Re: [IslamCity] A Glimpse at Islam Sufism in the Balkans

2006-04-04 Thread F. Saad

Assalamu alaikum Here are some fatwas regarding sufism: Question : In the sufis thariqa' there was a term call syari'a,thariqa',haqiqa' and ma'rifah. Is this term really have been tought by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)to his companion according to the definition by the thariqa' it self. Answer : Praise be to Allaah. We must understand that the word al-soofiyyah (Sufism) refers to wearing woollen clothes [the Arabic word soof means “wool”] and nothing else. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The word al-soofiyyah (Sufism) refers to wearing woollen clothes; this is the correct meaning. It was said that it comes from the word safwat al-fuqaha’ (the elite of the fuqaha’) or from Soofah ibn Add ibn Taanijah, an Arab tribe that was known for its asceticism, or from Ahl al-Suffah (poor Muslims in Madeenah at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who used to stay in the mosque), or from al-Safa (the mountain in Makkah), or from the word al-safwah (meaning elite), or from the phrase al-saff al-muqaddam bayna yaday Allaah (the foremost rank before Allaah). All of these views are weak (da’eef); if any of them were true then the word would be saffi or safaa’i or
safawi, not sufi. Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 11/195 Sufism (tasawwuf) did not appear until after the first three generations which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) praised when he said, “The best of mankind is my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them…” (narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2652; Muslim, 2533; from the hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood). Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: With regard to the word
soofiyyah (Sufism), it was not known during the first three generations, rather it became known after that. Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 11/5 This tareeqah and its like are among the innovated ways that go against the Qur’aan and Sunnah and the way followed by the best generations. All the shaykhs of these tareeqahs have made up their own wirds (phrases to be uttered as dhikr), hizb (books of du’aa’ to be read daily by their followers) and ways of worship by which each of them may be distinguished from the others; this goes against sharee’ah and divides the ummah. Allaah has blessed this ummah by
perfecting its religion and completing His Favour upon it, so everyone who comes up with an act of worship or a way that was not brought by sharee’ah is effectively rejecting what Allaah has said and accusing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) of betraying the trust. Along with this innovation of theirs, they may also be lying by claiming that they received their tareeqah from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), or that they are following the path and guidance of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs (al-khulafa’ al-raashideen). The scholars of the Standing Committee were asked: Is there any such thing in Islam as the numerous tareeqahs like the Shaadhilyyah, Khalwatiyyah etc? If there is such a thing, what is the evidence for that? What is the meaning of the verses in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His path. This He has ordained for you that you may become AlMuttaqoon (the pious)” [al-An’aam 6:153] “And upon Allaah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path. But there are
ways that turn aside (such as Paganism, Judaism, Christianity). And had He willed, He would have guided you all (mankind)” [al-Nahl 16:9] What are the ways that separate people from the path of Allaah, and what is the way of Allaah? What is the meaning of the hadeeth narrated by Ibn Mas’ood, according to which the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) drew a line and said, “This is the path of guidance,” then he drew lines to its right and another to its left and said, “These are other paths and on each path there is a devil calling people to it”? They answered: There is no such thing in Islam as the tareeqahs that you mentioned, or anything else like them. What there is in Islam is what is indicated by the two verses and the hadeeth that you quoted, and what was indicated by the hadeeth in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The Jews split into seventy-one sects, and the Christians split into seventy-two sects. My ummah will split into seventy-three sects, all of which will be in Hell except one.” It was asked, “Who are they, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said, “Those who follow the same path as I and my companions are on today.” And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “A group among my ummah will continue to follow the truth and to be victorious, and they will not be harmed
by those who forsake them or oppose them, until the command of Allaah comes to pass when they are like that.” The truth

Iran successfully test-fires new
high-speed torpedoIran conducted its second major test
of a new missile within days, firing a high-speed torpedo that it said no
submarine or warship can escape and boasting of its strength at a time of
increased tensions with the US over its nuclear program. The tests Sunday came
during war games that Irans elite Revolutionary Guards have been holding in the
Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea since Friday. The new torpedo, called "Hoot",
or 'whale', is the fastest known underwater-missile moving at 360 kilometers per
hour (223 miles per hour) - too fast for any vessel to elude. The new weapon
gives Iran superiority against any warship in the region, a Navy spokesperson
said, in a veiled reference to US vessels in the Gulf. It was not immediately
clear whether the torpedo can carry a nuclear
warhead.

Militants kill 5 policemen in
southern Afghan attackSuspected Taleban militants shot
dead five policemen and wounded three others in southern Afghanistan. The
policemen were attacked on Sunday by four gunmen on two motorcycles in Charbagh,
a southwestern residential neighborhood of Kandahar. He spoke on condition of
anonymity because he was unauthorized to talk to the media. A purported Taleban
spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack. Earlier Sunday, an official
said a Taleban rebel posing as a traveler shot dead four policemen as they slept
at a remote checkpoint late Friday in the southern Helmand province. Taleban
insurgents have stepped up attacks on Afghanistans fledgling police recently,
and a series of ambushes in the neighboring provinces of Helmand and Kandahar
has seen scores of officers
killed.

Four reported dead in fresh Kurdish

bus in Istanbul late Sunday, resulting in three deaths, as Kurdish riots
rattling southeast Turkey for six days spead to the west. Another person was
killed in clashes in the predominantly Kurdish southeast, bringing the death
toll from a week of violence to 12. A group of protestors hurled a molotov
cocktail onto a bus in Istanbuls Bagcilar suburb and an elderly woman who got
off in panic from the burning vehicle was hit by a car in the street, dying in
hospital. Two more bodies were recovered after police removed the wreckage of
the bus, which crashed into a truck while maneuvering to escape the hit. A
fourth person, a 22-year-old Kurdish man, was killed by gunfire in the
southeastern town of Kiziltepe, near the Syrian border, where street battles
between rioters and the police flared for a second day in
row.

Baghdad on Sunday. In Baqouba, 55 kilometers (35 miles) northeast of Baghdad,
unidentified gunmen planted explosives around the small Guba mosque and blew it
up, police said. No casualties were reported. Meanwhile, police reported the
discovery of nearly 40 more bodies in several neighbourhoods of Baghdad. The
continued violence put more pressure on Iraqi politicians to form a new
government to quell the killings and halt what the west claims are 'sectarian
death squads'. Dozens of corpses in Baghdad were found on Saturday in several
neighbourhoods including Sadr City, Dora, Baiyaa, Amariyah and Obeidi, according
to the police. They were all handcuffed, and had been shot in the head or
chest.

years prison in SyriaA researcher and a human rights
activist was sentenced on Sunday by Syrias State Security Court to five years
in prison on charges of disseminating false information, inciting sectarian
riots and forming a secret organization, a human rights activist said. Riyadh
Darar, a human rights activist, was arrested last June after delivering a speech
during the funeral of a Kurdish Sheikh, Ammar Qurabi. No comment was available
from Syrian officials, who routinely decline to comment on such reports. Since

Hatem Asem(Rahmatullah Alayh) was the student of Shaqiq Balakhi
(Rahmatullah Alayh) for a considerable period of time.
Shaqiq Balakhi(Rahmatullah Alayh) once asked Hatem: How long are you
in my company?
Hatem said: For the last 33 years.
Shaqiq enquired: What have you learnt from me during this period?
Hatem said: I have learnt only eight things.
Shaqiq said: You have not learnt anything except eight things!
Hatem replied: Yes, O dear teacher, I have learnt nothing except
eight things. I don't wish to speak falsehood.
Shaqiq said: Describe those eight things to me. Let me hear them.
Hatem began to describe them.

First, I looked around and beheld that every man has got an object of
love and he lives with that thing, until his death. When he goes to
the grave, it becomes separate from him. I pondered over the
following words of God: We are from God and to Him we shall return.
So I have made good deeds as my object of love. When I will go to the
grave, my good deeds will accompany me to the grave. The sage Shaqiq
said: O Hatem, you have done well.

Secondly, I have pondered over the following words of God As for one
who fears the majesty of his Lord and refrains his soul from lust,
Paradise is his resting place - {79: 40 Qur'an}. I have come to know
that the words of God are true. I have tried my utmost to suppress my
lust and remained satisfied with obeying the injunctions of God.

Third, I looked around the people and found that everyone values what
he possesses. Then I turned to the following words of God: What is
with you will end and what is with God will last - {16:98 Qur'an}
Then I began to give unto God whatever valuable things fell into my
hands.

Fourth, I looked around and saw that everyone puts his trust in his
wealth and properties, his name and fame and his honour and glory and
found that there is nothing in them. Then I looked towards the
following words of God: The most honourable of you to God is one who
is the most God-fearing among you - {49: 13 Qur'an}. Then I intended
to accept God-fear in my life till I am honoured by God.

Fifth, I looked around the people and found them slandering and
cursing one another because of envy and hatred and then I looked
towards the words of God: It is I who distributed their subsistence
among them in this world's life - {43: 31 Qur'an}. So I gave up envy
and hatred and I realised that subsistence comes from God and then I
disliked the people no more.

Sixth, I looked to the people and found them ungrateful to one
another and even some of them kill others and then I looked towards
the following word of God: The devil(shaytaan) is your foe and so
take him as foe - {35. 6 Qur'an}. So I took the devil(shaytaan) as a
foe and ceased to have enmity with the people.

Seventh, I turned to the people and found everyone seeking his
livelihood and for that debasing himself and committing unlawful
things and then I looked towards the following words of God- There
is no living Creation on earth of which the provision is not upon
God - {11 : 6 Qur'an}. Finding that I am one of the Creation whose
provision is upon God, I turned towards the duties prescribed by God
and entrusted my fate unto Him.

Eighth, I turned to the people and found that everyone placed his
trust in something created, some in his wealth, some in his
profession, some in his industry and some in the health of his body
and then looked towards the following words of God: If a man relies
on God, He is sufficient for him - {65: 3 Qur'an}. Then I relied on
God and He is sufficient for me.

On hearing Hatem's replies, Shadiq(Rahmatullah Alayh) exclaimed;
Hatem, may Allah, Our Creator prosper you. I examined the Torah, the
Injeel(orignal Bible), the Zabur (Psalms) and the Glorious Qur'an and
found that all these centre around these eight things and he who puts
them into practice follows these four books(in their ORIGNAL form).

SUMMARY OF THE LESSONS:
We are from Allah and to Him we shall return. {2:56 Qur'an}.
As for one who fears the majesty of his Lord and refrains his soul
from lust, Paradise is his resting place - {79: 40 Qur'an}
What is with you will end and what is with Allah will last - {16:98
Qur'an}
The most honourable of you to Allah is one who is the most God-
fearing among you - {49: 13 Qur'an}.
It is I who distributed their subsistence among them in this world's
life - {43: 31 Qur'an}.
The devil(shaytaan) is your foe and so take him as foe - {35: 6
Qur'an}.
There is no living Creation on earth of which the provision is not
upon Allah - {11 : 6 Qur'an}
If a man relies on Allah, He is sufficient for him - {65: 3 Qur'an}.

On the contrary the country I live in is so open in this sense anyone can follow the religion that's more convenient. I have seen these falsfications back in 1999 and actually got a copy of the
so-called reasearch. Frankly, the author made numerous spurious assmuptions
in this regard. For example, he claimed that Arabic was not a written
language during the Prophet Muhammed. This is of course unture. Arabic was a
written language well before the Prophet. The Mua'alaqat, the epics of
Arabic poetry were posted inside the Ka'aba. Also, the boycott document,
whereby the idolaters of Quraish pledged to boycott the Muslims, was also
posted in the Ka'aba until it was eaten out by roaches and other insects.
Furthermore, it is historically well-known that the Hudaibiya treaty between
the Muslims and Qurayesh was written down on. More to the point, it is well
known that the Prophet wrote letters to the Kings of persia, Egypt and
Byzantize empre , declaring his Prophethood.

Needless to say, the German author bases his entire theiss on the premises
that Arabic was not a written language during the time of the Prophet, a
premises that is absolutely and totally wrong.

Thus that which is based on falsehood is false.

5105: Refutation of those who try to prove that the Qur'aan is not true

 Question:

Recently I became aware of some scholarly research done by German scholars
into the inerrancy of the Quran. Some of their findings are discussed in
an Atlantic Monthly article entitled What Is the Koran? written by Toby
Lester, published in the January 1999 issue of that magazine. The gist of
their research is that some very old fragments of the Quran found in a
mosque in Yemen show small but significant aberrations from the standard
Quranic texts. In some cases, the writing on the fragments found had been
washed off and different writing substituted overtop. The article tries to
cast doubt on the Muslim view of the Quran as being absolutely reliable,
and tries to show instead that it is a literary text that has been subject
to change just like any other.

I am not a Muslim, but I know that the Quran holds a position in Islam
that is similar to that of Christ in Christianity. In view of this, sir,
how would you respond to these attempts to dispute the absolute inerrancy
of the Quran? In your view, do these scholars have false motives that
render their findings untrustworthy? Or do you have another response to
these attacks on the verity of the Quran?.

 Answer:

 Praise be to Allaah.

1 _ The proof that the copies of the Holy Qur'aan that we have before us
is not just one or two pieces of evidence, rather it is proven by a vast
amount of evidence that no fair-minded person can study without becoming
convinced that it is exactly as Allaah revealed it to Muhammad (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him).

2 _ There have been generations coming one after another, reciting the
Book of Allaah and studying it, memorizing it and writing it down. They
have not omitted a single letter, and no one can change even the vowel
 point of a single letter. Writing is just one means of preserving it;
basically it is preserved in their hearts.

3 _ The Qur'aan has not come down to us on its own, such that the
so-called alterations could be made. Rather the interpretation of its
verses, the meanings of its words, the reasons for its revelation, the
grammar of its words and the commentary on its rulings have all been
transmitted. When such care has been given to this Book, how could sinful
hands find a way to distort even one letter of it, or add a word, or take
 away a verse?

4 _ The Qur'aan speaks of matters of the unseen, in the future, which
Allaah revealed to His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah
be upon him) to show him that they came from Allaah. If a human being
wants to write a book, he can describe an event or express a point of
view, but if any human being were to speak about matters of the unseen, in
this field he can only base that on speculation and lies. But the Qur'aan
told of the defeat of the Romans by the Persians, at the time when there
was no means of communication to inform the Arabs of this event. The same
verses also foretold that they (the Persians) would be defeated after a
certain number of years. If what the Qur'aan said was not accurate, then
the kaafirs would have had a great opportunity to criticize the Qur'aan.

5 _ If you read any verse of the Qur'aan, then you go to America or Asia
or the jungles of Africa, or to the deserts of Arabia or any place where
there are Muslims, you will find that all of them have the exact same
verse, memorized by heart or in their books; not a single letter of it
 will have been altered.

[IslamCity] Upon Discovering That Wife Is An Apostate

2006-04-04 Thread Alan Border

Upon Discovering That Wife Is An Apostate http://www.ourdialogue.com/answers/articles.php?action="">Question A Muslim married a Christian woman and after a few months discovers that his wife was originally a Muslim and converted to Christianity at a later time. What if she is pregnant? Should he detain her until she gives birth to his child? Answer I should perhaps first of all explain that when a Muslim man or woman becomes an apostate, either because he or
she no longer believes in Islam or because they do something which takes them out of the fold of Islam altogether, their marriage is automatically dissolved. It is not up to the husband to divorce his apostate wife. Their marriage is no longer valid. In the case of the woman becoming apostate, the scholars have different opinions on whether she observes a waiting period before she leaves the family home or not. Sometimes conditions impose themselves, as when the woman herself leaves her husband’s home and is unwilling to observe a waiting period. Her former husband cannot detain her in such conditions. As for the children of such a marriage including the child not yet born, they are Muslims whether the spouse who becomes a non-Muslim is the father or the mother. The rule in Islam is that children follow the higher faith of their parents. Islam is the highest, followed by Christianity, then Judaism and then non-divine religions. In the case of apostasy of either one of the parents who initially were Muslims, obviously the children remain with the parent who remains a Muslim. As for inheritance, the apostate, man or woman does not inherit any of his or her relatives whether Muslims or not. Nor indeed, is his or her estate shared out by any of the heirs. This is due to the fact that
the Prophet, peace be upon him, says that inheritance does not apply between the followers of different religions. In the case of a change of religion, this rule is applied most strictly to an apostate so as to preclude any inheritance. It is important to realize that although a Muslim may marry a Christian woman, he may not marry a woman who has become Christian as a result of conversion from Islam. To him she is an apostate and no marriage with an apostate is valid. If a Muslim goes through a marriage ceremony, with apostate women, she does not become his wife. He may not treat her as such. If he does not know her
background and is unaware of the fact that she had been a Muslim and became a Christian convert, no blame is attached to him if he marries her. But once he discovers that she was formerly a Muslim, his marriage is automatically dissolved. Obviously if there are any children, they are Muslims because their father is Muslim. If she is pregnant at the time of dissolution of the marriage, then the child belongs to the father when it is born. It may occur to someone that the mother may be able to take the child away, especially if she does not stay for her waiting period. In this case, someone may suggest that it is preferable to abort the pregnancy.
Islamic law cannot sanction that. Abortion is not something to be recommended or approved for any reason, except when the pregnancy constitutes a serious health threat to the mother. Question If the husband divorces his wife on learning that she is an apostate, should he detain her during her waiting period? Answer The husband in this case should not try to detain the woman forcibly until she gives birth or she finishes her waiting period. As we have already seen, scholars have different opinions about whether such a woman should spend her waiting period in the man’s home, as every divorcee is entitled to do. If such a case happens in an Islamic state, then the man may seek the help of the authorities to ensure that the woman observes the waiting period and gives up the child when it is born. The need for detaining the woman by the man himself does not arise. If the matter arises in a non-Muslim state or in a
situation which is similar to the one which prevails today in most Muslim countries, the man may be considered to have committed an offense if he tries to detain the woman forcibly. It is far better for him, then, not to take the law into his own hands. Question Is the husband expected to punish his wife for apostasy? Answer It is true that the punishment for apostasy is death. But this falls under the domain of the Muslim ruler. As for divorcing her, there is no divorce to take place. The marriage is automatically dissolved. Secondly, the enforcement of the punishment for apostasy as legalized by Islam is the responsibility of the Muslim ruler. There is a procedure, which must be followed. That procedure involves a discussion and an argument with the apostate which aims at explaining to him or her the true nature of the religion of Islam and to answer his or her doubts and refute the reasons which compelled him or her to convert to
 another religion. After doing

Subject: [IslamCity] Assalamu alaikum rahmatu Allah wa barakatu.

Assalamu alaikum rahmatu Allah wa barakatu. I have a question. I have an
eight month old son and it is very hard to find babies for him to play with.
I met this girl who's husband is muslim but doesn't pray. Her son is
supposevly muslim too (her baby boy). She on the other hand is christian. I
tried giving her dawah. And giving her books about Islam and Qur'an. She is
a little bit interested. But my question is, it is ok to be her friend? I am
a little confused about this issue. Please somebody explain.

Quran:surahÂl-'Imrân,ayah 15. Shall I inform you of things far better than
those? For Al-Muttaqûn the pious there are Gardens(Paradise)with their

[IslamCity] The Worst of all Creatures-in the Light of Quran and Sunnah

2006-04-04 Thread Khalid
The worst of all creatures--in the light of Qur'aan and Sunnah

1) The disbelievers: Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of
Islam, the Qur'aan and Prophet Muhammad) from among the people of the
Scripture (Jews and Christians) and Al-Mushrikoon will abide in the
fire of Hell. They are the worst of creatures [Bayyinah:6]

2) Allah's Messenger (pbuh) said: Verily there would arise from my
Ummah after me or soon after me a group (of people) who would recite
the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throats, and they would
pass clean through their religion just as the arrow passes through the
prey, and they would never come back to it. They would be the worst
among the creation and the creatures. (Muslim)

3) Evil-doers: Someone asked the Prophet (pbuh): Which of the people
is worst? He said: The one who lives long and does evil. (Ahmad,
al-Tirmidhi; saheeh by al-Albaani)

4) The one who curses and oppresses: The Prophet said, O 'Aisha! The
worst people are those whom the people desert or leave in order to
save themselves from their dirty language or from their
transgression. (Bukhari)

5) Picture-makers: Um Habiba and Um Salama mentioned about a church
they had seen in Ethiopia in which there were pictures. They told the
Prophet about it, on which he said, If any religious man dies amongst
those people they would build a place of worship at his grave and make
these pictures in it. They will be the worst creature in the sight of
Allah on the Day of Resurrection. (Bukhaari, Muslim)

6) The Hypocrite: The Prophet said, The worst people in the Sight of
Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the double faced people who
appear to some people with one face and to other people with another
face.(Bukhaari)

The worst of matters:

Innovations in religion: The worst of matters are Bid'ah (those
which are newly-invented/introduced into the religion) and every
innovation is a going-astray. (Muslim)

The worst of major sins:

1) Shirk: Allah forgives not (the sin of) joining other gods with
Him; but He forgives whom He pleases other sins than this; the one who
joins other gods with Allah has strayed far, far away (from the
right). (An-Nisa:l16)
Verily! Joining others in worship with Allâh is the highest
wrong-doing. (Luqman:13)

2) Disobeying Parents and False Speech: The Messenger of Allaah (pbuh)
said: Shall I not tell you of the worst of major sins? We said: Yes,
O Messenger of Allaah. He said: Associating anything with Allaah,
disobeying one's parents, and he was lying down but he sat up and
said: And false speech and false testimony, and false speech and
false testimony, and he kept saying it until we wished that he would
stop (out of compassion towards him). (Bukhaari, Muslim)

3) Murder and fornication: Narrated `Abdullah: I asked the Prophet,
What is the greatest sin in the Sight of Allah? He said, That you
set up a rival unto Allah though He Alone created you. Then asked,
What is next? He said, To kill your son lest he should share your
food with you. I asked, What is next? He said, To commit adultery
with the wife of your neighbor.
4) Sodomy: And (remember) Loot, when he said to his people: Do you
commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the
`Aalameen (mankind and jinn)? [al-A'raaf:80]

The worst lie:

1)Lying about dreams: Allah's Apostle said, The worst lie is that a
person claims to have seen a dream which he has not seen.(Bukhaari)

2) Lying about genealogy: Allah's Apostle said, Verily, one of the
worst lies is to claim falsely to be the son of someone other than
one's real father….. (Bukhaari)

3) Fabricating or quoting false hadeeth: Verily, one of the worst
lies is….to attribute to me what I have not said. (Bukhaari)

4) Suspicion: The Prophet said, Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is
the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and
do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert
(cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and
O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!)(Bukhaari)
The worst rows in prayer:
The best rows for men are the first rows, and the worst one the last
ones, and the best rows for women are the last ones and the worst ones
for them are the first ones. (Muslim)

The worst ruler:
1)The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: ….the worst of your rulers are
those whom you hate and who hate you and whom you curse and who curse
you. It was asked: Shouldn't we overthrow them with the help of the
sword? He said: No, as long as they establish prayer among you. If you
then find anything detestable in them, you should hate their
administration, but do not withdraw yourselves from their obedience.
(Muslim)
2) The worst of guardians is the cruel ruler. Beware of being one of
them. (Muslim)

The worst of earnings:
The worst of earnings are the wages of a prostitute, the price of a
dog and the fee of a cupper. (Muslim).

The worst kind of food:
Allah's Apostle (pbuh) said: The
