Anger as Egyptian train collision kills dozens

Qalyoub, Egypt - At least 58 people were killed and 143 passengers
injured when two trains collided north of Cairo, turning carriages
into mangled heaps of metal and setting one train ablaze.

Yesterday's crash was the country's deadliest in four years.

"The number of victims has risen to 58 dead and 143 injured, including
four in a serious condition," Health Minister Hatem Al-Gabali said.

Officials had previously put the death toll at 51 and the number of
wounded at 138.

"Sons of bitches! Where were you?" screamed a distraught young man to
the police and rescue services who, witnesses said, were slow to
arrive at the site of the collision.

As rescue workers searched through wreckage for bodies or injured
passengers, a cordon of riot police quickly formed to keep angry
onlookers away.

Families of the deceased would receive $870 (R7 100) in compensation,
officials said.

"An emergency sum of 5 000 Egyptian pounds will go to the family of
each deceased," said Minister of Social Security Ali Moselhi.

A security source said the smash happened after one train, heading for
Cairo from Mansura, 130km north of the capital, rammed into another on
the same track, coming from Benha.

"I was in the train from Benha, which had stopped for five minutes.
Suddenly we felt something like an earthquake. We jumped out the
windows and we saw fire at the back of the train," said Mamduh Amer, a
29-year-old policeman.

A resident in a nearby building, Suad Abdallah, said: "I had just
woken up at 7am, when I heard a dreadful noise. I ran to the balcony
and saw smoke and bodies hanging from the train."

Her sons, like many residents near the tracks, jumped low walls
separating houses from the railway, and began removing corpses and
helping the wounded.

"We called the fire service, but they didn't believe us," said Shaima
Samir (23), her voice almost drowned out by the wail of ambulance sirens.

Earlier, the security source said rescue workers had extricated at
least 43 bodies from the twisted remains of the two carriages as
cranes were brought in to help lift the wreckage.

Preliminary findings of a police investigation into the cause of the
crash suggested the train coming from Mansura ignored a light and
rammed the back of the other train.

Ambulances rushed the injured to Cairo and other hospitals in this
southern region of the Nile Delta.

Egypt has a history of train crashes. The deadliest rail disaster
occurred on February 20 2002 when a passenger using a stove set ablaze
a train heading to the south. At least 361 people died.

Since February this year there have been three major train crashes in
Egypt. In May, 45 people were injured when a cargo train slammed into
a passenger train near the village of Alshat in the northern Egyptian
governate of Al-Sharqiya.

Three months earlier, 20 people were injured when two trains
travelling in the same direction collided near Alexandria. The second,
faster train, ran into the back of the first when the driver failed to
see it because of poor visibility.

Most crashes have been blamed on negligence and poor maintenance.

Forty-one people were killed in a crash near Alexandria in 1998, 30
perished in another accident between the southern cities of Luxor and
Aswan in 1997, and 75 died in a disaster south of Cairo in 1995.

Transport has a reputation for being dangerous in Egypt, the most
populous country in the Middle East.

About 6 000 people die in road accidents each year.

About 1 000 people died in February when an Egyptian ferry sank in the
Red Sea, in one of the worst maritime disasters in recent history.

80 killed as trains crash in Egypt

QALYOUB (Egypt), Aug 21: A collision between two trains killed 80
people and injured 131 on Monday in a Nile Delta town north of Cairo,
a security source said, in Egypt's worst rail disaster since 2002.

About 25 ambulances rushed to the crash site, along with hundreds of
bystanders and relatives anxious for news of passengers who might have
been killed or injured, a witness said, adding that damage to the
trains was extensive.

The accident took place at about 7.30am near the town of Qalyoub,
about 20 km north of Cairo, official sources told the state news
agency MENA. They said one of the drivers had apparently ignored
traffic signals.

A photographer at the scene said one of the trains had derailed and

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Dealing with the Media Machine* from islamonline.net

Dear members,

Assalamu Alaikun. Please read this important article on
media. In the South Africa context, the article says about how to confront media
distortion. It also says how media review network can be established in other
countries/ places.

  Dealing with the Media Machine*

By Dalia Yusuf**
Translated
by Abdelazim R. Abdelazim

The morning newspaper you browse daily may contain
what falls in line or clashes with your values, mindset, and, sometimes,
some of the facts you know. The content may be explicit (as in a
point-of-view or analytical article) or implicit (as in an advertisement
or photo caption). The radio or TV program you listen to may transmit
similar content. The question is: Have you ever thought of interacting
with this material so as to influence the performance of the different
  media channels?
This is accomplished by many projects. One of these is
the Media Review Network (MRN) endeavor, which I got acquainted with in
South Africa. The MRN project monitors the media, as required by current
events, and conducts other activities that could make the Muslim community
in South Africa more influential, something that is needed more than
  ever.
  Stepping into the
  Experience
It was an office in a small building in Pretoria,
South Africa. Once I stepped in, my attention was captured by the huge
amount of posters displaying caricatures, articles, and comments, most of
which tackle the Palestinian issue, the sanctions (now occupation) imposed
on Iraq, the status quo of Muslims in South Africa, and many other issues
that involve international justice. I also bumped into an enormous
collection of cassette and video tapes of TV interviews and public
conferences, a number of computers, and a cupboard full of several books
on topics ranging from the experiences of national liberation to
comparative religious studies. Although the staff consists of a small
number of people, their faces are friendly and their voices are
  enthusiastic.
This is the office of the Media Review
  Network. I was introduced
to the organization with the following words:

There are more than 1 million Muslims living in
South Africa. The mainstream media have always defined who we are and
what we represent for the general South–African public. Our views and
opinions, our policy positions and strategic interests have either
been ignored or deliberately distorted. The Media Review Network,
through a loose informal group of individuals and in association with
some research centers, considered it imperative in the rapidly
changing socio-political landscape of the new South Africa, to ensure
that the dynamism of Islam is not lost in the maze of perverse
innuendo. As Muslims, we need to have our opinions and insights heard
on a daily basis as a matter of routine, rather than as an exception.
The aspiration of the Media Review Network is to dispel the myths and
stereotypes about Islam and Muslims and to foster bridges of
understanding. Muslim perspectives on issues impacting on South
Africans are a prerequisite to a better understanding and appreciation
  of Islam.
The challenge that Muslims face in South Africa is
that they are a minority, one which had contributed in the struggle for
national liberation and, accordingly, has won a respected position, but
whose passive dependence on how they are portrayed by the media might lead
them to be misunderstood and marginalized. While Muslims have successfully
established a solid infrastructure of organizations, mosques, and schools,
there has remained the need to face the challenges that the complex media
  system poses.
  More Objectives
“Yes. Our aim is to monitor, analyze, and sometimes
refute the media distortions about Islam and Muslims. This Media Review,
which the Network is named after, may be in the form of periodic reviews,
complaints and/or messages sent directly to the media organizations,
newspapers, and TV and radio stations in South Africa.”
So replied Sayd Iqbal Gazit, head of the MRN, when I
asked him about the nature of the reports and comments the network
  issues.
These are the circumstances and motives behind the
establishment of the Media Review Network. Its team, therefore, focusing
  on the coverage and othe

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] International efforts made to bring Sunni and Shia Iraqi brothers for civil war

2006-08-24 Thread Labbayk YaMahdi

Baghdad killings mar pilgrimage Tens of thousands are making the annual pilgrimage Gunmen have opened fire on Shia Muslim pilgrims in Baghdad, killing at least 20 and injuring 300, officials say. Tens of thousands of Shias are making the annual pilgrimage to the tomb of revered Imam Musa Kadhim in the Kadhimiya neighbourhood.
Officials said the gunmen were thought to be Sunni extremists. Shia militiamen are guarding some of the pilgrims. At the pilgrimage last year almost 1,000 people died in a stampede sparked by rumours of suicide bombers. Iraq's health ministry told the BBC the deaths occurred in incidents in different parts of Baghdad on Sunday. The Iraqi prime minister earlier warned that those using mosques to provoke sectarian violence would be prosecuted. 'Under control' Security had been heightened and a ban on cars introduced to try to prevent sectarian violence. Police said there were protected corridors for pilgrims but the sheer weight of numbers led some to try short cuts, where they were ambushed by snipers.
Militiamen protected some of the pilgrims in Baghdad Defence Minister General Abdul Qader Jassim told Reuters news agency 30 suspected militants were arrested and 14 police injured. Qassem al-Mussawi, head of joint operations at the prime minister's office, said there had been some shooting but the situation was "under control". Armed Shias of the Mehdi Army militia could be seen protecting some of the route. Some
Sunni leaders accused Shias of provoking the attacks and said security officials allowed militiamen to attack Sunni homes. "We demand that the government stand up to these saboteurs," said a statement from the Sunni Islamic Party. The numbers at the pilgrimage remained huge despite the threat of attacks. Men, women and children, many in traditional Shia black, carried Korans and colourful flags to the imam's tomb. Some beat their chests in a traditional show of grief. Worshippers inside the mausoleum kissed the tomb of the imam to remember his martyrdom in the 8th Century. One pilgrim, Kareem Risan, who had walked from the southern city of Amara, told AFP news agency: "It took us seven days. We risked our lives and braved all possible danger to reach here." The BBC's Mike
Wooldridge, in Baghdad, says the challenge now is protecting so many thousands of people on their way home. Last year mortars were fired at the mosque housing the tomb and rumours spread of possible suicide bombers. In the ensuing stampede, almost 1,000 pilgrims died - the highest death toll on a single day since the 2003 war that toppled Saddam Hussein.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Expensive psychotropic drugs

2006-08-24 Thread COMMUNITY AWARENESS

MURAD BANA <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

  Expensive psychotropic drugs
Sale thriving at the cost of patients' wellbeing

By Shahina Maqbool

ISLAMABAD: The absence of effective regulations governing the introduction,
sale and consumption of expensive drugs for the treatment of mental disorders,
coupled with lack of qualified psychiatrists and the existence of an unholy
alliance between drug manufacturing companies and doctors, have combined to
increase the trauma of people suffering from psychiatric and mental disorders
in Pakistan -- a country where mental health services are almost nonexistent,
and where available, are limited either to the psychiatry departments of
teaching hospitals or private-run clinics.

A consumer survey released by TheNetwork for Consumer Protection here Friday
reveals that the sale of psychotropic drugs (allopathic only) in Pakistan is
touching an annual figure of Rs3 billion. For instance, during the year July
2003-June 2004, the sales stood at Rs2.76 billion (US $46.77 million). Of
these, antidepressants accounted for sales worth Rs821.17 million (US $13.4
million), showing an increase of 23% from the previous year; tranquillisers and
hypnotics worth Rs1.36 billion (US $23.18 million), showing an increase of 18%
and 137% respectively, from the previous year; and antipsychotics worth
Rs377.02 million (US $6.39 million). The sale of 'nootropics' (so-called brain
stimulants) was worth Rs187.6 million (US $3.18 million). To put the above
figures in context, the Gross Domestic Product of Pakistan is approximately US
$61.6 billion whereas the per capita income is US $440.

Pakistan has only 150-200 qualified psychiatrists -- an alarming ratio of one
psychiatrist to a population of one million. The majority of the psychiatrists
is urban-based, whereas 70% of the population is rural-based. Except in a few
instances, psychiatry is neither taught nor examined at undergraduate level,
leaving most practicing physicians with poor diagnostic and management skills.

In view of the acute shortage of psychiatrists, most people end up consulting
general practitioners for the treatment of mental and psychiatric disorders.
Patients who cannot afford doctors' fees or purchase expensive drugs, which are
sold even without prescriptions, have to rely on quacks.

According to studies, 25-66% women and 10-40% men in Pakistan suffer from
common mental disorders. There are an estimated 3 million drug addicts. Suicide
rates have dramatically increased from a few hundred to more than 3000
annually. Serious mental illnesses account for another 1-3% of the population.
Health spending is a pitiable 1% of the government's annual budget and mental
health does not have a separate budget. There is no health insurance and a
poorly funded public health service is accessed by only the poorest. All
healthcare costs are borne by patients themselves.

Coming to the murky relationship between drug manufacturers and doctors, the
survey reveals that a multinational pharmaceutical company recently launched a
drug for dementia in Pakistan and flew about 70 Pakistani doctors to Bangkok
for a three-night all-expenses-paid trip. Pakistani doctors were part of a
larger group that also included doctors from other countries. A conservative
estimate of costs for the Pakistani doctors alone comes to about Rs. 7 million
(US$ 120,000). The drug in question costs Rs. 320 per recommended daily
maintenance dose - prohibitively expensive for the vast majority.

The survey quotes an article by Dr. Murad Musa Khan, Professor of Psychiatry at
the Aga Khan University, Karachi. "With little or no regulation of medical
practice or drug prescribing and dispensing, companies and physicians are free
to act as they deem fit. Malpractice litigation against doctors is unheard of.
Pharmaceutical companies have therefore targeted psychiatrists aggressively.
The traffic is bidirectional - psychiatrists are as demanding of favours as
companies are of providing them," he writes.

According to Dr. Murad, some of the inducements on offer include sponsoring
attendance at conferences, all-expenses-paid trips for self and spouse for a
drug launch abroad, free drug samples and expensive gifts (watches, air
conditioners, briefcases, laptops, etc). Other methods include funding a
physician's family wedding, holidays and other events. "One of the latest
incentives is for the pharmaceutical company to provide the physician with a
down payment for a new car. All the physician has to do in return is write 200
prescriptions for the company's expensive drug," he writes.

Can integrity be regained by psychiatrists in Pakistan? Dr. Murad believes they
can, provided that there is a will. "No matter what the circumstances, the
interest of the patient should remain paramount. Anything that compromises this
must be identified and eliminated. This includes accepting any kind of

Egypt: Conference Calls For Effective Plan To Free
  Aqsa

The Sharia Committee affiliated to the  Egyptian
Lawyers’ Union on Saturday August 19,2006, organized a rally under the
slogan ( Day for Aqsa ). The rally was attended by MB Chairman Mohamed
Mahdi Akef, Former Prime Minister Dr. Aziz Sedqi, who is also the general
coordinator of the National Front for Change, Islamic History Professor
Dr. Gamal Abdul Hadi, Secretary General MB Parliamentary Block Dr.Mohamed
el Beleaguer, and lawyer Hazem Abu Ismael. The rally was inaugurated with
a word by Secretary General of Lawyers’ Union Saif el Islam Hassan el
Banna, in which he affirmed that the Palestinian cause is the Muslim
Brotherhood’s chief concern and that the popular resistacne will continue
to be the only way to liberate Palestine. In his word, MB Chairman Mohamed
Mahdi Akef briefly reviewed the history of the Palestinian cause
throughout fifty years and its position in the Muslim Brotherhood Call,
condemning Arab rulers for their failure to support it. Akef hailed the
heroic stance of the Arab and Islamic people in general and the
Palestinian people in particular since the occupation of Arab land. The MB
Chairman called on the Arab and Muslim people to expel the Americans-
turned Zionists from the Arab land, lamenting the absence of any role by
the Arab rulers or the international organizations throughout fifty years,
seeing the latter as ones categorically biased with Israel. “We wish the
Arab rulers announced even a lip service support to the Palestinians”, he
said. He condemned the call for reconstructing Lebanon, pointing out that
it is the perpetrators of this destruction that must reconstruct what they
devastated. The MB Chairman called for drawing up a practical plan to
expel what he dubbed as the Zionist gangs from the land of Palestine,
expounding that “ those who co exist with us are welcome, but those who
live in our land as occupiers will see  nothing but resistance “. He
laid emphasis that Muslim Brotherhood will not forsake the Palestinian
people until their land is liberated. Former Egyptian Prime Minister
Dr. Aziz Sedki hailed Hizbullah Chairman Hassan Nasrullah, saying that he
inflicted a crushing defeat on Israel. He attached great importance to
strong faith as the only way to victory. He also called on the Arab rulers
to draw up a well studied plan for liberating the usurped Arab land
including Palestine; he lashed out at Camp David and called on Arab rulers
to renounce it.  Dr. Sedqi lamented the corruption which has plagued
Egypt including embezzlement of public funds and smuggling them abroad,
calling for formatting of the state agencies and purging Egypt of the
corrupts. The rally organizers displayed a videophone message
dispatched by Chairman of Hamas Politburo Khaled Meshal in which he
affirmed that resistance is a legitimate right enshrined in all
international constitutions and laws’, adding that resistacne has become a
strategic option to fill the gap of the Arab armies and readjust the
balance of power in the region. Meshal heralded that crushing the “Zionist
entity “ used to be something unbelievable but now it has become a reality
in the light of the brave resistance which proved that defeating Israel is
possible even if it possesses mass destruction weapons. Meshal slammed the
reality of the Arab and Muslim nation at the official level, while hailing
the popular reaction to the Arab causes in general and the Palestinian
cause in particular. He called on the Arab and Muslim to encounter the
American and “Zionist” globalization by globalizing resistance. While
the Muslim Brotherhood Chairman gave a brief revision of the Palestinian
cause, Islamic History Professor Dr.Gamal Abdul Hadi( MB leader) reviewed
it in detail since it was occupied in 1918 and the role of the British
government and the then League of Nations and the Security Council in
creating the “ Zionist entity “ in the heart of Palestine. He warned that
the current campaign will not stop at Palestine or Lebanon or Iraq but
rather it is “a Crusade Jewish led by the Zionist entity on Palestine land
and backed by the US and all European states, using Arab rulers as a means
to achieve their ultimate goals”. He added that the international
organizations aim to divide the Muslim world into factious cantons, with
Israel as being the only actual and active power in the region. He alerted

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Did Prophet[sallalahu alaihi wa sallam] Saw Allah?

In The Name Of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatuallahi wa barakatuhu  Did Prophet[salla lahu alaihi wa
sallam] Saw Allah?42:51 It is not given to any human being that Allâh should speak to him unless (it be) by Inspiration, or from behind a veil, or (that) He sends a Messenger to reveal what He wills by His Leave. Verily, He is Most High, Most Wise . *Note: No one can see Allah before judgement day. The Greatest Lie Against Allah. The Book of Faith (Kitab Al-Iman) Muslim :: Book 1 : Hadith 337
It is narrated on the authority of Masruq that he said: I was resting at (the house of) 'A'isha that she said: O Abu 'A'isha (kunya of Masruq), there are three things, and he who affirmed even one of them fabricated the greatest lie against Allah. I asked that they were. She said: He who presumed that Muhammad (may peace be upon him) saw his Lord (with his ocular vision) fabricated the greatest lie against Allah. I was reclining but then sat up and said: Mother of the Faithful, wait a bit and do not be in a haste. Has not Allah
(Mighty and Majestic) said:" And truly he saw him on the clear horizon" (al-Qur'an, lxxxi. 23) and" he saw Him in another descent" (al-Qur'an, . 13)? She said: I am the first of this Ummah who asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) about it, and he said: Verily he is Gabriel. I have never seen him in his original form in which he was created except on those two occasions (to which these verses refer) ; I saw him descending from the heaven and filling (the space) from the sky to the earth with the greatness of his bodily structure. She said: Have you not heard Allah saying." Eyes comprehend Him not, but He comprehends (all) vision. and He is Subtle, and All-Aware" (al-Qur'an, v. 104)? (She, i. e. 'A'isha, further said): Have you not heard that, verily, Allah says:" And it is not vouchsafed to a human being that Allah should speak unto him otherwise than by revelation, or from behind a veil, or that He sendeth a messenger (angel), so that he revealth
whatsoever He wills. Verily He is Exalted. Wise" (al. Qur'an, xii. 51) She said: He who presumes that the Messengerof Allah (may peace be upon him) concealed anything, from the Book, of Allah fabricates the greatest lie against Allah. Allah says:" O Messenger! deliver that which has been revealed to thee from thy Lord, and if thou do (it) not, thou hast not delivered His message" (al-Qur'an, v. 67). She said: He who presumes that he would inform about what was going to happen tomorrow fabricates the greatest lie against Allah. And Allah says" Say thou (Muhammad): None in the heavens and the earth knoweth the unseen save Allah" (al-Qur'an, xxvii 65). Imam Bukhari in his Kitab at Tawhid, Chapter XXXVII. His words, "And Allah spoke directly to Musa." (4:164) Hadith # 7079 a Marfu Hadith .Excerpts.. the Lord of Might approached
and descended until he was the distance of two bow spans from him or nearer. "Part of what Allah revealed to him was 'Fifty prayers for your community every day and night.' Then he descended until he met Musa who stopped him and said, 'Muhammad, what did your Lord contract with you?' He answered, 'He contracted with me fifty prayers every day and night.' He said, 'Your community will not be able to do that. Go back and ask your Lord to lighten it for you and for them.' The Prophet * turned to Jibril as if he wished to consult him about that and Jibril indicated to him, "Yes, if you wish.' So he ascended to the Compeller and said while he was in his place, 'O Lord, lighten it for us. My community will not be able to do this!'*Note:Prophet felt closeness to Allah in his heart, also Allah subhanawatala was there that is why Prophet Muhammad salla lahu alaihi wa sallam was taken to miraj without adding any anthromorphism in any way wht so ever,Allah is not restricted to place, and Allah is not omnipresent. The Holy Prophet saw Allah with, his heart. The Book of Faith (Kitab Al-Iman) Muslim :: Book 1 : Hadith 334 It is narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that he (the Holy
Prophet) saw (Allah) with, his heart. *Note:Ibn Abbas said- he saw with his heart,it means he felf his nearness in his heart. He is a Light;. how could I see Him? The Book of Faith (Kitab Al-Iman) Muslim :: Book 1 : Hadith 341 It is narrated on the authority of Abu Dharr: I asked the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him): Did you see thy Lord? He said: He is a Light;. how could I see Him?
His Veil Is The Light   The Book of Faith (Kitab Al-Iman)    Muslim :: Book 1 : Hadith 343 Abu Musa reported: The Messenger ofallah (may peace be upon him) was standing amongst us and he told us five things. He said: Verily the Exalted and Mighty God

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] SAUM - FASTING PART 1

2006-08-24 Thread Saba Khan
SAUM - FASTING

In the Hadith, great rewards have been mentioned for
fasting. The
fasting person has a very high status in the sight of
Allâh Ta'âla.
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "The
person who fasts
in the month of Ramadhân solely for the pleasure of
Allâh Ta'âla and
for gaining His reward, all his past minor sins will
be forgiven."
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "The
smell which
emanates from the mouth of a fasting person is more
beloved in the
sight of Allâh Ta'âla than the fragrance of musk." On
the day of
judgement, one would receive great rewards for
fasting.

It is related in a Hadith that a table below the Arsh
of Allâh
Ta'âla will be laid for the fasting persons on the day
of judgement.
They will sit at this table and partake of the food
while all the
other people will still be busy giving their account
of deeds. On
seeing them, they will say: "How is it that these
people are eating
and drinking while we are still occupied in giving an
account of our
deeds?" It will be said to them that they used to fast
while you
abstained from fasting. This fasting is also a great
pillar of
Islam. The person who does not fast in the month of
Ramadhân commits
a major sin, and his Deen shall become weak.

Fasting in the month of Ramadhân is fard on every
Muslim who is not
a lunatic nor an immature person (minor). As long as
there is no
valid excuse, it is not permissible to abstain from
fasting. If a
person vows to fast, fasting becomes fard on him on
account of this
vow. The qada and kaffarah fasts are also fard. Apart
from this, all
other fasts are nafl - if a person keeps them he will
be rewarded,
and if he does not do so, there will be no sin on him.
However, the
fasts of eid ul-fitr, eid ul-ad'hâ, and the three days
following eid
ul-ad'hâ are all harâm.

Once the time of fajr salâh approaches (i.e. dawn)
until the time of
sunset, a person should make the intention of fasting
and abstain
from all food, drink, and sexual intercourse. This is
known as
fasting in the Shariah.

It is not necessary to make a verbal intention.
Instead, once a
person has this in his heart that today he is fasting
and he does
not eat or drink anything, nor does he indulge in
sexual
intercourse - his fast will be valid. If a person
makes a verbal
intention by saying: "O Allâh! I will fast for Your
pleasure
tomorrow", or he says the following words in Arabic:

even then there is no harm in this.

A person did not eat nor drink anything the entire day
and remained
hungry and thirsty from morning till evening. However,
in his heart
he did not have the intention of fasting but merely
abstained from
food due to a lack of hunger, or, for some reason or
the other he
did not get the opportunity of eating anything - in
such a case his
fast will not be valid. Had he made the intention of
fasting in his
heart, his fast would have become valid.

According to the Shari'ah, the time of fasting
commences from subah
sâdiq. Therefore, as long as the subah sâdiq time does
not expire,
eating, drinking, etc. is permissible. Some women wake
up early and
after having a meal, they make the intention of
fasting and sleep
away thinking that once the intention is made, eating
and drinking
is not permissible. This is a gross error. As long as
the subah
sâdiq time does not expire, it is permissible to eat
and drink. This
is irrespective of whether the intention of fasting
has been made or
not.
