Boycott Israel [IslamCity] How's your tunnel vision?

2006-07-17 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec

The Tunnel of Fear
By Tim Dickinson
Rolling Stone
Friday 07 July 2006
It's
hard to know what to make of the FBI's reported disruption of a plot to
blow up the Holland Tunnel. But the timing of the leak -- and its
intended political impact -- is indisputable.
Maybe
this was a credible threat. Maybe it was a lot of hot air seethed in an
Internet forum. (By the way, was anyone else disturbed to discover that
when the FBI talks about picking up terrorist "chatter," it's literally
coming from Jihadi chat rooms?!) Whatever the case, we should applaud
the capture of Amir Andalousli in Lebanon. One less Osama wannabe on
the streets of Beirut isn't a bad thing.
But
let's examine the alleged plot: As reported by the Daily News,
Andalousi wanted to drown lower Manhattan by detonating a bomb in the
Holland Tunnel. (UPDATE: The specific targeting of the Holland Tunnel
is now in dispute.) OK, first: The physics are impossible. Worst case
scenario: The tunnel floods. Water in the tube isn't going to magically
spout out the mouth and make Wall Street look like the Lower 9th Ward.
Even the directors of that Stallone Holland Tunnel epic Daylight would
have found that plot device implausible. So shame on the Daily News for
fearmongering with its coverline: "Gang sought to flood downtown."
Now let's turn to the timing. Here's the most important line in the piece:

FBI
and New York City Police Department officials would not comment about
the investigation, which has been kept under wraps for months.
In
other words, this is old news . . . of an incipient plot . . . that was
defused before it left the chat room. [UPDATE: ABC's The Blotter
reports that Andalousi has been in custody for roughly three months,
since April.]
So
why did someone leak it to a tabloid for publication on today of all
days? Consider: Today is the one-year anniversary of the July 7
bombings in London. It also marks four months to the day from
November's mid-term elections.
Karl
Rove & Co. are, once again, playing the Fear Card in an election
year. Anyone who doubts that simply hasn't been paying attention for
the last five years.
UPDATE: CBS and an ex-CIA spook
question the seriousness of the plot.

Toronto vigil tomorrow for a captured Israeli soldier has been expanded to include prayers for another two soldiers snatched yesterday by Hezbollah militants as the escalating conflict in the Middle East ripples around the globe. The Israel Solidarity Rally, a vigil for Cpl. Gilad Shalit planned by several Jewish and Christian groups for noon outside the Israeli consulate on Bloor St. W., will now include prayers for two soldiers captured and eight others killed yesterday near the Israel-Lebanon border. Also to be memorialized tomorrow are "all those innocent people who have been killed by the terrorists," said Frank Diamant, executive vice-president of B'Nai Brith Canada, which is organizing the vigil. As Israel ratcheted up its military response, launching separate assaults in Gaza and Lebanon that killed at least 23 Palestinians -- including a family of seven children and their parents -- tensions rose and opinions split here and abroad.
Ahmed Motiar, a member of the Muslim Unity Group who helped organize a rally for Palestinian human rights Saturday outside the same consulate, described yesterday's developments as "very grave and very serious."Motiar said the Israeli government is using the capture of its soldiers to justify further territorial expansion. "The capture of Cpl. Shalit is really not the key issue for the Israeli government. They want to reoccupy Gaza and expand the territory of Israel and make life
so miserable that the Palestinians will leave," he said. Previous story: Man shot hours after leaving prisonNext story: Relief greets news sisters safe

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] THE WHOLE OF IRAQ HAS BECOME ABU GHRAIB

2006-07-17 Thread zkentel
The whole of Iraq has become Abu Ghraib

By Haifa Zangana

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article13913.htm

Our streets are prison corridors and our homes cells as the occupiers go about
their strategic humiliation and intimidation.

07/06/06 "The Guardian" -- -- A'beer Qassim al-Janaby, a 15-year-old Iraqi
girl, was with her family in Mahmudiyah, 20 miles south of Baghdad, when US
troops raided the house. A group of soldiers have been charged with her rape
and the murder of her father, mother, and nine-year-old sister. They are also
accused of setting A'beer's body on fire.

The al-Janaby family lived near a US checkpoint, and the killings happened at
2pm on March 11. As usual, a US spokesman ascribed the killings to "Sunni Arab
insurgents active in the area", contrary to local eyewitnesses.

A'beer's rape and murder is neither incidental nor the product of a US
soldier's "personality disorder": it is part of a pattern that includes Abu
Ghraib, as well as the Haditha, Ishaqi and Qaiem
massacres. And we see this pattern as serving a strategic function beyond
indiscriminate revenge: to couple collective humiliation with intimidation and
terror.

Today, four years into the Anglo-American occupation, the whole of Iraq has
become Abu Ghraib, with our streets as prison corridors and homes as cells.
Iraqis are attacked in detention, on the streets and in their homes.

It took almost a year, and published photographs of horrific torture in Abu
Ghraib, before the world began to heed the voices of the detainees and those
trying to defend them. The same is happening to women victims.

Abuses, torture and the rape of Iraqi women have been reported for three years
now by independent Iraqi organisations. But the racist logic of occupation
means that occupied people are not to be trusted, and truth is the private
ownership of the occupiers.

Families of the abused, raped, and killed Iraqi civilians have to wait for
months, if not years, until a US soldier comes forward to admit responsibility
and the US military begins an investigation. (For the US military to
investigate a US soldier's crime has been seen by Iraqis as the killers
investigating their own technical skills.)

On the October 19 2005, Freedom Voice, an Iraqi Human Rights society, reported
the rape of three women from the "Saad Bin Abi Waqqas neighbourhood" in Tell
Afar after a US raid.

The alleged rape took place by soldiers inside the women's own house after the
arrest of their male relatives. Medical sources in the town said one of the
women died. A US commander ordered some soldiers detained, and no more was
heard of this.

Immunity from prosecution under Iraqi or international law is the main fact of
the occupation and renders laughable any claims of sovereignty. It is based on
UN security council resolution 1546 and
the accompanying exchange of letters between Iraqi and American authorities.
This immunity applies equally to the marine units accused of roaming our
streets high on drugs and to advisers running ministries, to prison guards,
security guards, multinational forces and corporate contractors of all kinds.

The Iraqi women's ordeal began the moment occupation forces descended upon
them. Most arrests and raids take place after midnight. In some neighborhoods,
women now sleep fully dressed so as not to be caught in their nightgowns.
Armoured cars and helicopters are sometimes deployed
in raids, in a variant on "shock and awe". Troops force women and children to
watch as they deliberately humiliate their husbands, sons or fathers, and
sometimes order them to take pictures with US soldiers' cameras. Money and
jewellery are taken. Are these "terrorist assets confiscated" or spoils of war?

Random arrests, rapes and killings by the occupation forces continue under the
so-called "national unity government", which renewed their mandate and immunity
while at the same time talking of a "national reconciliation initiative".

Despite all the rhetoric, a female minister for human rights and dozens of
US-funded Iraqi women's organisations, the only outcry we have heard condemning
the rape of A' beer and the plight of Iraqi
women under occupation is from the anti-occupation Islamist movement.

Occupation authorities and their puppet regime share the denial of violence
against women. After the sexual abuse scandal at Abu Ghraib, the authorities
talked about respecting local traditions, and the need to avoid provoking anger
and give the Iraqi people the sense that the occupation recognises the
sensitive status of women.

On occasion, Iraqi collaborators joined in. On April 18 2004, the ministry of
interior chief, Ahmed Youssef, issued a statement denying maltreatment of
female detainees. He said: "We are Muslims. We know very well how to treat our
female detainees." As if violence against women were not a universal crime.

The abuses continue also in the puppet regime's prisons. On October 2

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] The Prophet Muhammed (saws) on Peace.

2006-07-17 Thread Mohamed Ismail
Bismillah Rahman Rahim,

Assalamu alaykum,

Below is the Prophet Muhammed (saws) statements
regarding the Islamic Principle of Peace.

Enjoy :-)

Sallams,

Mohamed

Hadith, or the Sayings of Muhammed (peace and
blessings upon him)

The messenger of God said to me (Anas), 'Son, if you
are able, keep your heart from morning till night and
from night till morning free from malice towards
anyone.'

The best of God's servants are those who, when seen,
remind one of God; and the worst of God's servants are
those who carry tales about to do mischief and
separate friends, and seek for the defects of the
good.

It is unworthy of a believer to injure people's
reputations; and it is unworthy to curse any one; and
it is unworthy to abuse any one; and it is unworthy of
a believer to talk arrogantly.

Assist your brother Muslim, whether he be an oppressor
or an oppressed. 'But how shall we do it when he is an
oppressor?' Muhammad said, 'Assisting an oppressor is
by forbidding and withholding him from oppression.

God is gentle and loves gentleness.

Faith is a restraint against all violence, let no
believer commit violence

What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart
of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the
afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and
to remove the wrongs of the injured.

The best of people is one from whom good accrues to
humanity.

Someone said to the Prophet, 'Pray to God against the
idolators and curse them.' The Prophet replied, 'I
have been sent to show mercy and have not been sent to
curse.

Anyone who kills a sparrow for nothing, it will cry
aloud to God on the day of resurrection, saying, 'O My
Lord! such and such a man killed me for nothing, he
never killed me for any good.'

We were on a journey with the Prophet when we saw a
finch with two young ones. We took away the two young
ones and the mother bird fluttered around. Then the
Prophet came and said, 'Who has distressed her by
taking away her young ones? Return her young ones to
her.' The Prophet also saw the abode of ants which we
had burnt, and said, 'Who has burnt this?' We said,
'We (have done this).' The Prophet said, 'It is not
proper that any one should punish another by fire
unless it be the Lord of fire.'

Deal gently with the people, and be not harsh; cheer
them and condemn them not.

"The warrior is one who battles with his own ego
(nafs) on the path of God."

After a major battle, defending the small community of
Islam against powerful enemies who sought to destroy
it, the Prophet said: "We have returned from the
lesser holy war (jihad) to the greater holy war." When
asked what he meant by the greater war, the Prophet
replied, "Struggle against the ego (nafs)."

"God has mercy upon those who are merciful to others."

"Would you have me tell you about actions that are
better than fasting, prayer, and charity? Bring
goodness and high principles between people."

"The strongest among you is the one who controls his
or her anger."

"Oh God, bring peacefulness among us, bring unity into
our hearts; guide us to equilibrium, take us from
darkness to light."

"Among the servants of Allah, those who are more
useful to the people are also those more loved by the
Divine."

"Being an honorable Muslim means that people are safe
from your actions and words."

"Read the Koran if it keeps you from doing ill, and if
you recite the Koran and are not prevented from
wrongdoing, then you are not truthful in reading the
Koran."

Be kind to people whether they deserve your kindness
or not. If your kindness reaches the deserving, good
for you; if your kindness reaches the undeserving,
take joy in your compassion."

-its third largest city- "and beyond."
As his words were broadcast, Hizbullah fighters attacked an Israeli
warship that had been firing missiles into southern Beirut. Speaking
defiantly in an audiotape on Hizbullah's Al-Manar television less than
an hour after missiles struck his headquarters and home, Nasrallah
addressed Israelis and said they must take responsibility for their
actions.
You wanted an open war, and we are heading for an open war," he said.
"We are ready for it."
"The surprises that I have promised you will start now. Now in the
middle of the sea, facing Beirut, the Israeli warship that has attacked
the infrastructure, people's homes and civilianslook at it burning,"
Nasrallah said.
"It will sink and with it will sink scores of Israeli Zionist
soldiers. This is just the beginning," he warned.
Al-Jazeera reported the Israeli military was searching for four
missing troops from the ship. Israeli officials would not immediately
comment on the Arab broadcaster's report; an army spokesman said earlier
the ship had apparently been struck by a rocket but that the damage was
minor and no one was injured.
Immediately after Nasrallah's message was broadcast, Arab television
showed nighttime video of what it said was the Israeli warship burning.
But the video was unclear.
The audiotape came shortly after Israeli missiles struck Hizbullah
headquarters and Nasrallah's house in southern Beirut.
His words were greeted with heavy celebratory gunfire that rang out
across the Lebanese capital. Sentiments in Egypt were jubilant as
hundreds exchanged mobile text-messages welcoming the speech of "the
Arab hero in the region."
The Hizbullah leader also repeated a threat to hit the Israeli
coastal city of Haifa and other towns farther south. "To Haifa? Believe
me, beyond and beyond Haifa."
"Our homes will not be the only ones to be destroyed, our children
will not be the only ones to die. ... Those days are over, I promise
you.
"You (Israelis) must take responsibility for what your government has
done," he added. "You will soon discover how stupid and foolish your new
government is."
"I promise you a new victory, just as I always have," he said.
Addressing Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan who indirectly criticized
Hizbullah and accused it of "taking miscalculated adventures" Nasrallah
said "we are adventurous. We've been adventurous since 1982 [when Israel
invaded Lebanon]… we will not talk about your past but we say we never
relied on you any day."
"Our adventures" he said, brought nothing but pride and dignity to
our nation in reference to Hizbullah's success in drive out Israel's
occupation forces from South Lebanon in 2000.
More than 60 Lebanese civilians have been killed since Israel began
its attacks on Lebanon yesterday morning. It follows Hizbullah's capture
of Israeli soldiers it says it wants to swap with Arabs held in Israeli
prisons.
Hezbollah has continued rocket attacks on northern Israel - 70 were
fired on Friday alone.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Titled in Beijing

2006-07-17 Thread brother_farrukh
Assalam aliakum,

Chung shao lin – whose meaning is along the lines of a bird who flies
freely high in the skies – he named me, the second honorary title
bestowed upon me in China. It matters little that he is only ten years
of age, or that he happened to be sitting on the table next to mine at
a reportedly famous Chinese Muslim Restaurant in the heart of downtown
Beijing. His joy at visiting England for the first time in August
simply couldn't be contained, and his mother, dining with her sister
and nephew saw no harm in her son approaching a stranger at the
restaurant.

Sitting alongside the memorial at Tiananmen square, I was met flushed
with a collage of emotions. I have visited the square a number of
times previously but only now did I have time to sit and ponder. Were
it not for the immense volume of people visiting the square, flying
kites, playing games, simply having a pleasant time, you would feel an
emptiness particularly given the squares history in its immense size.

To the other end gathered hundreds if not thousands of people, mostly
Chinese tourists but also a few foreigners, the blondes and redheads
standing out amongst the crowd of the diverse ethnic Chinese, and me.
Of course I always tend to be stared upon, not on account of suspicion
or fear, more a look of curiosity. You would imagine that in Beijing a
city familiar with the diverse cultures not to mention the influx of
Arab tourists in the post 9/11 era who refuse to visit the US on
account of being stereotyped having landed in the US, requiring to
prove their innocence, their everyday humanity; you would imagine in
such environment I wouldn't catch so many stares, but I did.

Of course curiosity never bothers me, I too suffer from the odd
excessive glance, can you blame me, beauty is to be found everywhere
here for beyond the rather harsh exterior lays a culture of intrigue
and adventure, all the way from strangers greeting you in the street
down to your taxi rides, my short roué to Beijing airport this morning
being a reflection of such adventure.

Stepping out I informed the doorwoman that I was running late for my
flight. She asked whether I would like a standard of express service,
I chose the latter. In retrospect, perhaps not the most sensible of
choices, but what an experience! Having spent 20 minutes stuck in
Beijing traffic, as soon as we left the city the driver engaged in
nothing short of stealth mode. He adjusted his seat upwards, then
forwards, positioned his bottle of water to his right hand for easy
access, then took his dated VW into the next generation. The series of
motions reminded me of the spaceship in the movie 'flight of the
navigator' which turns from a bubble like shape into this amazing
super dynamic streamlined spaceship. Weaving in and out of traffic,
the driver casually ignored the 80 mph speed limit travelling at
speeds in excess of 160 mph, BMW X5s, MercedesS320s, Audi A6s,
whizzing past every luxury car you could find in Bejing. No doubt, the
driver spent far too much playing racing games on his Nintendo!

This new found freedom, this rebellion of sorts, a near disregard for
regulations, where did it come from? Back at the square there was a
subtle hint of expression. Ethnic Chinese from across the country
visiting the capital city on vacation, having their photos taken in
what no doubt marked a revolution. The effect perhaps less evident in
social terms though clear in terms of business; soon the world will be
theirs, and there is little the existing super powers can do to stop them.

As a foreigner and regular traveller it cannot be such a bad thing. I
met Laura at the Nui Jei mosque in Beijing, she was accompanying her
husband who was on business at a conference. Her sense of style was
remarkably distinct, elegant, fashionable without being excessive, who
else could she be other than a French lady? We decided to spend a
short time together on our way to a shopping street. Her first trip to
China, she was taken back by the rapid growth and the stereotyped
impression much of the world has of China.

Once you get past the typical scams, be it trips to the tea houses,
art students pushing volume printed artwork etc you find a nation of
friendly, open people. A nation where you are not stereotyped by your
skin or faith – certainly, thank God, I have yet to experience a
negative attitude, a country where as a foreigner you are greeted with
respect and more often than not greeted with a smile. True, you have
to look beyond the façade of what I term the `smoking man': middle
aged Chinese men who sit puffing cigarettes looking through you as if
you do not exist and the world just passes by; but its there.

I don't ever imagine a ten year old approaching me in a restaurant to
have a friendly chat in the North America or Europe. It could very
well be the wider exposure to different people which has suppressed
such an urge in these regions. But being approached by the child who
after discovering my name off
