore the Quiet Majority of Muslims

2006-03-11 Thread Abdul Alim

2006-02-17 Don’t Ignore the Quiet Majority of Muslims by Salam Al-Marayati Most Muslims — and especially American Muslims — cannot fairly be accused of hypersensitivity when it comes to the Danish cartoons
depicting the prophet Muhammad. That’s because most Muslims have not overreacted, despite the stereotypic images served up by the media. In fact, most Muslims have hardly reacted at all — even those who are profoundly offended by the images. To put this in perspective, consider for a moment the frieze of Muhammad installed inside the picturesque building that houses the U.S. Supreme Court. Muhammad is pictured there to pay homage to his role as a significant lawmaker in world history. His statue stands next to that of Moses. In a 1997 court case, some Muslims raised concerns about the religious insensitivities demonstrated, but Chief Justice William Rehnquist upheld a lower-court decision to preserve this artistic rendition of Muhammad as a major contributor to jurisprudence. Muslim Americans did not go out on the streets to protest. In the cost-benefit analysis, American Muslims felt that the acknowledgment of Islam’s
contributions to Western Civilization outweighed the concern over insensitivity.Maybe it’s because of such experiences that American Muslims are not getting as riled up as some in other parts of the world. It’s also true that U.S. media outlets have acted with responsibility and restraint, while the American Muslim community has had the opportunity to voice its position through mainstream media channels and a few peaceful demonstrations. But this civilized Muslim response also should not be misinterpreted. Many peaceful Muslims reject the idea that this controversy is about defending freedom of _expression_. The same editors who decided to run caricatures of Muhammad demonizing him as a sex-driven and a bloodthirsty terrorist rejected caricatures of Jesus. While they dared cartoonists to draw the most vile images of Muslims and Islam, they were not ready to deal with a Christian outcry over
their own beloved symbols. And while there is anti-Jewish and anti-Christian sentiment in the Muslim world, it has never reached the point of defiling the images of Jesus and Moses. Instead, Islam accepts Jesus as the word of God and Moses as one of the most honorable messengers of God, equal to Muhammad. In fact, hundreds of millions of Muslims will fast the next few days in honor of Moses and the exodus of the Children of Israel from the oppression of the pharaoh. The Quran documents the verbal assaults against Muhammad, as well as those against Jesus and Moses, and embraces their decision to turn away from the insults, the same action that the vast majority of Muslims have done today. The Quran further demands that its adherents follow the free exercise of religion clause in Islam: “Let there be no compulsion in matters of faith” (2:256).Free thinking is a cornerstone of Islamic law, and securing freedom
of faith and _expression_ are paramount goals in classical Islamic law. What some Muslims do, however, can and does contradict Islamic principles.A handful of reckless Muslims who riot over the caricatures have ruined the case for Danish Muslims and European Muslims in general by distorting what is rightfully an issue of injustice and double standards. But this handful, which represents a fraction of the Muslim world, are countered by the overwhelming majority of Muslim institutions worldwide that have called for calm and restraint. The world’s leading Islamic body, the 57-nation Organization of Islamic Conference, also condemned the violence, saying, “Over-reactions surpassing the limits of peaceful democratic acts ... are dangerous and detrimental to the efforts to defend the legitimate case of the Muslim world.”In reality, it is Europe that has not accepted Islam and Muslims as an
integral part of pluralism. Instead, European governments apply double standards not only in journalism, but in the workplace and everyday life, where the Muslims of Europe live in de facto ghettos and are part of the downtrodden and disenfranchised. I attended a conference in Brussels with the U.S. ambassador to Belgium in November, and in that setting, the overwhelming response from Belgian and European Muslims was that they want to be integrated into their society, what they call home. Indeed, the issue is one of integrating Muslims into Western culture by moving beyond tolerance and dialogue to co-existence and partnership. We view the lampooning of Muhammad as a dehumanization of Muslims in Europe similar to the dehumanization of Jews in Europe that acted as a precursor to their persecution. We, Muslim Americans in particular and Muslims of the West in general are in the midst of two struggles, one for the soul of
Islam and one for the soul of the West. For the soul of Islam, we battle Muslim extremists on our

new subject, and as anyone familiar with economics will tell you, the denomination of oil sales is merely a transactional issue: what matters is in what assets (or, in the case of the United States, liabilities ) these proceeds are then invested."Dollar hegemony is also based on the recycling of petrodollars by giving loans to other countries like Brazile, Chile, Argentine which caused the debt crisis. Dollar hegemony is also based on its role as sole reserve currency.Since the US trade deficit and foreign debt is steadily growing, it seems like the assets are primarly invested in US dollars. What happens if countries don't need to trade their products inUSdollars since they don't need to fill their reserves anymore. And then slowly get away from the dollar to avoid a collapse.

[IslamCity] SHIAS BELIEF CONCERNING RAJAH - REFERENCES FROM THEIR OWN BOOKS

2006-03-11 Thread Saba Khan
THE SHIA BELIEF CONCERNING RAJ'AH :

The shia believe that once Imam Mehdi appears, all the
Ambiya (A.S) including Muhammad (Sallallaho Alayhi
Wasallam), all the A'immah and the Khulafa and Hazrat
Aa'ishah (R.A) [who are kuffar according to shia
belief] will be brought back to life and revenge will
be taken from Abu bakar, Umer and Ayesha (R.A) who
will be removed from their graves and lashed. The
belief of the Ahlus sunnah is that before Qiyaamah, no
person will back to life, nor will any other creation
come back to life. Therefore, this belief of the shia
is in reality a rejection of the day of Qiyamaah.

The Imam has mentioned that he who does not believe
mutah to be halal and he who does not believe in
Raj'ah (returning to life before Qiyaamah) is not from
amongst us. [tafseer safi by Faidh Kashani, part1,
page347, line18, New Iranian Edition].

Before Qiyaamah, Nabi (sallallaho Alayhi Wasallam),
Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, Hussein (R.A) and a few other
sincere Muslims and some kuffar will be brought back
to life. [Anwar-e-Naumaniyah by Naimatullah Jazairi,
part 2, page 87, Bab: Nur Fi Kayfiyyatir Raj'ah, New
Iranian Edition].

People mourn on the grave of Hussein (R.A) because he
was murdered and the angels were unable to assist him.
But when Mehdi comes and people will return to life,
the angels will help Mehdi. [Aqida-e-Raj'ah Ash shafi
by Zafar Husain, part 2, page 196, chapter 60, Shameem
book depot Edition, Nazimabad Karachi, New Edition]

Before Qiyaamah all the Ambiya (A.S) will be back to
life and assist Ali (R.A). [Zamimah Maqbool by Maqbool

Ali will come back to life. [Hayatul Quloob (urdu
translation) by Basharat Husain, part 1, page 204,
Imamiyah kutub khana Edition, Lahore].

Aqidatur-Raj'ah means to believe that all the Ambiyah
(A.S) will come back to life before Qiyaamah and help
Ali (R.A). [ibid].

Ali (R.A) will wage a battle in the period of Raj'ah.
[Usoolush Shari'ah by Shiekh Muhammad Husain Sarghoda,
page 26, Allah Qadeer printing press edition,
Sarghoda].

When imam Mehdi comes he will hang Hazrat Abu Bakr and
Umar at the holy grave of Hazrat Mohammad (saw).
(Majma-ul-ma’arif, page #49).

Mullah Baqir Majlisi writes: 'When Imam Mahdi arrives,
Aa'ishah will be resurrected so that she may be given
a prescribed punishment and that Fatimah be
vindicated.' (Haqqul Yaqeen: 347)

[IslamCity] In Mighty America College Students Burn Down Churches for FUN

2006-03-11 Thread Alan Border

3 Students Charged in Ala. Church FiresBy JAY REEVES, Associated Press Writer http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060309/ap_on_re_us/church_firesBIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For weeks, church parishioners in rural Alabama were on high alert, eager to find out who was burning down their churches. The answer, authorities now say, was three college students who took a joke too far. Agents capped a month of tedious police work Wednesday when they arrested the three friends in connection with nine church arsons that had spread fear through rural Alabama.According to court filings, the first arsons started as "a joke" that got out of hand. The other fires were apparently an attempt to throw off the massive arson investigation. Jim Parker, pastor of Ashby Baptist Church, one of the churches burned, said he heard that the suspects were promising students from good families. "We really are concerned about them as people," he said. "I would just like to know what they were thinking."Two of the suspects were identified as Benjamin Nathan Moseley and Russell Lee DeBusk Jr., both 19-year-old students at
Birmingham-Southern College. Matthew Lee Cloyd, a 20-year-old junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, also was arrested.Dr. David Pollick, president of Birmingham-Southern College, said in statement that Moseley and DeBusk were suspended and banned from campus awaiting further action by authorities. "The students, faculty and staff of our college are at once shocked and outraged, and we share the sorrow of our neighbors whose churches represent the heart and soul of their communities," Pollick said.Acquaintances said DeBusk and Moseley were both amateur actors who were known as pranksters and dreamed of becoming stars. They performed in campus plays and appeared in a documentary film. The arson attacks apparently began when the three got into Cloyd's sport utility vehicle for a night of deer shooting in Bibb County on Feb. 2., according to Walker Johnson, a federal agent who investigated the fires.Moseley told agents that the three set fire to five Baptist churches in the early morning hours of Feb. 3. A witness quoted Cloyd as saying Moseley did it "as a joke and it got out of hand." Moseley also told agents the four fires in west Alabama were set four days later "as a diversion to throw investigators off," an attempt that "obviously did not work," the court papers said.A judge ordered the three held
until a hearing Friday. Investigators had said earlier that they were looking for two men seen in a dark SUV near a few of the church fires, and documents show Cloyd drove a green Toyota SUV. Tire tracks found at the scene of six church fires allegedly matched the type of tires on Cloyd's Toyota: a BF Goodrich All Terrain model.Jim Collins at Cahaba Tires in Pelham said agents arrived Tuesday looking for records of those who had bought the tire in recent months. He said he had sold it four times — and one of the customers was
Cloyd's mother.Agents spoke with Cloyd's parents, Kimberly and Michael Cloyd. The father, a physician, said his son admitted that "he knew who did it and he was there," according to an affidavit. Then after the arrests, Moseley described how the church arsons unfolded, the affidavit said. "We pushed and pushed and pushed until we could make the break," said Jim Cavanaugh, regional head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "This is a very difficult case." DeBusk and Moseley were arrested on the same day they were featured in the campus newspaper. The article discussed their performances in campus plays, a documentary and their work in the film they had hopes of screening this fall. Moseley wanted to head for Los Angeles after graduation, and DeBusk might have accompanied him. "This is our crawling before we can walk," Moseley told The Hilltop News. "You're crawlin', I'm walking," said DeBusk. "I crawled in high school." Cloyd, who previously attended Birmingham-Southern, transferred last fall to UAB but was not believed to be involved in acting or film making with DeBusk and Moseley. An attorney for Cloyd, Tommy Spina, declined comment on the charges, but added: "This is not a hate crime. This is not a religious crime." A lawyer for DeBusk did not immediately return a message seeking comment, and court files did not list an attorney for Moseley. The three were jailed on federal charges of conspiracy and setting fire to a single church — Ashby Baptist. If convicted, each count carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison. Additional charges
are possible, authorities said. Gov. Bob Riley said after the arrests that the arsons did not appear to be "any type of conspiracy against organized religion" or the Baptist faith. "The faith-based community can rest a little easier," he said. Associated Press writer Samira Jafari in Tuscaloosa contributed to this report.AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be

[IslamCity] SHIAS DOCTRINE OF BADA

2006-03-11 Thread Saba Khan
The Doctrine of Bada

OF THE VARIOUS VIEWS AND PROPOSITIONS WHICH 'ABD ALLAH
IBN SABA' HAD PROPAGATED AMONG HIS FOLLOWERS (SHIAS),
THE PROPOSITION OF BADA IS QUITE IMPORTANT. BADA
IMPLIES SAYING THAT SOMETHING HAS INTERVENED (WHICH
HAS CAUSED ALLAH TO ALTER HIS PREVIOUS DETERMINATION),
I.E. GENERALLY THROUGH THE POSSIBILITY OF HIS
FORGETFULNESS OR IGNORANCE. BUT ALLAH IS UNDOUBTEDLY
FAR REMOVED FROM SUCH BLASPHEMY THAT THE SHIA
ENTERTAIN IN REGARD TO HIM.

AL-BADA SIGNIFIES KNOWLEDGE WHICH (ACCORDING TO THE
SHIA) ALLAH DOES NOT POSSES BEFOREHAND. THIS IS WHAT
THE SHIA HOLD ABOUT ALLAH WHILE ALLAH CLARIFIES HIS
KNOWLEDGE AS SPOKEN OF BY HAZRAT MUSA (PEACE BE UPON
HIM):

MY LORD ERRETH NOT, NEITHER DOTH HE FORGET.
(AL-QUR'AN, 20:35)

HE FURTHER DESCRIBES HIMSELF BY SAYING: HE IS ALLAH,
BESIDES WHOM THERE IS NONE WORTHY TO BE WORSHIPPED. HE
KNOWETH THAT WHICH IS HIDDEN AND THAT WHICH IS
APPARENT (59:22) HE SAYS: AND THAT ALLAH
COMPREHENDETH ALL THINGS BY (HIS) KNOWLEDGE (65:12).

BUT THE SHIA ON THE OTHER HAND, HOLD A FALSE NOTION
ABOUT ALLAH. THEY DO NOT SIMPLY BELIEVE IN BADA BUT
THEY RATHER GO FURTHER AHEAD AND GIVE ALL RESPECT TO
THOSE WHO HOLD THIS FALSE NOTION. AL-KULAINI RELATES
ON THE AUTHORITY OF JA'FAR WHO IS REPORTED TO HAVE
SAID: (ON THE DAY OF RESURRECTION) 'ABD ALMUTTALIB
WILL BE RAISED AS ONE SINGLE NATION. HE WILL WEAR THE
RESPLENDENCE OF THE KINGS AND IDENTITIES OF THE
PROPHETS. THIS IS BECAUSE HE WAS THE FIRST TO PROCLAIM
THE PROPOSITION OF BADA. (AL-KAFI, BOOK AL-HUJJA, EDN
INDIA, VOL. 1 P. 282).

BADA LITERALLY MEANS APPEARANCE. IN THE DOGMATIC
SENSE, WITH THE SHI'ITES, IT SIGNIFIES THE
INTERVENTION OF NEW CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH BRING ABOUT
THE ALTERATION OF AN EARLIER DEVINE DETERMINATION.
THERE ARE THREE SORTS OF BADA, NAMELY, BADA' AL'LLM
(OF THE KNOWLEDGE), BADA' AL-IRADA (OF THE WILL) AND
BADA' AL-AMR (OF THE COMMAND) OF ALLAH.

ONLY IN THE RECENT PAST, HAVE THE SHI'ITES UNDERTAKEN
TO PUBLISH IN THE MUSLIM WORLD A HUGE LITERATURE
FABRICATED AND EMBELLISHED WITH LIES, WHEREIN THEY
CLAIM TO BE VERY CLOSE TO THE AHL AL-SUNNA ( PEOPLE OF
THE APPROVED PATH). BUT IF IT IS TRULY EXPRESSED, THEY
ONLY INTEND TO DISTORT THE SUNNAH AND ARDENTLY WISH
THAT THE MUSLIMS SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR VIEWS AND SHOULD
ACCEPT SUCH SUPERSTITIOUS AND FABULOUS THINGS AS HAVE
BEEN WOVEN BY THE HANDS OF THE JEWS-SUCH AS LIES
ATTRIBUTEDTO ALLAH THAT THE DOGMA OF BADA, IS A
REALITY, AND THAT THE BOOK OF ALLAH (NAMELY, THE
QUR'AN) AS IT IS AVAILABLE IN OUR HANDS IS NOT GENUINE
BUT IS IN A CORRUPTED FORM, AND IS FULL OF
ALTERATIONS, AS REGARDS THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH THE
SHI'ITES BELIEVE THAT THE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL IN HIS
MISSION AS AFTER HIS DEATH, HIS FOLLOWERS TURNED AWAY
FROM ISLAM WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THREE FOR FOUR. IN
RESPECT OF HIS COMPANIONS (SAHABAH) WHO HAVE BEEN THE
REAL PROPAGATORS OF THE DIN THEY HOLD THAT THEY WERE
TRAITORS AND RENEGADES, INCLUDING ABU BAKAR, UMAR AND
UTHMAN. AS REGARS THE WIVES OF THE PROPHET (SAW), THE
MOTHERS OF THE FAITHFUL, INCLUDING AMONG THEM THE
NOBLEST AND PUREST OF THEM AS TESTIFIED BY ALLAH
HIMSELF IN HIS BOOK, THE SHI'ITES THINK THAT THEY WERE
TREACHEROUS UNTO ALLAH AND HIS MESSENGER. AND AS
REGARDS THE VARIOUS IMAMS (LEADERS) OF RELIGION LIKE
MALIK, ABU HANIFA, AL SHAFI'I AND AHMAD BIN HANBAL --
MAY ALLAH BE PLEASED WITH THEM AND BE MERCIFUL UNTO
THEM ALL -- THE SHI'ITS HOLD THAT THESE WERE
UNBELIEVERS AND REJECTED.

THE SHIAS ARE NOTHING BUT A TOOL IN THE HANDS OF THE
JEWS WHO ARE WREAKING VENGEANCE AGAINST ISLAM
MUSLIMS'' SO OBSERVES ALLAMA AHSAN ELAHI ZAHEER IN HIS
BOOK THE SHIITES AND THE SUNNAH. THE ALLAMA WRITES
FURTHER IN HIS BOOK:

THE JEWS ARE NESTLING A DEEP-ROOTED RANCOUR AGAINST
THE MUSLIMS AND MORE ESPECIALLY AGAINST THE LEADING
COMPANIONS OF THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH AND THOSE WHO
TREAD IN THEIR PATH WHENEVER THERE BEFELL A
CLAMITY OR WHENEVER THERE ACCURED A DISASTER AND
WHENEVER THERE CAME DOWN A CATASTROPHE UPON THE
MUSLIMS, IT IS ALWAYS DUE TO SHIA CONSPIRACIES. LOOK
AT BAGHDED! IT IS DYED RED WITH ITS BLOOD SPLIT AT THE
HANDS OF IBN AL-ALQAMI. (PAGES 8--21).

FROM THIS IT IS NOTED THAT WHOEVER OPPOSED THE SHIA
ALWAYS SAID: THE SHIA AND THE RAFIDA HAVE TAKEN THEIR
ORIGIN FROM JUDAISM.

RAFIDA ARE THOSE WHO REJECTED ZAID IBN ALI WHEN THE
LATTER REFUSED TO CONDEMN THE SHAIKHAIN, ABU BAKAR AND
UMAR AND TO REJECT THEIR CALIPHATE. RAFD MEANS
REJECTION OF THE CALIPHATE/ CALIPHSHIP OF HAZRAT ABU
BAKAR AND UMAR.

THE MAJLIS-UL-ULAMA OF SOUTH AFRICA (P.O. BOX 3393,
PORT ELIZABETH, REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA) IS BRINGING
OUT A SERIES OF PAMPHLETS ON VARIOUS ASPECTS OF
SHIAISM IN ORDER TO MAKE A SURVEY OF THE BASIS OF SHIA
DOCTRINES, THE PRINCIPLES OF THEIR FAITH, AND THE
BASIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SHIA AND AHL AL-SUNNAH
(SUNNI MUSLIMS). IN SUCH A SERIES THE SHIAS COULD ALSO
KNOW THE REALITY OF THEIR DOCTRINES WHICH WERE
ORIGINALLY REARED AND NURTURED BY THE JEWS WHO LATTER
PLANTED THESE IN THE MUSLIM WORLD. IT IS AN IGNOBLE
STIGMA ON THE FAIR NAME OF ISLAM.

[IslamCity] Top US Bishop Accused of Sex Abuse in the Land of the FREE

2006-03-11 Thread Alan Border

Top U.S. Bishop Accused of Sex AbuseBy JOHN K. WILEY, Associated Press Writer Wed Mar 8, 10:48 PM EThttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060309/ap_on_re_us/church_abuse_spokaneSPOKANE, Wash. - A woman has
filed a claim that she was sexually abused more than 40 years ago by Bishop William Skylstad, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops and leader of the Spokane Diocese. Skylstad issued a statement Wednesday categorically denying the accusation, saying he has not violated the vow of celibacy he took 47 years ago.The claim was filed against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Spokane on Dec. 27 by a woman who said she was under the age of 18 when Skylstad sexually abused her at St. Patrick's Parish and at Gonzaga University from December 1961 to December 1964. Skylstad, 70, was a student at Gonzaga University from 1962-1966 and taught mathematics to students at Mater Cleri Seminary at Colbert, north of Spokane. The diocese is one of three in the nation that filed for bankruptcy protection to deal with claims of sexual abuse by clergy. Skylstad last month offered to settle with 75 victims for $45.7 million. The woman's claim was filed as a result of the bankruptcy "proof of claims" process, the diocese said.Victims of clergy sexual abuse have until Friday to file claims. Greg Arpin, an attorney representing the diocese, said there were
a total of 135 claims as of Wednesday morning, including the original 75 who would be covered by the settlement. The woman's claim was first reported Wednesday by the Spokesman-Review newspaper of Spokane. It is unclear under the reforms American bishops adopted in 2002 for responding to abuse claims whether Skylstad should temporarily step down while his case is being investigated. The policy requires Catholic officials to determine whether there is "sufficient evidence" supporting the allegations against a cleric before they
take him out of public ministry while a full review is conducted under Vatican oversight. In its statement, the diocese said protocols for dealing with sex abuse allegations were being followed, and that Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Vatican's Apostolic Nuncio to the United States in Washington, D.C., had been notified of the claim. Stephen Rubino, a lawyer hired by the woman's legal team, said he knows little about the filing but was asked to verify her claim. He said a bankruptcy court's confidentiality order limits what he
can say about the claim. "We have a minimum three months of work before any conclusions can be made regarding anything," Rubino said by telephone from Philadelphia. "This is complicated by the fact that she is overseas. It is complicated by records that are 45 years old and scattered across the country. And it is complicated by the emotional issues this woman is facing."Rubino represented a man who claimed in the early 1990s that he was sexually abused by the late Chicago Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. The case was dropped in 1994
when the man recanted. David Clohessy, national director for Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said the woman's allegation should be taken seriously, despite Skylstad's denial. "I think, given the horrific history, virtually every allegation should be treated seriously and investigated promptly," he said by phone from St. Louis.AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be their return; then it will be for us to call them to account." [IslamCity] Immigrating to a Non-Muslim Country for Work

2006-03-11 Thread Shahid Khan

Immigrating to a Non-Muslim Country for Work

Muslims can live in any place and in any country. However, there are some basic Islamic rules about migration, which differ according to the circumstances in one s country and in the prospective country.

Muslim Shariah scholars have divided hijrah, or migration, into four categories: fard (obligatory), haram (forbidden), makruh (disliked), and mubah (permissible).

Immigration is fard when you are forced to change your religion and cannot freely establish your faith in your location, in such case you have to move to another area where you can worship Allah without restraint.

It is haram to immigrate for an evil purpose, to corrupt your faith, or to cause mischief in the land.
It becomes makruh if you feel your religion will come under great risk (in the new land). It is not recommended for Muslims to migrate to the lands where their and their descendants religion might be at risk.

And it is mubah if you make sure your faith will remain strong and you will benefit from the new location you want to move to.

Therefore, before you immigrate to any country, you have to make sure your faith will be solid and that you will be able to keep the religious identity of your children safe in face of temptations and evil surroundings. If you are able to do this, then you can move to any place you want.

[IslamCity] Holocaust: Helmut Kohl agrees with Ahmadinejad on Holocaust

2006-03-11 Thread Islahonline

From: Media Watch

Iran: Helmut Kohl
agrees with Ahmadinejad on Holocaust
http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6085

Mon. 06 Mar 2006

Tehran,
Iran, Mar. 06 – Former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl reportedly told Iranian
businessmen in Germany that he agreed with statements by Iranian President
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Holocaust was a " myth",
the semi-official Jomhouri Islami reported on Monday. The
government-owned daily wrote that at a dinner gala with Iranian hoteliers and
entrepreneurs, Kohl said that he "heartily agreed" with Ahmadinejad's remarks
about the Holocaust. "What Ahmadinejad said about
the Holocaust was in our bosoms", the former German chancellor was quoted
as saying. "For years we wanted to say this, but we did not
have the courage to speak out". Ahmadinejad caused an
international furore last year when he publicly declared that the Holocaust was
a "myth" and threatened that Israel must be "wiped
off the map". His comments were supported by senior Iranian officials,
including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and former president Ayatollah
Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. The country's state-run media have
systematically defended the position of the Iranian president and given
extensive coverage to historians and "experts" who deny the Holocaust took
place.

Iran's conference on Holocaust
denial begins on Tuesday
http://www.iranfocus.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6081

Tehran, Iran, Mar. 05 – Iran will host a conference
on the Holocaust in Tehran on Tuesday, the state-run news agency Mehr reported
on Sunday. The seminar, dubbed "The Holocaust: myth or reality?", has
been organised by the Bassij, a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards
Corps, the report said. Several "anti-Zionist Jewish rabbis are in
Tehran to take part in the conference", the news agency added.Iran's
hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad caused an international furore last year
when he publicly declared that the Holocaust was a "myth" and threatened that
Israel must be "wiped off the map". His comments were supported by
senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and
former president Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.Ahmadinejad has
been making a series of speeches, describing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as
"the central front in the war of Islam and Global Arrogance", a reference to the
West. The radical president has been calling on Islamic nations and
Muslims to unite to defeat the West in a jihad, or holy war.The
country's state-run media have given extensive coverage to historians and
"experts" who deny the Holocaust took place. In its Wednesday edition,
the hard-line daily Kayhan, which reflects the views of Iran's Supreme Leader
Ayatollah, gave prominence to a new book, the latest in some 300 anti-Semitic
books in Persian that adorn Tehran's bookshops. In addition to daily
articles and commentaries in the government-owned press denying the Holocaust,
the chairman of Iran's cartoonists association, Masoud Shojai, set up a website,
www.irancartoon.com, to put on
display drawings and cartoons ridiculing the
Holocaust.

[IslamCity] (977) - Don't Be Sad - Blessings In Disguise(1)

2006-03-11 Thread Souladvisor

Daily Reminder [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu, I pray that this reaches you in the best of health and Eeman. “And indeed We have destroyed towns [populations] round about you.” Surah Al-Ahqaf – Ayah 27. There is the tragic example of the Barmak family, a family that lived a life of opulence, comfort, and extravagance. Their end, however, has served as a lesson and example for all Arabs who came after them. Haroon ar-Rasheed, the ruler during their period, ordered an unexpected attack on the Barmak family and on their possessions. Allah’s decree came to pass over them in the morning at the hands of the closest person to them: he destroyed their homes, took possession of their slaves, and shed their blood. Their loved ones and children wept at their disgrace. There is none worthy of
worship except Allah; those who know the story should especially appreciate the transitory nature of power and wealth in this world: “Then take admonition, O’ you with eyes [to see].” Surah Al-Hashr – Ayah 2. Only one hour before their downfall, they were strutting in silks, full of joy and complacency, feeling secure from harm, unaware of the vicissitudes of life. “And you dwelt in the dwellings of men who wronged themselves, and it was clear to you how We had dealt with them. And We put forth [many] parables for you.” Surah Ibrahim – Ayah 45. They swaggered in their life of play; however, sadly for them, they mistook the mirage for water and this life for eternal existence. They wrongly thought that justice would not overtake them and that vindication would not come about for the wronged. “...and they thought that they would never return to Us.” Surah Al-Qasas – Ayah

[IslamCity] Smoking Haram-Why?

2006-03-11 Thread seashells 137

Smoking Haram-Why? The declaration that "There is no God Worthy of being worshipped except Allah that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah", demands that the Muslim accepts the Decrees set by Allah and by His Messenger-Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) Islam is a Revelation from Allah with a complete code of life. It tells what is good and what is evil: Allah says in the Holy Quran: And We have shown him (man) the two ways (good and evil). (Quran 90/10) He allows them all that is good and lawful, and prohibits them as unlawful all that is evil (things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, drinks, etc.). (Quran 7/157)So, is smoking (cigarettes, pipes, etc.) evil or not? Let us examine its effects:* Smoking is a killer: causes lung-cancer, lung-tuberculosis and heart diseases.Allah says: And do not kill yourselves. (Quran 4/29)He also says: And do not throw
yourselves into destruction. (Quran 2/195)These verses are sufficient to make smoking Haram.* Smoking is a wasting of wealth. Allah says: ...But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift, Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the devils, and the Devil (Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord. (Quran 17/26-27)* The smoker is unjust to himself as well as his family by burning away his money and his chest!* The smoker not only causes harm to himself, he/she also inflicts harms upon others around him/her.The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said: "There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm." (Saheeh Al-Jami 7517)* The smokers cause the spread of evil; they smoke openly and thus encourage others to do the same.* The smokers dislike fasting and praying because they become impatient. They
want to go for the next "round". The smoker becomes like an edict.* The smoker smells bad! His car, home, clothes etc. carry the bad smell too. From the above, it is clear that smoking is evil and thus it is Haram (unlawful). If you are under any kind of stress, then turn to Allah, read the Holy Quran, and be with non-smokers. Seek Allah's help and don’t be enslaved to something that burns you and your money. To all those who
expressed concern about references to the Prophet Mohammed on the
Epilepsy Toronto
website,

We’d like to thank you
for bringing your concerns to our attention, and for sharing with us
your perspective that calls into question the authenticity of
historical writings linking Mohammed and epilepsy. As a gesture
of respect, and in the interest of goodwill between communities, we
have decided to remove these references from our site.

At the same time, it’s
important to us that you understand our position that epilepsy in no
way diminishes the value of a human being, great or otherwise.
Far too long has epilepsy been misunderstood and stigmatized in this
world. It needs to be seen that people with epilepsy are
people, first and foremost, no different than you and I, with
dignity and humanity. This is our mantra. We need to
know that, when your brother or friend or neighbor has a seizure,
they will not be treated differently or with any less respect than
others, and that you will stand by their side defending their rights
with the same sort of passion that you have expressed to us
regarding your faith.

We hope
too, that you will see this encounter as an opportunity for further
dialogue and new learning between us, and extend our hand to you in
the service of the Toronto Muslim epilepsy
community.Perhaps, together, we can set an example for
the rest of the world to follow.
Respectfully
yours,

We learn from
theteachings of our Prophet Muhammad, Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa
sallam that he, Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam used different approaches in
dealing with different mistakes, but always in the best of aadab
(manners). Correcting mistakesis apart of the
wahy (revelation) and the methodology of the Holy Qur`aan, as
Allaah Subhaanahuu wa Ta`aala tells us (meaning of the
translations):
"You are the best community (ummah) raised up
for (the benefit of) humanity, enjoining what is right and
